Las Vegas Just a small rant. Just got back from a week there

What were you expecting? Whatever "class" is to you, it's not something vegas advertises itself as having. If you were to plan an itinerary well you'd be able to eat stay and visit some refined places, but if you were just walking around looking for something fun to do you'll only find the trashiest of trash.

What were you expecting? Symphonies and the opera?

I concur. Now you know. Monaco and Macau double also serve as marina and tax havens. Vegas is Disneyland for adults and the Mafia was so good at milking bumpkins they sold their equity off to public corporations. Seriously, who the fuck wants to spend more than ~48 hours at a theme park?

Sorry to hear that. It's not really the type of place you go alone. It's best with you and 4 buddies your age at like 19-25, and if you've got a dynamic(an entertaining arrangement of activities, but none so crucial that if you decide to skip one and do something spontaneously that it will ruin your trip) itinerary.

You could also just sit and gamble, and depending on how that goes, you could still leave feeling fulfilled.

I've been to Vegas 5 times, 4 as a kid with my parents and younger brother, and each time it was always fun, although it was very awkward walking down the strip as a 12 year old and having strangers mindlessly try and hand you business cards for escorts with naked women on them as your parents walk behind you lol. The last time I went was with 4 friends when I was 21 and just walked around. Some casinos we loitered in, others we played blackjack or poker. We would stop at all kinds of bars, and just walk the strip and occasionally act like hooligans. We stopped by the Bellagio and smoked blunts while watching the water fountain displays, one of my friends having dropped acid and insisted that we let him take a swim during the show. Out of the 5 of us, only me and my friend Arkel won enough money to not only pay for our trip in full, but to also recompense our other friend's losses.

It wasn't the best trip we've been on, but it wasn't as bad as you described, although there is a lot of old people.

I'd highly recommend you visit San Diego one day if you're ever coming back to the states(I assume that you're a foreigner since you referred to the people as Americans).

Vegas is mostly about clubbing these days. Gambling is still there, but nothing exotic. I liked Macau way way better than Vegas, but that's because there's more sight seeing, and way more family friendly.

People confuse Las Vegas the city and the Vegas Strip. Those are two completely different things.

Las Vegas the city, where the locals live, is a shit hole. The people who live there are drug addicts and alcoholics. It's dirty and poor. The Vegas Strip is what you see in movies, with the flashy money and hot women.

I've been to the Vegas Strip several times in my adult life and I've had a blast every time. I've seen cool Vegas shows, had some fun drunk nights, and banged several attractive tourist chicks I met at bars or around the hotels. It's what you make of it. And I spent nowhere near $15K so I don't know wtf OP was doing.

Vegas peaked in the 70s OP. Now its "family fun" and other boring shit. The mob is long gone, and so is the gaudy architecture and casino floors.

anecdote: my dad drove out to vegas on his 21st birthday in 1974. He had gone back many times ince then in the 80s 90s and 00s and said its never been the same

Spent a few days in Vegas. After attending parties all over the country, man I can't describe how fake Vegas feels. It's a party for people who have no idea what a good party is like. Most of the casinos are indistinguishable from the interior, and the majority of gambling is boring as hell. I had more fun in the arcade than at the slots.
There are some nice shows and food, but it's really a waste of a time when you could have more fun in any real city.

You've clearly never been there. aside from a couple resorts on the fringes, in no way is the strip "family" oriented or boring. If you're bored on the strip you are either poor or stupid.

And the architecture? it's just fine.

I'm going tomorrow with a much smaller budget. Ill let you all know how it goes. Only plans made are Grand canyon and going to the botanical gardens.

What are some of the better places to eat? Preferably not super expensive. Expensive to me would be30 dollars a person.

I wanna do at least one buffet as well since its just something that seems right to do your first time in vegas

The strip gets old fast, but Vegas is a cool city with a bunch of neat stuff to do. And the Southwest is the most beautiful part of the country, IMO. I'm going for a week in May with the GF, and we're going to hit up the Grand Canyon, Zion in SW Utah, and Death Valley. All ~2hrs away. It's probably second only to NYC in terms of number and quality of shows (if that's your thing), there's tons of outdoor stuff, and some (SOME) culture. Also a great restaurant city.

Guy who said I was staying for a week here. Staying at the linq. First night was pretty uneventful because we were all tired. We mostly walked the strip to look around and got some massive margaritas from fat Tuesdays. It tasted fine and the cost was normal tourist prices. 15 dollars for 50 ounces and 12 dollars for refills if you keep up with the cup.

Slept in today to be well rested for the rest of the week. Going to spend the morning looking for food and then doing so cheap gambling

Going to see at least one show while we are out here so any suggestions there will be nice.

Any chance there are good museums nearby it's one of my favorite things. Needs to be near the strip we don't have transportation other then ubers.

The mob museum is really cool, kind of pricey but you can easily get a good half day out of it, you might be able to find coupons or packages. And it's right downtown so you can hit up some of the dive-ier places after.

So bacchanal was worth it at the lunch price but personally think it wouldn't be worth it at the dinner price. Really good brisket and seafood. Will be doing wicked spoon tomorrow.

Ballagia fountain is worth seeing for sure but that's obvious. Just saying from someone who has never been.

Did vr adventure with a deal to make it 15 dollars. Well worth it to see other people screaming even if you don't do it.

Can someone give me a quick "guide to clubbing" in Vegas?

Just turned 21 and will definitely want to hit some clubs but what's it like in the desert?

Cover charges, dress codes, etc.

Bonus: Best club to pick up girls/club with most 21-25 y/o

I think Grand Canyon is meh but Zion is awesome. If you have a few hours make sure to do the Angel's Landing hike, that view after the last leg up the chains makes it all worth it.

It's high unless you're a bigtime gambler who loses a lot, or one of the douchebags who drop $5K a night on table service at the club.

Look you hear all the stories about rich people or people who want to be thought of as ballers dropping $50K a night in Vegas, and you can do that, but for most normal people I'd advise this.

Bring a thousand dollars per day. You may not spend it all, but the strip is one of the highest priced spots in the US to travel to. Food is expensive. Drinks are expensive. Shows/clubs/entertainment is expensive.

You CAN low ball the strip, but if you do you're not going to have nearly as good a time. I mean for fuck's sake you're in Vegas, sure you CAN drink PBR and eat at Taco Bell but if you do you're doing Vegas wrong. Straight up.

I take a grand a day and I feel like that covers me for whatever I want to drink, whatever I want to eat, cab fare, a spontaneous show if I come across one, and a few hundie to throw away in the slots. And you WILL throw it away. If you have a real problem losing or "wasting" money, don't go to Vegas. We don't want to hear you whining about "man, I just lost a WHOLE $20" while we're there.

If I go for 5 days I take $5K. Simple, and I never feel like I am hurting for money. If you don't trust yourself, bring it in cash and do 5 envelopes with $1K each and keep the other envelopes in your hotel safe to make it harder to access.

Just don;t be the numbskull who tries to come and do 3 days in Vegas with $250 to spend. Those people are cancer and will always have a bad time.
