If you must, be careful with your cellphone usage. Cruise ships have their own small cell towers with uplinks to a satellite so you can call people as if you're on land. They are supposed to cut them off when they are at port but sometimes they 'accidentally' leave them on so when people get off the boat, they place a call thinking they are using local towers but are actually connected to the $hip's tower. So get some distance between you and the boat before you make any calls. Also, put your phone in airplane mode on the ship otherwise you'll be downloading data at ridiculous prices as well. Look into international calling plans your cellphone carrier may provide which will save you money when abroad.

I'd really recommend going to a 2 star resort than a low budget cruise, unless you already live in florida

if you want to cruise on a budget, check out the repositioning cruises, a lot of the alaska cruise boats during the summer are caribbean cruises during the winter every year there's seattle-miami 2 week trips for the cost of a normal 1 week
>>
>>1224606
For a family of four a Carnival Cruise is lower than the proce of a resort. I was in fact planning on taking my family to a resort, All inclusive, with airfare. For the cost of the one person was more than two people on the cruise. Even with driving to Miami the night before and getting a hotel.
>>
I went on one to Alaska about 5 years ago but I'll share my experience

>Go with parents because they offered to pay
>Meet redheaded QT on first night who was also dragged along with parents
>Chat it up and have drinks, part ways and get her room number
>Next morning leave a note with my room number asking her to hang out
>24 hours pass with no response
>See her with her mom the next day and hide from her because I assumed she was just being nice
>Run into her eventually and chat it up, casually bring up the note with suspicions that I had the wrong room number, it was the wrong room number
>Get drinks
>She asks if I wanna go back to her room and watch that musical with whose line is it anyways
>Go back and watch an episode or two
>Hook up that night and pretty much for the rest of the cruise
>Didn't wear condoms like an idiot but didn't end up with a baby or STD

Other than that....the food was mediocre and 90% of people were either really old or children. The stops we made in Alaska and in Victoria were great, however.

tl;dr cruises suck
>>
>>1224608
that musical with whose line is it anyways

that musical with Neil Patrick Harris, but I got it mixed up with another experience and forgot to completely erase
>>
>>1224607
did you see
>unless you already live in florida

if you're within driving distance to miami it's different
>>
>>1224610
But I don't live in Florida. Hence me driving the day before and getting a hotel room. Gas and hotel is still cheaper than four plane tickets.

Also, I have met people on cruises that flew in on cheap flights to Miami. Even with those flights it was cheaper than a flight to the Caribbean, especially from the West Coast, where Caribbean flights aren't cheap. Only Mexico, Hawaii, and Asia.
>>
>>1224608
Which Cruise line did you go on? Different cruise lines have different personalities/attract different audiences. Carnival is the everyman, fun, booze cruise. Royal Caribbean is nicer, but boring.
>>
>>1224612
norwegian
>>
>>1224619
Basically only Carnival is he "Everyman" cruise, less classy, but at the same time, more fun for than the rest, if you are young or have older kids. Best cruise for singles, because a lot of slores, "girl trip" on Carnival. Cruise snobs/elitists hate on Carnival because of this, but the think they hate is what makes it the best for many.

>work for a big hotel in Seattle
>Hotel gets contract with big cruise line
>Everytime cruise passengers came in, norovirus went through hotel like wildfire
>One lady woke up shitting. Ran to bathroom shitting and puking all over room
>every employee that dealt with that was out sick for a week

You couldn't pay me to get on a cruise ship.
>>
I once went on a cruise in the Carribeans and fucked 17 girls in 10 days. Would recommend

My experience from my only cruise trip

>get invited with family to join them on a cruise
>get my own room
>spent 3 hours trying to get on the ship
>spend another 2 hours on emergency drill exercise
>exiting the harbor was exciting and scenic
>exploring the boat the first time around is exciting
>free pizza
>I got bored very quickly
>walk around the ship countless times
>little to no cellphone reception
>cant take a piss without authorization from crew members who try to jew you out of every cent
>mostly families and old couples - no real hotties to chat up with
>the shows were mostly mediocre
>no decent tv channels
>just bored most of the time

Honestly the only time I actually enjoyed the trip was when we stopped at an island, disembarked by boat and could sunbathe on the beach in a private section. It was the only time I felt I was on holiday. The rest of the time I felt stuck in a limited hotel/mall.

It may be more fun if you have somebody else to enjoy it with, but if you get bored easily - I would recommend something else.

>spend three hours trying to get on the ship

Bro. You're complaining about a whopping FIVE hours out of a week-long experience. You just sound like a boring, anti-social weirdo who can't have fun or just likes to complain about everything.

Get your act together and try to enjoy things, man.
>>
>>1224788
Not copypasta and not a samefag. I worked for the Hyatt in Seattle for five years and we had a contract with Holland America. Every time we had passengers come in, someone was sick and we had procedures for disinfecting the entire hotel. Every department was given cans of hospital grade virucide and everything, phones, keys, radios, keyboards, had to be sprayed at the beginning and end of every shift.

I have friends that work at the in-land lodges for Princess Alaska Cruises and they have similar problems.
>>
>>1224793
>You're complaining about a whopping FIVE hours out of a week-long experience.
I never said it was a week long trip. Yes - standing in queues for FIVE hours before I even get to my cabin is terrible.

>You just sound like a boring, anti-social weirdo who can't have fun or just likes to complain about everything.
I believe I mentioned I was actively looking for hotties to chat up with and seeking for things to do all over the ship. Excuse me that Im not on your level who can find amusement in an restrictive, overpriced shopping mall on water.

>Get your act together and try to enjoy things, man.
My act is perfectly together and in full swing; never bother with a cruise again and rather do the things I know I'll enjoy.

FYI - Not all cruise ships are MS Totally Awesome. People enjoy different things and will have higher standards than you.

Did yoir cruise ship not have comedy shows, concerts, gambling, dance clubs, or games?
>>
Make friends, travel to secure countries, learn the language and be careful don't trust in anyone
>>
>>1224842
>comedy shows
no
>concerts
no - just one variety show per night with pre-recorded songs
>gambling
one small casino for ship credit
>dance clubs
one with a bunch of tweens
>or games?
old small arcade with none of the classics and the mini golf course was going under renovation.
>>
>>1224868
What cruise line? As been stated, Carnival is the fun, party ship
>>
>>1224554
Unless the cruise has day port stops there is no reason to even bother. It's literally the same as being stuck in a hotel with liquor and a casino with walking distance.
>>
I've done two Disney cruises, they were alright. One was to the Bahamas (not really recommended unless you're into that sort of thing), the other to Alaska (rec'd).

The problems with cruises is that even if it's a fine ship, you're still stuck on it for days at a time until you can get off to do actually interesting things. Major cabin fever.
>>
I enjoyed David Foster Wallace's 'A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again'.
>>
>>1224605
+1
I've heard horror stories about this very thing.
Prices for calls over satellites are usually really high.
>>
>>1224868
My Carnival cruise had all these things. Great professional comedians. Great musicians. Great clunbs. I didn't use the arcade, but it was there, large, and recent. If this is a R&R vacation it was definitely preferable to a resort
>>
>>1224893
How is this different from when people stay at resorts. You took longer cruises, but most in the aren't days at sea. You may have 2 sea days, maybe 3 on a week or longer one. That includes either the say you depart or come back being one of them. At least for the Caribbean and Europe.

What's a better R&R option fpr a vacation in your mind?

>>
>>1224997
nope
>>1224968
He us just the sponsor/face. Not ob the ships.

Carnival is the ultimate normie cruise, so I understand if it's anti-trv/4Chan. It appeals to the lowest common denominator, but that is also the majority. Matter of fact, Carnival ships during spring break or Memorial Day are crazy. I will find out about Christmas this year
>>
I think the moral of the story is to do some research and go on a decent cruise ship.
Unless you end up on a shit ship like this fella

I have been on two cruises both times with my girlfriend. Some people knock them and i can understand it but it is a very affordable way to travel because they cover your three major expenses room, food, and travel. That being said i would pick the cruise based on the ports. I went tothe carribean both times and didnt know which island i wanted to vacation to so i thought a cruise would be a good option. I think one was on norwegian the other on royal carribean.

Tips

Book the cheapest room possible you will never be in it
Get in line early for the disembarkation
Book some excursions or you will be stuck in a cheap mall which is usally next to the port. If your cheap or adventorous you might be able to save a couple bucks by negotiating with vendors off the ship.

I liked norwegian more cause royal and other ships have fixed times when you have to eat dinner with a group and dinners can take over an hour. Norwegian had flexxible dining do go to the upgraded restaurants they were worth it.

The down side is your usally at the port from like 9-5 so you can usally only do one or two things and dont get a good feel of the culture of the place

I'm not familiar with Boost's plans but I presume any prepaid unlimited plan doesn't include international calls overseas. Probably the same with X hours per month plans as well or they'll convert the cost of the ship's minutes into Boost minutes and deduct from your account. Call Boost customer service to really find out you tards.
