What are the best places to visit in London? I want to explore the city not conventionally and I'm not attracted to the mainstream locations which everyone want's to visit. Does anyone have some suggestions?

What DOES interest you? What sort of things do you like doing? You doing this on the cheap or throwing money around?
Give us something to work with, you'll get better info.
If you're not into the mainstream attractions I sugest you visit slough instead. Lots of off the beaten path stuff there.
you could walk camden canal, from granary square to little venice

This is a really good walk in summer but absolutely dire in winter
I came here to post a similar thread, only I'm looking also for recommendations amongst the popular locations.
Also, markets (I've got Borough and Christmas markets in my sights, it being a November trip), and rare outlets for big brands I'm not likely to find elsewhere (eg. things like the M&Ms store, Nickelodeon, Nintendo, and so on). I love markets, and my friends'll want souvenirs.

You must be a sadist. Stock up on antidepressants

I hail from the second wettest city in the UK, with the first just around the corner. Also, I like Winter.

Swansea?
I was also going to ask OPs question, I like looking at old industrial buildings and also like the idea of seeing parts of London with jarring contrasts e.g. between old/new and rich/poor. could someone please recommend me some places to see these things? i mainly want to wander aimlessly around to find odd surprising things.

For old/new most of the City of London, you will find medieval right next to huge skyscrapers. If you want contrast between rich and poor visit Ladbroke Grove
>>1157678
If you genuinely want industrial building buy a day pass for the underground and visit some stations.

The East End is poor/immigrant heavy and is a medium/short walk from the modern business district in Canary Wharf
OP you're hopelessly vague.
>>1157678 Walk along the river for old/new. Honestly most of London has the rich/poor dichotomy now. There's flashy new developments everywhere. Hackney, Brixton, Ladbroke Grove would be decent starts.
