Sure, why not try to make friends? You may never see them again, but is that the end of the world? How many people do you keep up with from high school or even college? How about childhood friends? Chances are high that a large portion of those people you don't talk to anymore.

Also, with the advancing internet, its easy to keep up with at least with electronics.

And if you want to put it real long term, we all die alone anyways.

But in the end, it will likely teach you new things the more people you have a chance to talk with. Nothing wrong with learning about other people either.

After traveling enough I've started to just enjoy the moment I'm with the random new person and to just leave it at that unless there really is a true connection

Yeah, you can make short time friends in hostels and do fun things and have interesting conversations. Better than being alone sometimes.

IMO the much better thing is to meet local girls and have flings with them. You get a local tour guide and they're usually much more interesting than the backpacker types, who usually have very similar personalities. All of my real, lasting friendships from my travels started as flings.

Going without Facebook is actually pretty easy. I had to get rid of mine for a job and I thought it would be shitty, but I still keep in touch with everyone I want to keep in touch with via email. I'm also not subjected to bad memes and shitty writing that makes me lose respect for people.

I left that job and could've opened my account again but haven't. Email does the same thing with none of Zuckerbergs jewry.
