Has anyone here rented a car in Asia or more specifically Thailand? I'm going to Chiang Mai and want to see the mountains without needing a tour group. Is this recommended? How difficult is it to adjust to driving on the left side of the road? I don't plan on driving in Bangkok, just northern Thailand.
just rent a motorbike, much easier to ride in the heavy traffic

Australian here so left hand is natural for me, but I go to the states regularly and find no trouble moving over.
Rent a Forunner and you should be fine, Bangkok actually has a massive highway and over pass system. Never driven in Thailand before and got a car, drove to Pattaya and back to Bangkok city central several times and this is when shutdown bangkok was on. You'll be fine if your a confident and comfortable driver.
