Im in Frederick, Maryland for training purposes for 3 weeks. Ive already been to Gettysburg and Baltimore. Gettysburg was not worth it in my opinion and Baltimore's inner harbor was pretty cool. The rest of Baltimore save south of the innerharbor was worse than what The Wire depicted.
Im going to DC this weekend for the first time. Is there anything thing to see besides the plaza what do the locals do? i might do some thrift shopping too because i running out of clothes?

Baltimore is a pretty good Aquarium, I liked it and I'm to be honest I usually hate shit like that.
As a Midwestern man I found that one neighborhood with everything sort of smushed together with old fashioned looking buildings to be charming and very East-coasty, wish I could remember what it was called.
West 'Ballimer' looked Liberian af.

You can't go wrong with Georgetown nigga, hip relaxed place. Alexandria is pretty cool too.
If you like clubbing go to DuPont circle Saturday night.
I'll be around these days in case you have more specific questions.
I'm from baltimore. Trust me when I say get as far away from baltimore as possible. It's time in your life you'll never get back
Go Dundalk bro

Is Ellicott City a good suburb to commute to Baltimore?

Yes, especially if you are Korean

/k/ here randomly, Maryland native.
Head down I-270 and park at the Shady Grove Metrorail station. Load up a SmarTrip card and ride the rails. Sticking to places served by Metro will largely keep you out of injun country.
Good Metro stations to stop and wander around:
* Union Station
* Gallery Place/Chinatown
* Smithsonian
* Rosslyn (cross the Key Bridge to Georgetown)
* Alexandria (shuttles to Old Town)
* Federal Triangle
* Metro Center (closest to White House)
* Arlington Cemetary
Trust me, Metro is the way to go if you're a tourist. Parking is free on the weeknds too

Popped back in to check on you
Check out the "Best Of DC" entries for restaurants in the DC City Paoer
http://legacy.washingtoncitypaper.com/bestofdc
Note the "Reader Picks" and "Staff Picks" are somewhat different.
Lots of restaurants around Gallery Place/Chinatown stop, including some harder-to-find fast-casual chains (Bibibop, Cava, and California Tortilla) and extremely good (and reasonably-priced) Asian Food.
Alternatively, Old Town Alexandria has a lot of decent dining options as well.
My office is by the Silver Spring station, its in suburbia but if you walk north a block (past the Discovery Communications Building) there are a lot of dining options in a small area. Want good Ethiopian? Go down Georgia Avenue toward the World Building.

Just had an additional thought. Since you are driving down from Fredneck, you can try some dining options in Montgomery County while still in your car...
Once you get to Germantown, hope on Route 355 (Rockville Pike) south. The two big areas are Gaithersburg and Rockville.
There is a nice little brew pup in historic Gaithersburg. If you want more upscale, continue down Route 355 inside the Beltway to Bethesda and Chevy Chase. If you want ridiculously overpriced, continue on 355 until it becomes Wisconsin Avenue and takes you right into Georgetown.
thanks everyone for the input I had a blast in DC. thank God for the metro
