Two weeks or more - I'm on a six-month trip right now. Currently in Tanzania, India on Wednesday, might do Sri Lanka and Nepal, too. Back to Mexico in December and then home at the beginning of January.

Thankfully, I earn a decent bit of money from writing. I can work from anywhere in the world and think I'll still have my best contract through at least next year.

Had an office job for a year and a half. I earned well but got fucking sick of the routine and monotony very quickly.

Once I graduate, I'm probably going to do the Peace Corps. If, for whatever reason, that plans falls through, I think I'll teach English in Latin America in conjunction with my writing work and an online master's program. After that, PhD and maybe work with the government or an NGO so I can live a comfy live overseas.

I do two vacations of 2 weeks yearly, and one week of visiting my home country.
(City trips during long weekends not included in the above.)

Ask ahead of time (like months in advance) take over other people's shifts and ask them for a favor later--they get to drink on birthdays, at Halloween, New Years, and Thanksgiving so long as they let me fuck off for a bit in the summer.....if management says no, quit and work at IHOP when I return.

Actually I planned out all my vacation for next five years if things go according to my plan. Start having kids after five years. Hopefully my last trip before having kids is voyage to Antarctica.

University administrator, I get theee weeks vacation and five personal days a year. I take one trip a year lasting a month, otherwise I get plenty of long weekends and my office is closed during winter/ spring break anyway.

My gf and I don't make much so we can only do a few days at a time, and nothing too exotic. Previous jobs allowed me to take 1-2 week trips though, I miss that. Oh, and I taught for a few years, and I would go solo wandering and camping for a month or so during summers

Fortunately, I'm an hourly contractor with my company, and my boss is very cool, so I can take off pretty much whenever I want...I just don't get paid. We're going out of town this weekend for a concert, so I'm just going to tell him tomorrow that I'll be out Monday. It's great not having to worry about HR and requests and shit like I used to do.

French (Reunion)
Independant "teacher" for adults (professional training)
Own a trading company
As of recently (June), part time worker for a government owned professional training centre (as a sales manager)

The last gig provides me with 10 weeks paid leave (public servant FTW gotta love muh socialism, private sector still has 5 weeks/year).

For the past 8 years tho I was 100% self employed so I could take however long vacations I wanted, I just would not get paid.
I usually take a 3 weeks to 1 month trip to France yearly, then 2 to 3 additional weeks throughout the year, budget according.
Don't know how to deal with the paid leave I have now, so far I've just cashed them in while still working on my own trading company.

I'm not planning to write for the rest of my life.

Like I said, I'm still in university. I'll graduate with two BSc degrees within the next year and a half. After that I'd like to do the Peace Corps in conjunction with an MSc program and then eventually get a PhD.

Writing is a great way to make some easy money, especially if it comes naturally and you're a fast typist. One of my contracts with a law firm pays $20 per 400-word article; I do about 40 per month for $800 in total.

I type 150 words per minute and can usually knock out a decent piece in twenty minutes, so I don't work on those projects for more than five or six hours per week.

It's a great job to have as a young person, but I don't want to be at the mercy of someone else's budget for the rest of my life.

Definitely want to keep doing this through grad school, since I can work from anywhere I want. It's really, really good for traveling, but I'm well aware it doesn't provide much in the way of security.
