how did people watch movies at home before VHS? was reel to reel tape and a projectors common? or did they just like watch a movie once in a theater and that was it?
You watched it in the theater and hoped to catch it on TV someday.
Betamax
Oldest I can remember was an old VCR from like the early 80s
This thing was as big as a computer tower and all I did was play tapes

>Chronicles did poorly at the box office, grossing only $55 million of its rumored $150 mil budget. After the critical and financial failure, the studio wouldn't agree to a sequel. Diesel was dedicated to making one happen. He did everything from agreeing to make a cameo in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in exchange for the rights to Riddick, all the way to mortgaging his own house. Yet even all that wasn't enough to let them create another sprawling epic like their imagined Necroverse movie. As a way of trying to breathe life into the franchise, they created a scaled-down, cheaper movie with elements closer to the first movie.
Alexa Davalos was perfect in this movie, in Man in the High Castle she has a haggard and wrinkly face. Why weren't there more movies of her in her prime? Gives me another reason to watch Angel
Also expectations for Furia?

Only WHEN
>>81810027
Great film series. Pitch Black is absolute my favorite movie. I've seen it like 30 times. No other film comes even close. Maybe 8 times for T2.
and Riddick made almost as much money as chronicles while costing a third.
Is he, dare I say it, our guy?
Absolutely based

will the alt-right ever recover from this?
A pseudo intellectual who makes untenable politically charged scientific claims?
Definitely.
>The Murdochs have decided Bill O’Reilly’s 21-year run at Fox News will come to an end. According to sources briefed on the discussions, network executives are preparing to announce O’Reilly’s departure before he returns from an Italian vacation on April 24. Now the big questions are how the exit will look and who will replace him.
>Wednesday morning, according to sources, executives are holding emergency meetings to discuss how they can sever the relationship with the country’s highest-rated cable-news host without causing collateral damage to the network. The board of Fox News’ parent company, 21st Century Fox, is scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss the matter.
>Sources briefed on the discussions say O’Reilly’s exit negotiations are moving quickly. Right now, a key issue on the table is whether he would be allowed to say good-bye to his audience, perhaps the most loyal in all of cable (O’Reilly’s ratings have ticked up during the sexual-harassment allegations). Fox executives are leaning against allowing him to have a sign-off, sources say. The other main issue on the table is money. O’Reilly recently signed a new multiyear contract worth more than $20 million per year. When Roger Ailes left Fox News last summer, the Murdochs paid out $40 million, the remainder of his contract.
>According to sources, Fox News wants the transition to be seamless. Executives are currently debating possible replacement hosts. Names that have been discussed include Eric Bolling, Dana Perino, and Tucker Carlson, who would move from his successful 9 p.m. slot and create a need for a new host at that time. One source said Sean Hannity is happy at 10 p.m. and would not want to move.
>The Murdochs’ decision to dump O’Reilly shocked many Fox News staffers I’ve spoken to in recent days. Late last week, the feeling inside the company was that Rupert Murdoch would prevail over his son James, who lobbied to jettison the embattled host. It’s still unclear exactly how the tide turned. According to one source, Lachlan Murdoch’s wife helped convince her husband that O’Reilly needed to go, which moved Lachlan into James’s corner. The source added that senior executives at other divisions within the Murdoch empire have complained that if O’Reilly’s allegations had happened to anyone else at their companies, that person would be gone already.

>Wiseau, confused about the differences between 35 mm film and high-definition video, decided to shoot the entire film in both formats simultaneously, using a custom-built apparatus that housed both cameras side-by-side and required two crews to operate. Explaining his decision to shoot the film in this way, Wiseau said that he wanted to be able to say that he was the first director to film an entire movie simultaneously in two formats

Honestly, that footage could be really useful for people who want to recreate the film look with digital effects.
Does this show actually get good? I've just finished S1 and it was fine, nothing too great. I thought it was rather slow and too much sex. Liked the dark comedy bits though. Sould I continue?
no. the first season is as good as it gets. season 2 is alright, but season 3 and 4 are quite boring and you will probably get completely sick of ruth and claire by season 3.
it is worth watching just to get to the finale. the finale is really good and kind of tricks you into thinking that watching the show was worth it (it's not).
>>81810198
thanks. I really had high hopes for this show, with people putting it side by side with the wire and TD. What a shame
>>81810248
if you don't have anything else to watch and you want something to kill time, go for it. just don't expect it to get much better than the first season. the worst thing about the show is that all the dark morbid humor in the first season gets completely tossed by season 3 and it goes full melodrama.

What the fuck is so great about this show? Why is it so popular?
>>81809341
it is fun.
And like Mr. Robot and The Big Bang Theory, people enjoy nerd culture.
it is fun and the way the characters talk seems like a casual conversation other than a script so it seems it is 10 minutes long when it is 20
