Did anyone else think this movie is fucking shit?
>0 stakes
>John is literally a Mary Sue
>Falls for the dumbest of action movie tropes
>Despite the good fight choreography, the fights still remain stupid and tedious and John never feels in danger
I literally stopped watching this once the main villain (who's the most generic and uninspired action movie villain of all time), knocked John unconscious and chose not to kill him, despite the fact he know's John is some sort of superman.

I agree, its fucking awful. The action genre is pretty much dead and is nothing more than a mindless jerk off of "muh choreography". I miss when action movies actually had me on the edge of my seat or had some sense of stakes
this sounds like a cop-out reply, but honestly, that's the way it's supposed to be. it's a movie purely about fight choreography and tightly directed action with minimal characterization enabled by a reliance on classic action movie tropes. it might not be your thing, but i don't think that makes the movie bad. it executed what seemed to be the vision of the creators very well.
I got the sense that it was a passion project which the creators didn't anticipate gaining such a huge cult following. Almost like the short films that Neil Blomkamp has been putting out on youtube recently. I thought the sequel was a major improvement as well.
Is it just me?
Or has this summer/year been incredibly kind when it's come to movies.
This year I've gotten LOGAN, GUARDIANS 2, WONDER WOMAN, THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, BABY DRIVER, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES...
... and I've still got STAR WARS, THOR RAGNAROK, DUNKIRK, THE DISASTER ARTIST, BLADE RUNNER, and VALERIAN. And (the big question mark) JUSTICE LEAGUE. And there's others if I think harder.
Don't get me wrong.
There's been some garbage (TRANSFORMERS, 50 SHADES, PIRATES, ALIEN COVENANT).
But I'm pretty impressed with a lot of the stuff that's come out this year. And I haven't even gotten to KONG SKULL ISLAND or JOHN WICK 2 yet -- both of which are on my "to see" list.
I'm not sure I've had this much summer movie fun since 1993 -- when I saw Jurassic Park seven times, among a slew of other things. I don't know why, but it seemed like most things I saw that summer were particularly awesome. Except for TURTLES 3. We don't talk about that.
Anyway... sorry.
Just a random observation.

Can it work? Can we actually make a good drama that "makes you think" without it turning it into a black and white liberal circle jerk? Its a sad day when the freaking Japanese could make an anime thats objective show with this concept then American writers. But I'm tired of being cynical and want to have faith in good writing again. I the draw of pandering is too strong with the elite. I honestly think this idea should be put on hold until race relations get better social justice crap disipates,

Considering Dabid and Dabid's ancestors were probably slave merchants, I have high hopes. It's their heritage.

You can't make this property a liberal circlejerk, because of the very definition of its premise
Martin Scorsese likes to make movies based on true events (or a book or both), with a story told with a voice over, with pop music playing in the background etc.
Some examples are:
Goodfellas (1990)
Cassino (1995)
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
What are some examples of similar kino, not necessarily Scorsese?
A Bronx Tale (1993)

DILLANE?
Is the west wing worth watching? How does it hold up today?
>And the icecream you serve it frozen?
"yes chef"
>Fuck me
>Having an affair on your spouse
>Failing to have a child
>Killing a friends pet
This shit was bad. Who would cheat on Robin? Why is Fred Savage gay? The only funny white rich people show is Casual on Hulu.
Only three people in that image are white if you're counting the mixed Italian/Syrian.
