Just rewatched Alien and am blown away once again. The pacing and atmosphere are top-notch, all the set pieces are great, the acting is solid, the horror/gore elements really well done.
What are the chances Alien: Covenant will be half as good as this classic?

Actually, it's the first time I sat through the whole movie, as a kid it terrified me, but now I've kind of come over that stuff, but I gotta say, this was certainly one of the better horror movies I've seen.

the general strategy is something with a veneer of intellectuallity, something that keeps them entertained but does not excessively bore or confuse them. Humor should be kept non-absurdist because most will not understand it.
Generally, if it's too pretentious/cerebral, they will be not enjoy it.
On the other hand, if it's too silly they might think you're juvenile or even see your pick as an insult to their intelligence.
It all depends on the woman though. When I've invited women over for movies, I know their personality and tastes well enough to pick something we can enjoy. The ironic hipster-ish women I seem to be attracted to really enjoy cheesy B-movie material, things like Hobo With a Shotgun and Shin Godzilla. No idea what normies like.

Where did all the hate come from? This show is alright. I'd place it above Luke Cage and below Daredevil.

The only negatives for me personally is the fact that Finn could have bulked up a bit for the role, and the weird mishmash of Chinese and Japanese culture(especially among The Hand).
