depending on where you live your bank will do it for you and they give you the correct exchange rate. Better than exchanging at the shit kiosks anyway

I did it last year a few months before traveling because the Euro-Dollar were so close at the time.

I don't, because ATMs are pretty nearly universal now unless you wanna go innawoods somewhere, and I don't want to carry a bunch of cash around. To each his own, of course.
If I think about it, I might get $50 worth of local currency before traveling, just to have some local cash in my pocket .
I typically do it if the currency is offered by my bank.

Tried the one in JFK. wouldn't take it.
I would only do that if I were traveling in the future and I knew the current exchange rate was good.
I would recommend getting a credit card with no foreign transaction fees and charge as much stuff as possible while you are overseas or get an checking account/ATM card with no fees and taking out money as you go.
Depending if the location is largely cash based (such as Berlin or Tokyo), I will take cash out prior to the trip so I have money on me when I land.

What currency? I haven't travelled widely enough to find something that's unexchangeable.

Macedonian denars. I'm desperate enough I might list them on Craigslist at a low price.

Different guy, but my bank used to sneer at Colombian currency. They have since gotten over it.

Donate them to a charity for the tax write-off. Also for the lulz.

That's a pretty great idea.

I'm going to be really honest
Pretty much all the currency in that image looks like absolute shit except the US dollar
