I live in the USA and have a relative who is an airline employee. She can get me very cheap flights to pretty much anywhere in the world (with the exception of Africa, Eastern Europe, most of Asia). I'm looking to travel in January/February and maybe live in a place/workaway for a bit. Where in the world would you go if you had the choice /trv/? Since it will be dead middle of winter here, somewhere warm would be preferred but it's not absolutely necessary. also i'm a mid-twenties male interested in music and the arts if that helps.
this map is quite dumb

I had a very similar poster ion my room in as a kid in the early 1980's. The main difference I remember was a dot in California where SF was labeled "Homos". My entire adult life has been going through a series of increasingly deep recessions borne of neo-liberal economic policies dismantling Keynesian checks on our economic system in the interest of concentrating wealth at the top of it. And for the average person that's worked out pretty badly. But it's been the overriding trend since 1980.

If I could go anywhere I'd go to Beirut. The safety issues put me off, but I can't think of a more interesting place. French influence, great food, cafe culture, historically relevant since history existed and cosmopolitan. Just a little dicey politically at the moment.

At the moment I want to go somewhere warm. Peru and Chile sound nice and I haven't been to South America. Any anons have thoughts on those countries? or anywhere else you would go in particular

I've heard the hiking's good in Peru and Chile, food not so much - Argentina's the place for food in South America if I can recall correctly. Don't really know much about the continent but as a general rule countries seem to be safer the further you get from the equator.
I also am going to have a travel pass for next year. I am planning my trips at this time.
As far as south America, I went to Brazil for Carnival one year and it was awesome. I was young and loved the party atmosphere, did the normal tourist stuff. Never got too far from Rio.
Went to Ecuador, one night in the city and then out to the Galapagos for fishing and eco-tourism. Very enjoyable. Food average, no night life.
Spent two weeks in Peru, saw lots of it. Lake Titicaca and floating islands, Cusco, all the Inca stuff of course. A couple of days in Lima, big city just like most.
All were good in their own way, just depends on your taste. I believe I will do some time in Argentina this year and maybe Columbia as well.
