It's an OK neighborhood. The big minus is that it's next to George Washington Bridge that connects NYC and New Jersey. Lots of people from NJ cross the bridge to come to this neighborhood to buy illegal drugs. Consequently, there's more drug-related violence than average. On the plus side, it's easy to take the subway to some more interesting parts of the city, and you'll probably only spend time there sleeping.

You're in the the Bronx new Fordham University. While there will be cultural and historical apologists, the Bronx is the poorest, dirtiest and most crime ridden of NYC's 5 Boroughs. For reasons of mass migration and 200 years of NYC history you are advised to do nothing but sleep at your apartment. Avoid the Bronx generally. The zoo has excellent conservation programs but the facilities are dirty and seeing the "cool" animals require supplementary tickets. The biggest attraction in the Bronx is the Yankees.

Based on the proximity to subway lines you can hit the tourist shit in Manhattan down to approximately 14th street with some level of convenience. If you want New York the theme park you'll be fine, but if you want New York as lived by New Yorkers you dun goofed.

Sure the Bronx is dirty but it's really not that dangerous, if it were its own city it wouldn't be considered particularly dangerous.

1228597 again. Coming into Manhattan from Brooklyn in Queens will always be better for tourists. Look at the subway map. It's not like you're going to get your wallet and kidney stolen in the Bronx, it just has grinding, soul-sucking poverty and is further from anything you'd want to see.
