Heads up for travelers, new rules impacting luggage to, from or transiting Dubai.

So in which category do backpacks fall in? Are they too "irregular"? The bottom is not flat enough?
But hey, good to know the kikes will rob you blind for stuffing it in a cardboad box.

>So in which category do backpacks fall in?

The fact that a backpack has, almost definitionally, long straps, makes me think they are going to be an issue until the airport inevitably issuesa"except Backpacks are OK" revision.

Duffle bags seem to be problematic as well. Compression bags are right out.

An e-mail just received from Emirates Airline in response to a question about this implies they are contesting the restrictions put in place by authorities at DXB -- which may or may not be true, and, if true, may or may not result in the rule being changed.

Any /trv/lers transiting DXB in the next weeks, with something other than a standard rectangular suitcase, a report back on what you experienced would be appreciated.

A bunch of us who travel with these are semi-panicking about it, enough of us travel that some of us should hit DXB or Emirates in general in the next few weeks, and will be keeping each other informed. I'll share here if I learn anything.

Lol they're literally kickbanning backpackers
>>
If you get one of those "airport backpack protector" things (basically just a big bag that fits the backpack), it should get past this anyway.

Or they could put your backpack in a big plastic bag, I've had them do it to mine before.

This restriction is aiming to prevent things that cause bags to snag on their automated baggage movement system. A backpack-shaped bag without protrouding straps shouldn't cause problems.

As long as it fits their definition of having a flat surface.
>>
fuck, i guess ill find out in a week. I pack so lightly i could probably carry it on.
>>
>>1221319
I understand why they are doing this. All the third worlders that transit through there with literal trash bags, smashed up cardboard boxes, or just a bunch of saran wrapped shit
>>
>>1221879
This is the main problem. They are transmitted by so many third worlders without real luggage. A random airline might accept one or two oddly-shaped tagged items like strollers or salmon-filled coolers in AK but they are given back at the jetway for you to carry not expected to make it out to a bag claim conveyor.

Anyway, I don't transit this airport. At. All. Those taxes and landing fees I contribute towards doesn't go to slavery and corruption. I don't think the city is cool whatsoever.
>>
>>1221879
I understand it, but it's a dumb overreacton -- if trash bags full of laundry are the problem, band those.

>>1221914
Virtue signaling on 4chan? It's more likely than you think.
>>
>>1221879
yes but it's those third worlders that have made dubai what it is
>>
>>1221446
Me again.

A data point, a friend today transited Dubai on Emirates with four compression sacks like in my picture in my first post, but compressed, coming home from a festival in Kuwait. They had no issues -- or at least, their bags arrived home when they did.

One data point is not sufficient to draw a curve, but offered for what it is worth.
