This is a really weird map, by the way.

If you look closely, you can see that Hong Kong & Macau are visible as separate pieces of land, as opposed to just being part of China.

However, the same can't be said about Singapore. You can see Malaysia & Indonesia, but Singapore isn't clearly defined on its own.

I've "been to" some other countries as well, but just so I could get through to other countries, so I didn't colour them (for example I had to drive through Belgium and France to visit UK, but I was there for an hour or two and only on the highways).

In CR I went Alajuela right after landing, 2 days there to visit volcano Poas. Then went to La Fortuna for a few days, San Jose for a few, Manuel Antonio and then did a 3 day trek in Corcovado. Really liked CR and I got super lucky that I found a guide into Corcovado because the trek there was one of the most interesting things I've ever done in my life.

Panama was alright, I was only there for about 5 days + the day I flew out. I stayed in Panama City the whole time except for 1 day where I went to Portobelo. I'd like to go back there some day to visit some of the national parks, my goal is to some day ride a motorbike from Argentina to Alaska over the span of a year or so and will be back there.

Currently in a dinky-ass village in rural Tanzania.

Staying here until the beginning of September and then traveling to Zambia to see Victoria Falls and its surroundings. Spending about ten days each in Zambia and Egypt before heading over to India.

Did Mexico for a month between June and July.

Supposed to go to India on October 1st but meh. I've been there seven times and lived in New Delhi for about a month and a half. Honestly not too enthused about going back again - I had a fucking stellar time in Mexico. Nobody fucking stared at me, annoyed the piss of me, or was even moderately unfriendly. Even the beggars went away with a "no, gracias."

Plus, food was outstanding.

Planning to ditch India in November and either do some more of SEA. Might also return to Mexico to go to a wedding in Oaxaca (some grill said she'd pay half my plane ticket, but I'm not that much of a dick) or do Guatemala and whatever else.

When I went to Hawaii I met a Slovenian teacher who was there for a whole month, a week each on a different island. I asked her why she didn't go somewhere else as well, because this was her whole vacation, just Hawaii but she thought it was a stupid question to ask because in her mind just going to Hawaii was more than a dream for her. a brief rundown
I arrived in UB on the train from Irkustk at 6am and it was -15 C and foggy with pollution. The city is a bit of a clusterfuck with a few inexplicably shiny new skyscrapers being built amidst commie blocks that haven't had a lick of paint since the 50s. Sadly there are street beggars in this dismal weather. The people are friendly and chilled until they start driving, when they become psychotic with rage. The women aren't attractive, the food is average or poor. They have a random beatles statue, went in a big commie era shopping mall that was stuffed with western brands. There are no coins, just notes and the lowest denomination is worth 0.3p. I paid for one beer with 19 notes. It was actually more expensive than Russia. As soon as the sun sets the air fills with coal smoke as everyone lights fires at home.

I went to a few monasterys, the gandan khiid has an amazing statue. Another smaller one I forget the name of, we watched the monks chanting a hypnotic mantra which was surreal. Drove out to the big chinggis khan statue (ugly piece of junk) in the countryside, scariest drive of my entire life, 2 lane "motorway" full of old haytrucks which block your view, but everyone gets up the arse of the trucks and then pulls out to overtake at the last second even around corners. The Gorkhi national park was beautiful, very serene, untouched. Stayed in a ger camp for a few nights, it was actually quite commercial with western toilets and a kitchen (I stayed with the navajo in arizona, who had no running water and did bison steaks on an open fire). The gers were extremely comfy. I walked up a mountain on my own and was followed by a dog, I realised it was a dog from the camp I was at and he was probably protecting me from the many wild dogs in the area. deffo the most random place i've been, I often thought "why the fuck am I here?"

I'm staying in a village in central Zanzibar and haven't spent much time on the mainland.

Everyone here is quite nice to me, but I suspect that's largely because my host is a long-term Peace Corps volunteer who's fluent in Swahili. We've known each other for four years. He told me that he had a very difficult time gaining the villagers' trust, and that they were initially quite rude. They love him now, though.

Didn't like the taste of Dar I got on the way to Zanzibar. People seemed a bit more aggressive, in a physical way, and I've been told the city suffers from lots of petty crime a la Latin America (purse snatching, express kidnappings, and so forth).

I'll travel to a few scenic places on the mainland before I leave at the beginning of September.

More or less trying to save money for the time being.
