Hi /trv/ I'm from Ohio and wanting a change of scenery, I have 15,000 in moving funds and I don't really have much to move. So, I'll probs live in an apartment with my dog and few belongings but here's the catch I'm gay(but not flamboyant) and right wing. But in pic related what's the best state for me to live in? Thanks in advance!
>gay
>right wing
Definitely Louisiana, it's full of closeted conservatives. Which is not to imply that you are closeted, just that there will be more guys that share your sexual orientation and politics. They just won't be open about it.
>>1296334
Cool cool yea I'm not closeted but I'm not one of those limp-wristed anti-gun peeps. But I own a lot of knives so Louisiana is based.
>>1296239
cubans in s. florida (miami, dade, palm beach) who are older or anti-castro are conservatives and pro limited govt and entrepreneurship. Some of their descendants feel the same. Southwest florida from naples to sarasota has a bunch of wealthier republican base.
It is actually fun to be political in northern virginia, if you are an activist type, you won't find a greater population that actually watches news, reads multiple sources of news, and stays abreast of news and actually likes talking about it.
Alaska is really it's own entity in an unto itself. It is kind of the leave-me-alone state, where people go to just get away. From anarchists to survivalists to outdoors types, I think actually it could be pretty lonely for someone who needed a good social scene to feel alive and normal. If you and a partner wanted leaving alone, an introverted, and more than adequate income, you might love it.
>>1296345
Thanks, I'll think about Alaska for a retirement type thing
>>1296345
Gonna second those thoughts on Alaska. If you do move to Alaska, you'll most likely end up in Anchorage, Juneau or Wasilla. All of which, despite being in Alaska, are just kind of shitty middle American cities without much history or culture. Wasilla in particular is like every bad low-rent suburb stereotype in one town.
The most interesting places are the more remote places, but living there means you're either independently wealthy or just scraping by. Not much of a middle class.
Tell us more about why you want to leave Ohio. That might help us answer the question better.
Also, Jacksonville FL here, ask me whatever.
>>1296239
Any nice beaches in Ohio?
>>1296349
>The most interesting places are the more remote places, but living there means you're either independently wealthy or just scraping by. Not much of a middle class.
Yup. It would be glorious if you and a spouse were all the lovin and company you want for the rest of your life and did a combination of living off your land and some high pricetag sporting around the state, or if you were simply seasonal and enjoyed the amazing summer months. Living in Alaska is true homesteading if you aren't say military.
Also might be handy to know what your skills/career ideas are.
Like if you're a diesel mechanic or medical professional definitely go to Alaska, you'll make bank. But if you're a software engineer you probably won't do so well.
>>1296360
Beaches? No, well not in my experience. Me and my dad used to go up by the now David-Besse power plant and there was a little Marina with a good fishing/boating community
>>1296358
Mainly just change of location I'm 18 but there's too many bad memories here so I wanted to get as far away as possible
>>1296371
You should focus on going to trade school or college, depending on what your interests and talents are.
Make that part of your selection process, look at schools that you could go to.
>>1296362
> Skills
I'm a fast learner
Good with my hands
Smart 3.2 GPA 22 ACT
>Career Plans
Originally planned to be a biochemist/pharmacist but switched to my old mans work welding, mechanics, electrical, and HVAC
>>1296334
>>1296379
>22 ACT
>smart
You can be smart without having a high ACT... but lad... That's not a good ACT score
>>1296385
Honestly I had the third highest ACT score. I come from a very disenfranchised part of Ohio just south of Columbus it's not good. That's another reason I wanted to move, it's because most people do drugs and drink for fun and prostitution as a day job
>>1296239
Unironically, enlist and go to places like Japan if you want a totally new experience and don't want to spend $$ at all.
>>1296369
Just wondering because Illinois and Indiana have some pretty sandy areas
>>1296400
I don't understand why everyone isn't in the military, the only reason I'm not is because I'm a cripple l, but it seems like ideal lifestyle.
>travel around the world with bros
>cool vehicles and toys
>don't need to waste money on shit like clothes, rent, food
>>1296404
Yeah, it's like summer camp for grown ups.
>>1296404
It's in my alt. plans to join the army or navy for the medical experience. But my selection for a lot of jobs is limited just because I got suspended once for 10 days for basically nothing(holding hands with a guy really religious school didn't like that) they have a no relations with others rule in the handbook within school bounds so they stuck me with that.
>>1296402
It's cool dude I get it but yea Midwest doesn't have much except for the Ohio river and Great Lakes
>>1296387
Valid reasons to move.
Go ahead and just work your trade from your dad, and get established somewhere low rent like west coast of florida, save a few bucks and get official state residency in some tax returns a couple of years, and then pay your own way through the schooling you want/dream job aspirations at resident tuition rates. If you are bright, you already know that loans/debt simply stress people out. With HVAC you might get a good perm job somewhere, like a hotel or big building, maybe even a university.
Biochem has a pathway in life, and it usually involves 7 years of financial support from family as well as loans and scholarships. You might do well in pharmacology on the 5 year plan and loans. It is nearly a sure thing. I'm not sure about your scores for any competitive program. You might have to prove yourself with a community college associates degree of outstanding performance instead. move onto a state school instead.
>>1296407
I'm from Oklahoma, believe me, I understand.
>>1296409
Thanks dude for the help, I've already kindof been exposed to monthly bills because of my mother being in between jobs(prison guard to hospice) and father passed at 13. So I pay for the bills every now and again
>>1296410
Oklahoma yikes, any rain from Harvey? That's tough living dude cheers to you
>>1296406
Navy or Air Force is prob better than Army but either is harder to go than Army I heard.
>>1296414
Yea I was going to go into AF but realized it was harder to get into so I was gonna go corpsman in the Navy
>>1296239
Louisiana is difficult, you don't want to live East of Lafayette or North of St. Francisville, Southeast LA is the best version of LA you can get.
There are a lot of Pros and a lot of cons
Pros
>best food in world
>nicest people
>Great nightlife(New Orleans)
>One of the actual real American Cultures that are not heavily influenced by anything
>Great winters
>God-tier hunting and fishing
>safe in non black areas, I lived in BR for 20 years and have never had anything or heard about anything bad happening to anyone
Cons
>Hot pretty much year round, we have some cold days in the winter but last January we had 10 days with 75+ temps, sucks for winter lovers
>2 seasons Summer and winter?
>Mosquitoes are so bad it's not funny, I keep 2 thermacells in my car
>A lot of blacks, the blacks down here are pretty bad
>Not much to do if you don't like nature
>It is never not humid
Louisiana has the best culture out of every state in the US, it is evident if you have ever been down here, but that being said, if you can't make friends it will suck, if you don't like super heat don't come here, the thermometer may say 90, but it feels like 115, 100% humidity is real and we have it quite often. I'm 20 and have never seen it snow before
>>1296371
Why'd you put Georgia on your list. Kinda sticks out compared to the others.
>>1296433
As a Louisianan what's the best southern state to live in and in your opinion what's your city in that state
>>1296436
Idk actually I think it was just for like wiggle room
>>1296440
Well I might actually suggest Jacksonville FL. It's not a crazy tourist town like Miami, New Orleans, or Seattle. That said, it's great for living in. Fun beach culture, quickly growing downtown, hipster neighborhoods St Augustine is less than an hour away, Orlando is nearby as well, people are friendly, things are cheap and jobs are plentiful. Very safe, crime never leaks out of the west side. We don't get hit by hurricanes directly, something to do with weather patterns.
It's not throbbing with energy, if you want that, go to New Orleans. That city is a roller coaster and I love it, moles and all.
But if you want someplace more down to earth, try Jacksonville.
Disclaimer: lifelong Jacksonville resident
>>1296553
Thanks, Jacksonville sounds like a riot
>>1296439
Honestly Tenessee or Texas would be great to live in
>>1296562
But that is my opinion of a straight male who grew up in the countryside, I like the southern dixie culture but Southern Louisiana doesn't have that and the rest of Louisiana is a shithole.
Texas you could live in the huge cities and have a gay partner relatively easy, Austin, Dallas, and Houston would be good, plus super strong economy and Texan culture is always fun
>>1296673
Thanks I'll keep that in mind
>>1296402
There's a few beaches along Lake Erie that almost feel like the real thing during the summer; try Headlands beach and the other ones northeast of Cleveland
>>1296379
>3.2
Lmao I had a 4.0 in my bachelor's and I'm not even smart
>>1296385
The average ACT score in the US is like 18 or 19, the mode in most low-income is often somewhere around 15 or 16
Truly a sorry state that we're in
>>1296239
Fuck off yankee, we're full.
>Alaska
Closest state to libertarian in the country. Votes Republican, but isn't in your face and will most likely just leave you alone. Aside from that, I hope you don't mind being cold.
>Washington
You will almost never meet homophobes here. Very laid back culture, though your vote is useless here. Additionally it's a maritime climate along the coast, which means slightly warmer winters and slightly cooler summers than you're probably used to.
>Florida
Surprisingly a lot of Republicans in the cities(thanks Cuba/retirement communities), and the rural areas/smaller towns turn red every 4 years. It is very hot down here though, and you will see humidity every day because despite being called the Sunshine State it does rain regularly. I'd stay in South Florida though if I were you. You might be called a fag occasionally, but the Florgiabama part of the state really isn't too much more accepting than the rest of the Deep South.
>Louisiana
Stick to a city and avoid black neighborhoods. Great food, great culture, and New Orleans is incredibly unique. Be prepared for heat and humidity year round like in Florida.
>Georgia
Atlanta or Savannah are pretty neat, though if you're gonna be in that kind of heat you might as well just pick Jacksonville, Florida for a less densely packed city that has a little more Florida to it.
To sum it up, Florida is the best choice for you in my opinion. But where do you want to go?
>>1299031
>Florida is the best choice for you in my opinion.
And he can get a great deal on seafront property! It's totally a buyer's market in FL right now.
>>1299031
I was thinking about Texas/Louisiana then retire to Alska or Washington
>>1298600
Close
>>1299269
Where in Texas would you want to go?
>>1299429
Idk actually, maybe like a town around Austin or Houston
>>1296239
There's almost no women in Alaska but very few non pedophile gays.
GA is a completely different experience than Ohio, warmer year round and the people are culturally backwards in comparison.
Washington is nice, four seasons and you get to go outside in the winter without a parka. Lots of gay looking hipsters too.
