Why the fuck did Gandalf pretend to be Saruman?
>>85657775
He didn't. He was simply Gandalf the White

Just imagine seeing this trailer in 1980 in a cinema without knowing anything about it.

Stop being ironic
it's impossible to be completely sincere your entire life.
>>85657635
it didn't used to be, and I think that's what DFW was sort of lamenting. but he also seemed to think that a new sincerity would be coming back once the contemporary obsession with postmodernism subsided
it's difficult for unmolested sincerity to exist in the world we live in today because we live in the hyperreal. everything; all information, all signs and symbols, are so laden with the meta and a hyperawareness of subjectivity that people struggle to be sincere since, to many, it feels as if what is "real" is accelerating to the point of vanishing
I'm gonna go back to /his/ now
Stop cross posting.

I don't think I've ever actively wished for a film to fail as much as this shit.

I hope it does well because of people like you. This proactive antagonism and opposition to a benign movie is foreign to me. It is very illogical.

The Patrician's Choice
How come when I was growing up I enjoyed shows with a predominately african american cast without thinking about the fact that it was a "black show," but now with stuff like Black Panther and Dear White People I can't stand it. Why is the current media so hell bent on considering these shows as a political and race empowering movement. Why can't they just be shows rewarded of their own merit?
And why weren't all the african american shows I grew up with a considered cornerstone in this progressive agenda? Didn't we all grow up watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air, My Wife and Kids, Smart Guy, The Bernie Mac Show, Everybody Hates Chris, That's So Raven, The PJ's, Cory in the House, Sister, Sister, Family Matters, What's Happening, and Different strokes?
>Ooh wee I rememba when me and my aunt ckackapapi would chomp down on that sasafrasi we would chompachompchomp chew dat up real goodly
It's always been like this, you just don't notice it when you're a kid and/or you are being blinded by nostalgia. Nothing has changed since the 80s.
Back then black entertainment was made for black people. Now it's made for white liberals.
gimme some gud documentary to watch

The Untold History of the USA
According to the AV Club reviews of each episode, this is the single worst one. I've always found it really entertaining, do I have shit taste or does VanDerWerff just have his head up his ass?
>>85657256
It was a weird episode. Tonally all over the place. Even the ending felt off. I don't know if I would consider it the worst but it's a stand out for mostly negative reasons.
it was a filler episode that didn't advance the plot in any way. I don't think any of the subplots were advanced in this episode, were they?
I have only once ever wept tears during a movie and that one time was at the end of this film. The conclusion where Batman takes the fall for Dent's rampage after everything that had happened was just both beautiful and epic in so many ways.
I'm not an avid movie watcher, but for me, this is the best movie I've ever seen. Looking at recent superhero films, it will probably take a while before some other film tops this one. I have zero faith for today's DC or Marvel to make anything close to the quality of The Dark Knight. I think that this film will be analyzed centuries later when people are researching the culture of the 21st century's West.

The Dark Knight continues Batman Begins' tradition of drawing primarily and heavily from the graphic novels, one shots and limited series' of the late 1980's and 1990's, but this time the writers also went all the way back to the roots, to the earliest issues of the Batman comic book. In addition to the same sources Batman Begins drew, some of the cited influences for The Dark Knight are the first two issues of Batman and The Killing Joke.

Anything with Superman in it is utterly boring for me. Superman is the worst kind of superhero: unrelateble, invincible and just generic in so many ways. Nolan's Batman is thankfully the exact opposite of those features.
>worst actor in all of the series
>cringy, poor man's version of his counterpart in the books
