Yeah usually willmyphonework.net is a good place to check, tons of airports usually sell some pocketwifi device too. Your best bet is to just go get a 100 dollar burner phone and use that most of the time

Thank you. A burner phone seems like a good idea. Any experience with the pocket wifi though?

Just take a burner phone if yours is not unlocked. You'll need a Sim card anyway for making calls and shiet.

Just spent a month over in Japan and some travel to china, here is a run down
SIM
Pros:
>not going to lose it unless you lose your phone
>some phones will even hotspot and bridge the signal
>doesn't require extra accessory or to be returned to X place for face a fee
>does not require to be charged
>usually pretty cheap
Cons
>laptops and multiple devices may not have wifi
>phone has to be unlocked
Wifi
Pros:
>Locked devices will can use wifi
>multiple devices can use it
>usually speeds are fairly high compared to a sim
Cons
>Expensive
>must be charged
>carried close by or in pocket
>usually requires a deposit you can get back after returning the device, not all return times are equal on your deposit
Personally unless you are going with a group, traveling/staying at a place without a mcdonalds or hotel with wifi, the SIM will do about 99% of what you need. HTC and Asus make some good ~100 dollar phones that work well in SEA. For my trip I left my main phone at home and had google voice forward my calls to me which were very few.
