I'm heading to ukraine in a few weeks. Kiev and Odessa atleast, maybe also Lviv.
Any advice for these cities? Looking for tips about general sights, nightlife (especially techno/underground) stuff, food and women I guess.
Is chernobyl worth it? A tour there is quite expensive for me since I'm travelling for quite some time but also keen on seeing it. Thoughts?

Odessa won't be as fun as Kiev, partially due to the increased military presence there, but it'll be something. Don't talk to the women there though, they are almost entirely profiting off of dumb western tourists
Nightlife in Kiev is pretty nice, but drugs are going to be weak and still as costly as they are in other parts of Europe. Food is cheaper, and tasty, so don't worry about dining out at a nice restaurant. Women are beautiful, but your western passport isn't worth as much as it used to be, so don't feel bad if they treat you as a human being instead of some sort of demigod.
Chernobyl is not worth it
Lviv is not worth it
Try to go to Kharkiv instead, or hell even Chernigov

Someone recently told me the stairs are being repaired right now and nobody can go on them.

Can anyone confirm this? Planning to visit odessa this august to see a friend and gonna be kinda bummed if the steps are closed.

Yes, I can confirm. Maintenance since end of April, but if you are lucky it will be finished in August.

I've been to Chernobyl this March and for 90$ I can say that it was money well spent, Kiiv is nice too, but nothing extra
Lvov is not worth it, if you're after sights - only one nice square and that's it, BUT if you want to get hammerd for the cheapest price ever it's your town to go :D

Thanks man I'll definitely keep these on my list. I fly in August 16th so maybe I'll be good anyway
is it safe to travell to ukraine for a non white ? my best friend is brown, we'll like to go there but im afraid of harrassment
>>1258727
Im brown and from the USA (east coast), if your friend is too harassment probably isnt new to him. but kinda seconding this in case there's more hostility in ukraine. I heard cops might be more likely to pick on us and might alienate some women but I dont care.

Forgot to add im the same anon who posted earlier asking about the steps.

Lol, I am russian and I think you don't want to see Ukraine. It is just like Russia outside Moscow, but smaller and poorer. And I know what am i talking about because every summer I go to my relatives living there.
I was for 3 weeks in kyev and the only interesting sight I got was the field trip to Chernobyl. I think it could be worthwhile only if you've already got really dear friends there, otherwise people are kinda shitty too

there's foreign students from india and africa, turks go there for whores
some people will use slurs about you in ukrainian, but you wont understand them

it's very easy to go to ukraine, most westerners can just show up at the airport and can stay for months
russia is a big hassle with visas
>>1258694
Can you recommend me the travel agency you went with? I'm interested on visiting Chernobyl :)

>it's very easy to go to ukraine, most westerners can just show up at the airport and can stay for months

This is actually the only reason why so many go to Ukraine.
Russia is a fucking pain for most nationalities to get a visa for, Ukraine is very straight forward and easy to do for almost everyone.
Yes, Ukraine is a fair bit shitter than Russia in many ways, there's less things to see and do. No doubt more people would go to Russia if the visa system was better.

we went with the one the TopGear went, it was well organised, two groups two minibuses, each went separately to the zone
I don't remember the name though, but you'll find it easily; with a group of 4 you get 10% off...
the guide spoke english well, but don't expect something scientifically accurate, I am a mechanical, not nuclear engineer, and I knew more about the topic than him, but it was funny, you learnt their point of view and I was satisfied with the guide, even tipped him
from the research I made I can say, that it doesn't matter with which agency you go, as the prices they have are absolutely the same... so all you can do, is read some reviews and pick one you like...with this one we payed a 20% deposit online and the rest in Kiiv.
I don't think the two day trip is worth the money, it was a nice experience, but I wonder what more they show you on the second day :D
Does anybody have any experience with escorts in Ukraine? Are they legit? How likely am I to walk into a crack den and be gutted like a fish by Igor?
I've travelled all over, this is not babby's first trip abroad, but I've never paid for sex in any country. It's just that the prices are ridiculously cheap, £50 for one hour...
How complicated is it to move from city to city without speaking russian? I can read cyrillic (just the alphabet, no idea about what the words mean) so I could recognize the names of places etc, but buying tickets etc, is it too hard without any language skills?
>>1260992
You'd be absolutely fucked, reading an alphabet and not knowing what the words mean is pointless
>>1260992
Very limited English outside of Kyiv, you will have better luck in the Western part of the country.
>>1261099
Not true. Being able to read gives you access to a bunch of words that sound similiar to either English or even some Germanic languages as well. It is never a disadvantage to be able to read, even though you don't know what it all means.

Look at the International Sex Guide forum posts on Ukraine. Some people don't like these topics on /trv/, which is fair enough.

Ukrainians are outwardly racist but not violently so, more verbal.
My family is Ukrainian, and my dad came up from the States to visit me in Canada while on a road trip with a friend of his from Kiev. When I told my dad I was dating someone, his friend's response was "Hopefully not a black, right?"
Verbally racist people, but that's pretty much the extent.
