Where do you live? How much is it to rent a 1 bdrm apartment in your neighborhood?
>>

I live in San Francisco, California, USA. One bedrooms where I am average around $2500/mo., but it's embarrassingly easy to pay a lot more, and possible to find one for a bit less.

Several years ago you could get an entire apartment in the center of the city for around 300€/month warm. But now that all of the hippies starting pouring in and rapefugee invasion has begun you can't find even a shithole studio in the ghetto for under 800€/month and it's only getting higher and higher by the day.

My place is ~$1,100/mo for 1000 sq ft, nice lake view.

I live in Vancouver, Canada. I live in the suburbs, about 40 minutes by public transport from downtown/fun areas and it costs about $600 for a basement suite shared with another person, about $900 if it's just a 1 bedroom basement suite. If I wanted to live in an apartment nearby it would be around $1100 for a 1 bedroom.

On the other hand if I wanted to live in a decent area like downtown or Kitsilano (area with lots of restaurants, close to beach, close to entertainment) I'd be paying $1700+ for a 1 bedroom.
>>
Pasadena, 7 miles north of downtown L.A.

My 2 bedroom place is $2500. A one bedroom place is $1600. You can find cheaper and more expensive all around the city, but Pasadena is safe, quiet, clean, and easy to get around.

I stayed in an airbnb in Jersey City recently and it was a pretty nice 2br apartment on Vroom St (really close to the PATH train). The owner said it would cost about $1500 a month to rent which seems pretty good. It did have some roaches though, is that normal for Jersey City? lel
>>
>>1149359
Roaches are found in every large city, you avoid them by not living next to garbage or anything less than perfectly sterile (not possible in a densely populated area), having literally hermetically sealed living spaces (not possible with 100 year old housing stock), and pest control methods (this basically means poison)

Having a roach get inside every now and then is impossible to avoid

Having "some roaches" is usually a sign of landlord neglect
>>
>>1149363
>Having "some roaches" is usually a sign of landlord neglect

It was probably this. We basically saw a roach or two a day. I would hope that monthly fumigation would be free once someone lived there.
>>
>>1149368
You don't kill roaches with fumigation, you kill them with gels and bait traps

>>
In the USA there's a new hipster meme town every 5 years (Portland, Austin, Seattle) and every edgy 20something flocks down there and drives up rent. Wait 5 years, repeat the drill.

In Canada, our edgy hipster town has been Montreal for the past 400 years, and it's also the cheapest rent in Canada.

Just a friendly reminder
>>

>>1149599
The catch is youre living in a frpzen flyover state
>>
>>1149619
I've lived in Seattle, Houston and Philly and this is my favorite place. Better underground diy music scene (well, it rivals Seattle at least, better than the other two), filled with a good mix of college-aged people and lifelong residents (so not too many transplants, just enough to make ot interesting), amazing breadth of dining and drinking options, on lake michigan, has the grungy rust-belt vibe that I like, bike-friendly, people take life at a slower, more relaxing pace and are incredibly friendly, plenty of green space within the city and within an hour of some great state parks/forests (and chicago) and best of all, it's cheap af.

Cons are the extreme segregation and violence, WI politics, and asshats like you dismissing it as a flyover shithole. Which is probably for the best anyway, since it keeps our rent low.

Btw, Wisconsin winters are cozy af. Been here for 5 of them and I love it.

To be fair I could get a cheaper place in a location similar in terms of pub scene, traffic and distance from the centre.
But I would not say it is expensive or inadequate.
And indeed, it is a tourist or even ex-pat city. Prices are going up, but even in ten years the cost of living here will probably be laughable compared to west of here.
>>
>>1149669
Why do you let those people in your country? The only thing they want is cheap whores and drugs, they don't contribute to anything.
>>
700 euros in East Amsterdam...fucking expensive city.
>>
>>1149673
The tourists?
I don't care much for them ever since I stopped living near a big hotel and using the subway, but even then it was hardly a bother.
They contribute more than enough with their money. And most people who actually live here would really not hang out at the touristy places anyways, so I don't see why they should mind.
The ex-pats? These people usually work here so I fail to understand how they would be contributing less than anyone else here.
The rent is rising simply because more people want to live here and the actual interesting part of the city is not inflatable.
By the way, both the whores and drugs are great.

Westchester, New York.
In my town specifically, on the river, with transit to NYC that takes about 40-50 min, a 1 Bedroom apartment, after a quick search can run you anywhere from 1,500 to 3,000 a month, depending on a lot.

Seems like my town is gentrifying, fuck.
>>
>>1148561
Because the wages are relative.
If you can live off of 10K a year, you will earn an amount that reflects that. It's cheap because I'm assuming you're a Western European or American who finds that 20K is a low wage in many areas.
>>

You're aware that no sovereign debt is expected to be paid back in full, right? So long as the US churns out enough money to pay the interest on its loans we'll be fine. Will there be a wild dip? Not him, but here is my list of countries where you can live on 500 bucks a month, based ONLY on personal experience (>= 3 months spent on <=500 bucks) Living means you eat a balanced diet, rent a small flat and can afford to buy clothes, eat out from time to time etc.

1) Russia (excluding Moscow, St.Petersburg is borderline. Also avoid northern cities as cost of food is very high there)
2) Belarus (excluding Minsk)
3) Ukraine (excluding Kiev, please also stay away from the south, it's not safe at all)
4) Georgia
5) Hungary
6) Romania
7) Pakistan (do never go near Afghani border/Tribe zone, otherwise inshallah)
8) China (excluding large cities)

All shit countries, right? Well, you can also barely make it (although it will be really tough) on 500 bucks in
9) Spain
10) France
In the latter two it will be possible only n really rural areas and with severe limitations.
That's it. I know there are other places but I can't speak for what I haven't tried myself

I like Jacksonville. I think older people in Florida associate the city with pulp mills and heavy industry and haven't realized it's gotten alot nicer in the last few decades and the economy has diversified.

Anyway I live in Tallahassee, Florida. All the one bedroom apartments are shitty motel room style, it's easier to just get a two bedroom if you live on your own. I pay $800/mo for a 950 square foot 2 bed/2 bath townhouse built in the late 80's close to FSU. Lots of trees, the back patio and small backyard back up to a small wooded area for privacy, high celings, counter with a bar, parking for two cars in front, walking distance to FSU, stores, and two parks. Air conditioning of course since it's in Florida.

It's a cool city but it's not THAT cool. If I'm going to pay outrageous rent it would have to be be in NYC, San Francisco, or Boston for it to be worth it.

Very jealous of all of you. Especially Milwaukee as I've been there and know the city is sweet. Or some of those European cities have great rent rates but I know the accomodations have to be small.

In Boston, in a neighborhood a few miles outside downtown but still in city limits, you're talking $1300 min for a studio and probably $1500 for a proper 1br. Much more downtown.

Downtown San Francisco too
I think the absolute cheapest appartments start around $1200/mo, but I can see people paying 2500 in a decent neighborhood

The city is literally crumbling under my eyes and it doesn't feel good. Anything that the techies don't particularly care about is as good as trash and erased from the city. Shit, I give it 5 years before they outlaw Folsom Street Fair. There is absolutely no reason to live here if you don't work in a major tech company, and even if you do get ready for the hostile climate and the exploitative landlords.

My sis is off to Seattle, but Im not sure if I want to try those new "SF 2.0: You can (not) redo" overhyped cities. Anyone knows if Boston is cool for young people ? Montreal ?

I guess you mean the inner districts, including the first and a few of the really expensive areas, e.g., Spittelberg, Döbling,... I pay €650 for 1 bedroom/55 square meters (that's 592 in freedom units) in the 15th district, close to Stadthalle. It's not as good here as in the 7th or 9th, but I actually like it - easy access to public transportation and bars, clubs, restaurants in the 7th district and Gürtel area, plus a 10 minute walk to work.

I don't know. I see a discussion on wages has come up. I make a decent mid-tier wage for a person my age and education and skills and can say this apartmwnt is overkill for me, but the price and location are good and I can afford it on my own. I actually have a cool roommate so it's even cheaper so I have plenty of money do dick around. So yeah. As stated earlier, the US has a meme town every 5 years, it was Brooklyn, then Austin, then Portland, now it's shaping up to be Pittsburgh.

In Canada, Montreal will ALWAYS wear that crown and has done so since the '67 expo. It's got this funky bohemian anything-goes vibe. Very little policing and a very lax attitude towards public drinking/pot smoking. To be honest it's fucking lush man. Rent is also dirt cheap, (think 800 for a downtown 2 bedroom) and you can get a hotdog and fries for two bucks. Good clubs, hot chicks, legal touch dancing, pretty-much-legal prostitution, cheap beer, and 3 AM last call makes for a great city to live and work. They have the largest comedy festival in the world and the largest fireworks festival in North America. Oh, and they have a giant hippy drum circle called tam tam every Sunday on the mountain.

It's lush, mate. Go there.

They've got both automatic and manual scooters in SEA; easiest way to tell which is which from a distance is to look at the handlebars--if the bike has what look like two handbrakes, it's a manual (one is the actual handbrake for the front wheel, the other is the clutch). The newer and fancier the bike, the more likely it will be automatic, but it's not guaranteed.

In Thailand, where I drove a fancy scooter I got secondhand off of a friend, bikes without clutches are sometimes called girls' bikes, while manuals are referred to as boys' bikes. Was always a tiny bit embarrassing to me, since mine had no clutch.

Living in Jyväskylä in Central Finland. Population 135 000.

I pay 540€ (around $610) for a 27 sqm studio (290 sqft) and that includes water, parking and internet. The house and apartment I live in was built this year so it's brand new. It's a few kilometers from the city centre but you can get an older and worse (condition wise) apartment for around the same price but most buildings in the centre were built in the 60s so they're getting renovated and rents are on the rise constantly. The area I live in is popular among families with kids so it's peaceful. My neigbours fucking such though.

lol I know where you live. I went to UF though. Tallahassee is nice. Florida in general is nice except Tampa and Miami. Don't ever come to Alabama or Georgia they suck ass
>>

yeah, 7-800 private sector. i pay 460 for a 1 bedroom apartment, but it's social housing. the waiting list for that is currently 9 years.
>>
>>1156396
Why doesn't everyone live there if it's so cheap?
>>
Cambridge, UK

£875 per month for 2 bedroom flat ($1250)

Moved to Ely, Cambridgeshire, 12 miles outside of the city - £550 per month for 1 bedroom ($790)

Both less than an hour away from London.

Both massively overpriced.

mods ban this please

Well it's a legitimate question. If that guy isn't lying it's 3-4 times cheaper than SEA.

>>
>>1156588
I read it. Who cares about how poor the locals are? You can get more than that with a blog or a youtube channel or any kind of a passive income, NEETbux are 1.5k euro in most EU countries, so why doesn't everyone from the EU take their NEETbux and live there like a king of the world? You could probably buy people to serve you and do everything for you if you had 1.5k/month and you were from a real country like Finland or something.

Amsterdam 700p.m for a room

>>1156593
Indeed.
So why would Zagreb be any different from all the other cheap spots in the thread?
>>
>>1156612
Because it's apparently not only the cheapest, but no one lives there? Why don't digital nomads go live there instead of in the Philippines?
>>
>>1156613
Zagreb OP here. Because its not as pretty as Philippines, and because the living conditions in croatia are shit in general.

Plus, that 150-200 euros are for a 1 room flat, thought you can get a 2/3 room one for that money, but the bills would be higher.
>>
>>1156614
Why are living conditions shit if everything is so cheap?
>>
>>1156617
Again, because people don't make enough money.
Why is this so hard for you to understand

It's not a couple hundred digital nomads at most who are gonna make a difference.
>>
>>1156622
>Again, because people don't make enough money.
But obviously a foreigner will have enough money to make his living conditions good, so why are we even arguing about this? Life is shit for the locals in all cheap countries because they're too stupid to get an internet business or any international business going on.
>>
>>1156625
>Life is shit for the locals in all cheap countries because they're too stupid to get an internet business or any international business going on.
Right. We should all open our own businesses, and everything will be peachy. Why didn't i think of this before! You are a genius anon! If only i wasn't so stupid, all of my poverty would dissapear!

Truth be told, nothing in this country works the way it should, besides maybe tourism. The government is corrupt, the jobs are few and far inbetween, people with degrees are moving out because all they can find here is some 350 euro/month blue collar job, or perhaps a bartender job somewhere, both of which make you work 12+ hours a day for fuckall
>>
>>1156689
So why can't you just make a basic passive income internet site? Don't you have the internet? What's stopping you specifically?
>>
I live in Fairbanks, AK. Our place is is 775 a month, plus we pay water and electricity. Most places range from 800 to 1000 a month. I don't live in an apartment, I should mention. I live in a real house with a front and back yard, and a garage. It is just a small house.
>>
>>1156699
Nothing is stopping me personally, and i manage in terms of money, but you can't possibly expect to fix the economic state of the entire country by suggesting everyone opens their own website. There would be no poverty in the world if it was that simple.
>>
>>1156760
I don't give a shit about the country? I don't get what you're even talking about here, it's like you're replying to a person in your head.
>>
>>1156774
>Life is shit for the locals in all cheap countries because they're too stupid to get an internet business or any international business going on.

This was your logic. What i took from this is you think life would be better and the economic situation would be ideal if everyone had the brains to open their own business or a website.
My point was that there are much more factors to this.

You are like a broken record. Also,
>Why doesn't everyone live there if it's so cheap?
Why don't you? Same reason

Paris

Wimbledon in SW London. Pay just under £500 for a literal box room. Don't even have space for a wardrobe.

London is a meme

ALL the stores downtown and big business places speak English first, clerks in stores great you in English

The French don't live downtown but almost all of them speak English

There is not a single place in the city, grocery stores, banks, whatever where you cannot be served in English

Please don't speak about things you know nothing about.

All american movies are in their original versions, just like in the States

However the cheap places are far away, and the construction of the buildings is crappy, you get a huge fucking bill for heating, heating is never included (rarely I should say)

The summer is OK you can get anywhere in the city with a bike.

Shitloads of French QTs with no bras with big tits

Winter is absolutely brutal

The Canadian health system is fucked, but Montreal has the absolute worst reputation

Most Americans or Europeans that come here to study end up trying to live here permanently.

It's a 20 minutes drive to the border, 1 hour to the closest US City.

>yupsters from the GTA

There is an entire hood of them called Miles End, again you do not know what the fuck you are talking about.

I've been here for 35 years, but I will move elsewhere because of health issues and I cannot deal with the winters anymore.
