I'm planning to go from South Germany by bus to crash the couch of a language exchange partner in Bordeaux for a week by the end of March and I might visit other cities on the way there.
Since I'm pretty tight on budget I'll take the bus and I'll depend on my local partner when I'm there. I have no experience with bus travel apart from taking a Greyhound from Montreal to Vermont once.
I'm interested in general experiences of people with flixbus, long-distance bus travel in Europe in general and those that have bought the InterFlix-Voucher once (5 cities for 99€). To me it seems that the Voucher seems cheaper than buying the single tickets, however I'm a bit unsure about the advertized conditions. It states on the website:
>In order for you to get the most out of your Europe - Trip and discover as many cities as possible, a return trip on the same route is not possible.
Does this mean I have to take a detour of one city on my way back in order to avoid the same route, even if it's less than the 5 cities?
I'm a right in assuming that transfers are not counted as using up 'a city'?
Took a flixbus from Vienna to Munich and with the exception of me and my friend, every single seat was taken by a disgusting, poor looking eastern european.
You won't enjoy the smell

They're pretty much never on time. The buses themselves are ok.

Take the flight not poor looking eastern european.!!

Dude, there's a special offer at Netto at the moment. You can take any Single Route in Europe for fucking 15€ ! You could go from Munich to Montpellier and then from Montpellier to Bordeaux for like 20€ to 30€. That would be all together about 40€ to get there.

I Use Flixbus all the time to visit my friend in the Netherlands. It's the cheapest way of traveling. Buses are often full and you will probably have to share a double seat with someone at some point. However that is the case for most public transportation and still not as cramped as Flying. Also there ist free Wi-Fi.
>Does this mean I have to take a detour of one city on my way back in order to avoid the same route?
It means you to take a round tour if you want to get back. You are not allowed to take the same city twice except your starting city of course.
>I'm a right in assuming that transfers are not counted as using up 'a city'?
You are Wrong to assume that. Each Transfer counts as a City.
You could Go Munich -> Zurich -> Lyon -> Bordeaux - > Montpellier -> Munich

Ah, thanks anyway

>You are Wrong to assume that
Alright, that's exactly why I'm asking.

So can I just leave out a city?
I might be starting from Ulm instead because it's a bit closer to me, so I would go Ulm -> Paris -> Bordeaux ->Montpellier ->Munich -> Ulm
Have you ever taken the bus over night trying to sleep during the ride?
>>1212397
You could take that route. I see no Problem.
>Have you ever taken the bus over night trying to sleep during the ride?
It's really hard for me to fall asleep and I've never gone longer then 5 hours on a trip, but I've seen many people sleeping on the bus. It depends. If you're tired enough you can sleep anywhere I suppose

Oh yeah, and how does this whole smartphone ticket thing work in practice?
>>1212419
You can just show the driver the PDF on your Smartphone and they will let you in
I've recently used FlixBus to Berlin from Southern Germany. It was a 10h30 ride and I really wouldn't suggest it for such distances. Depending on your size (I'm 6'4) it gets very uncomfortable after some time. Other than that it was ok, Wlan is pretty slow and most of the other travellers were german as well.
