What made it so bad?

Athens.

Hot and boring concrete shit-hole. Practically every building and surface that isn't of historical interest is covered in graffiti and the city itself is ugly and horribly polluted. You can't see far from on top of the Acropolis because of smog.

There's nothing of interest to see outside of the Acropolis, Greek Museum, and handful of other attractions.

Massively overrated tourist destination.

I thought Casablanca was a dump. None of the cool architecture or bustling market feel of the other big cities in Morocco, and it smelled like poop everywhere
>>
Paris. The amount of immigrants in the city was staggering. It didn't even feel European never mind French. I'll never go back.
>>
>>1141434

Probably Singapore.

35-40C every single day and so humid it feels like 45. The city is clean because everywhere you look there's migrant workers from the indian subcontinent sweeping all day (they keep these guys in tiny shacks and dormitories hidden from the rest of the city).

This constant push for cleanliness seems to have stripped the place of its heart and soul, almost devoid of culture. And then a disgusting old chinese man will gob phlegm right next to you and you'll realise what a place of utter contradiction it is.

Talking of the residents, every single person i had the misfortune of interacting with was unfriendly and had a huge chip on their shoulder for some reason. It's as if they wanted to have an argument with you, that they thought themselves better than you because they lived in Singapore, even though i'm sure it's in a tiny one-room flat.

The underground metro system is cheap and efficient though. I was quite impressed. So long as you don't break your neck getting on the escalator with the speed they're set to.

Winnipeg, Canada

It was full of psychotic dirty natives who looked like they wanted to stab you. Night is the scariest thing on earth there. If you went downtown after sunset you had to move quickly or be attacked by sketchy natives asking for cigarettes and spare change, sometimes getting violent. Even in the day there is one okayish spot and even that is flooded with mouthwash drinking native crackheads.

Native canadians are a dead culture and the zombies are terrifying

I might get flack for this but I could not wait to get out of San Francisco. The streets were way too crowded and uncomfortable and everything was just too hustle and bustle everywhere I went.

Aside from a few japanese people, i don't think anyone dreams of romance in Paris these days. More like durka durka jihads with assault rifles; the bodies of frenchmen piling up on the streets.

drove through Colac in Australia like 15 years ago on family vaccation. We stayed at a motel. Place gave me a creepy feeling.
First thing I see when we enter town is a gunstore (i was like 9 and european, guns aren't a thing here).

Motel we stayed at was ok. Looked very 70s.
Local grocery store wasn't inviting at all, very boring and cold interior. There was a weird girl who followed us around inside, and outside she took off with a random shopping cart and almost crashed with her mom who was waiting outside for some reaosn? idk.

Later at the motel there was a crime documentary on tv, and we heard gunshots during the night.

Never really saw the town since we left in the morning.. so not sure if this really counts.
But it left a mark on me since I remember it so well all those years ago.

Jerusalem was probably not a good choice of destinations for you, then. I also recommend avoiding New York.
>>1141425
I didn't enjoy Sintra, Portugal much--read so much about its beauty, etc., but didn't expect it to feel so hollowed-out. It felt as though nobody lived there. Four or five semi-interesting buildings and a bunch of lousy tourist-garbage shops and restaurants. Felt like being in a theme park more than a town. We only figured out after we left that there's a modern town down the street where locals actually live.
>>
Not sure what the city is but those military check points in Mexico just freak me out

Really disliked Berlin. Most of the city depressed the hell out of me. Doesn't help that I also hate germans and the worst of them are concentrated in Berlin

Manila.

Filthy, constantly being harassed and the ever present feeling of being checked for valuables.

The place is a dive, if you ever fly into manila your first impressions are that you leave the airport and drive straight through a slum.

Never again.

Avignon, plus surrounding area. There's nothing to do except for visiting food markets and vineyards and it's a really unpleasant place to visit if you're not fluent in French, people will just randomly scream at you if you for some reason don't hear them or can't understand what they're saying.

Did you check out the Arab district? I had 2 days in Singapore on the way back from Japan and checked that place out, it was very nice and - even better - there were not many actual Arabs, it's mostly a historic title. I had amazing iced coffee there one morning, was pretty much the highlight of Singapore.

The museum was underwhelming after Tokyo's national museum thingo though, even though I thought that the plunders of the British Empire would be there lmao.

Haha rural Australia will do that to you, a lot of it's been transformed by tourism mostly from the cities so many areas are very nice.

Biggest shithole I've ever been through is Queenstown, Tasmania, seriously the most fucked and weird place I've ever been.

The entire surrounding landscape was cleared for timber and mining in like the 20s and because of a massive industrial furnace in the town, acid rain plagued the area for years, almost nothing has regrown since the soil's so chock-full of acid. Seriously, you go from the middle of some of the most beautiful temperate rainforest to basically lunar landscape.

But of course the mine has closed down, so basically everyone in the town's fucking unemployed, all my life in Australia I've never come as close to being actually jumped than I did in this town in the middle of the fucking day on a family holiday through the western wilderness. Like these groups of feral kids just roam the town with nothing to do, I was eating outside a fish and chip shop and they came up and started asking me some shit, I can't remember but I could tell I was in trouble, I think the owner thankfully told them to fuck off though. FUCK this place, was there for like an hour and the whole time I could hear these ferals screaming at each other from like a block away.

Not overly fond of cities, per se -- I see what I want to see in one, then get out into the country and small towns and natural stuff.

That said,I can;t think of a city I particularly hated. Edinburgh is, I think, over rated and I'd skip it if I went back to Scotland. Abu Dhabi was worth seeing once, but I would not bother to go back in the unlikely event I get back to the UAE. Other than the big festival during Golden Week, I would not see much reason to go to Hamamatsu, though the festival is amazing, especially if you can get hooked up with some of the neighborhood street parties

Not really a city as much as it is a bunch of trailers and a youth correction centre but Tuba City, Arizona is one of the poorest and most depressing places in the world that I've been to, especially as it contrasts so heavily with the sterile and pointless opulence of Phoenix (not that Phoenix isnt hell in its own way)

Dubai/Abu Dhabi. Least interesting spot on the planet., least interesting people on the planet. Everything is new and fake.

Grozny, went there 1 week for work. It stinks. Super rich oligarch and mafioso on one side, opressed poor muslims on the other side.

Miami. In one word : superficial.

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Dirty, dusty and boring. Spread out and lacks any coherence or feel too it. Chaotic traffic and no pedestrian areas, most places dont even have sidewalks.

Paris has always been full of poor blacks and muslims since the 60s.
People ranting about what 'it has become' have no idea what paris looked like in its belle epoque golden years.

New york and London are way less white anyway but no one ever complains about that, why? Or maybe you do too.
Watching woody allen and 'big apple sitcoms' and expecting everything to be manhattan like, all glossy and sexy and sleek, full of elegance and culture and opportunity is fucking immature.

Consider the fact that the Londoner living in belgravia hates the middle class prole who can only window shop that lifestyle while he's staying at cheapo generator hostel just as much as the homeless dude begging for beer money.

All of the middle class are brainwashed into hypocrisy.
The fact is, Parisian luxury real estate mostly belongs to the 0.01% from qatar, dubai, libya, ivory coast, and african ormer colonies. Just like chinese took over vancouver luxury RE. But the rich brown people being wealthier than you poor occidental envious fucks ruins the narrative of brown=poor/white=rich so I never hear you talk about this.

Wealthy darkies and their dictator corrupt blood money, their lucked up oil fortunes, laugh at you fucks all the way to the bank joining along the corrupt chinese 1%, the post-soviet oligarch, and the undeserving inherited white entitled global elites.

Paris would be a shithole without foreign dirty capital from the (former) 3rd world.

>Watching woody allen and 'big apple sitcoms' and expecting everything to be manhattan like, all glossy and sexy and sleek, full of elegance and culture and opportunity is fucking immature

There wasn't much elegant and sleek about Woody Allen's Manhattan. Everything looked like shit. The real Manhattan is much better.
>>
>>1143723

So how many luxury apartments do the nogs pushing Eiffel tower keyrings or scamming Chinese tourists with the bracelet trick own?

How many bugattis do the Bulgarian gypsies rifling through your pockets on the metro own?

How much does the rucksack wearing muslim about to detonate in the Gare du Nord after beheading the local bishop contribute to the economy?

Nowhere really stands out for me - I've never been anywhere I've straight up hated...

Delhi is filthy, busy and full of packs of dogs at night. Auckland has traffic as bad as anywhere. Beijing is a disjointed, grey, dusty, concrete shithole with a harsh climate. Colombo is draining after a few days. Phnom Penh is basic as fuck. Singapore's too sanitised but it's a great city, probably the most cosmopolitan place I've been in Asia.

LOL. Gringo detected. American born Filipino here and Manila was perfectly fine. That being said, it may be overwhelming for white tourists to travel to Manila. Why not, next time you get a guide? Learn some more? Every city has its slums, and Manila is no different.

You really can't drive from the airport to your hotel without driving through the slums/seeing squatters. They are camped out under the highway, on the side of the street, and in every small roadway. Unless you look like a white tourist and smell like money, you won't be harassed.

It is filthy but there are nice parts in Quezon City/richer areas.

For your 3 week trip, enjoy. Don't be too white. Get a tan, grow your beard.

Cebu City, Philippines. A seething cesspit of poverty, squalor & degeneracy. Buildings in various stages of decomposition / decay crammed full of desperately poor locals, pot-holed rods snarled with traffic (no highways or railways), keen-eyed criminals lurking in the shadows ready to pounce on any wayward tourist who takes a wrong turn out of the downtown shopping / hotel district. It's dangerous*, depressing & there isn't much to do besides escape to Bohol or Panglao, or gamble at the (surprisingly well appointed) casino, or fuck local women for cheap.

* I last visited 10yrs ago so the situation may have improved, perhaps moreso since Dirty Harry took over.
>>
>>1141442

Sterile & soulless, yes, and the modern day slavery racket they run on the curry munchers is deplorable, but surely it must be better for them than whatever filthy shithole they call home back in Bangladesh/India.

The ridiculous price of alcohol served in a bar/restaurant is also a major detractor, as is their ridiculous officiousness and penchant for spelling out rules at every fucking opportunity.

The one redeeming quality is the disgustingly hot women you can see on Orchard Rd & surrounds. Nowhere else in Asia have I seen such a concentration of sexy girls.

Western world: Milan, Italy. Garbage and graffiti everywhere (and yes, Athens is far worse in those respects, but it at least has cool history and some natural beauty. Milan has none). Worst major European city, IMO.

Adding to the votes for Manila. I had a local girl show me around and literally all there was to see was the fucking shopping malls. That's where everyone hangs out. The whole city has ridiculous traffic, such that it basically forces you to stay in a small area. The only redeeming factor to the city was the easy local girls but there are plenty of better places for that. Cebu is much, much better.

As far as places that aren't on every traveler's shitlist, I'd say Shanghai. Everything is an immense hassle there, it's ridiculously overpriced, and so many of the locals are horribly rude and entitled. I spent a week there and ended up giving up on mainland China and fleeing to Taiwan after, which I fucking LOVED.

I've travelled to many cities around the world, and despite the obvious shortcomings of third-world cities, I find Singapore to the be least enjoyable place on earth. It is modern and clean, but somehow they managed to brainwash an entire country to suck the cock of an authoritarian regime hell bent on making life dull, boring and stable, the worst part is that people seem to be fine with that. There is nothing fun or even remotely noteworthy about Singapore.

Honourable mentions:
Siam Reap - too many disfigured amputee beggars - this is the US's fault

Every city in Italy - one can't shake the feeling that Italians just don't give a shit about keeping their country clean, they are unsafe and inconsiderate drivers, they litter their own beaches and their restaurants suck

Maybe it depends why you go to Singapore? I just went there and was interested in it mostly for its historical significance, so spent a lot of time seeing ww2 stuff and also Pulau Ubin (indigenous Malay area). Both things were good, and on my quest to see them I got to see a lot of the city which was enjoyable.

It's really nothing like it at all in terms of how it feels to a tourist. Yes, people in both can speak mandarin, and they have lots of shared dishes, but there wasn't much other overlap culturally. Taiwanese were incredibly friendly and polite, Taipei is a very liveable city full of parks, everything works as it should in a 1st world country. And everyone seemed to more or less speak basic English in Taipei so getting around was easy. Oh and the girls were the cutest I've seen in any Asian country by far.

Basically I'd call China a 2nd world country where people in large cities also have a major attitude problem, and Taiwan is just like a regular 1st world country where people are also abnormally friendly.

5 was in defence of the ethnic diversity in Paris. His point was that it's been like that for a long time and that romanticising "what Paris used to be" was stupid.

>>
>>1147476
it's not a lie though, all genocide happens for a reason, as you said, some dominicans were mad at black haitians due to reasons, so in return, massacres. stating the pretext for the massacre doesn't make it a lie to say the massacre happened.

It's ironic that you should say that to me, an american living with dominican immigrants in the apartment below, the apartment above, and both apartments on the same floor as me. if I had a problem with dominicans I wouldn't live among them, and you're the ones coming to my country so calm down.

I've got no connection to haiti, I'm just interested in the history of the DR, and also the tits and asses of the DR
>>
>>1147488
The massacre goes way deeper than simple hatred or racism, haitians were settling in our side of the island, stealing cattle and such from the poor dominican campesinos that lived in the border.

>For some months, I have traveled and traversed the border in every sense of the word. I have seen, investigated, and inquired about the needs of the population. To the Dominicans who were complaining of the depredations by Haitians living among them, thefts of cattle, provisions, fruits, etc., and were thus prevented from enjoying in peace the products of their labor, I have responded, 'I will fix this.' And we have already begun to remedy the situation. Three hundred Haitians are now dead in Bánica. This remedy will continue

>Due to inadequate roadways connecting the borderlands to major cities, "Communication with Dominican markets was so limited that the small commercial surplus of the frontier slowly moved toward Haiti."[18] This threatened Trujillo's regime because of long-standing border disputes between the two nations. If large numbers of Haitian immigrants began to occupy the less densely populated Dominican borderlands, the Haitian government might try to make a case for claiming Dominican land. Additionally, loose borders let contraband pass freely, and without taxes between nations, depriving the Dominican Republic of tariff revenue.

>Furthermore, the Dominican government saw the loose borderlands as a liability in terms of possible formation of revolutionary groups that could flee across the border with ease, while at the same time amassing weapons and followers.

Budapest. The city itself might have been the most beautiful I've been to, but because the citizens of Budapest are such vermin I'm not in a rush to visit Budapest again

I didn't feel safe because there were drunk shirtless gypsies on the main streets shouting at each other. I had beggars approach me quite often. Native Hungarians are rude and ugly; they wear tacky fashion styles people in the West left behind in the 2000s and have the most disgusting tattoos I've ever seen. No one is nice to you if you can't speak Hungarian

Now, some might say "oh well that's just standard for a European city." Well, I was in Vienna that same summer and even with the fact that Vienna has a lot more immigrants from backwards Muslamic nations, I didn't pick up an ugly feeling from the people who lived there. Everyone could speak English and was happy to speak to you in English. The city made me feel safe enough to walk to my room drunk at 2am, which was not the case in Budapest

We colonized Maghreb and West Africa, and the thugs whose parents comes from these countries are still shitholes for the most parts.
What would you do if you were living there, be able to speak a little French and had enough money to move out of there ? Emigrate in France of course, one of the richest country in the world.
The thing is that poor Le Corbusier copycats and urban planners in the 60s constructed isolated suburbs for working-class people/emigrants instead of mixing them with middle-class people downtown. Those buildings became shittier and shittier as time went on.
I could go on and would be more precise if I were a serious sociologist or something, but this problem has affected Paris more than any other city in France (2 millions living intra-muros vs. 12 millions counting the suburbs).
Combine that with the fact that Paris is way more expensive than other cities, and the fact that high criminality there was always a thing since the 19th century, and you get loads of loitering thugs, pickpockets, etc.
Marseille excepted, Lyon and other sizable French cities are quite safer (and way more cheap).

Tijuana was probably the worst

I also can't remember what city it was but when I was on a Mexican cruise I woke up one morning in a new port town

When I looked out from the balcony, the water below was an off putting green, it almost looked like we docked in a swamp and off in the distance I could see a Walmart, I opened the balcony door and was hit with a hot, horrible smelling air, I don't think I got off the ship in that port

Mexico is a pile of dung and I will never return

New York is the biggest shithole I've ever seen. You couldn't pay me enough to live there. When I hear people (who have never been there) talking about living in NY because they saw it in the movies and they think it would be like some romantic comedy a la Sex and the City, I can't help but laugh.

Why does anyone displeased with a country's city being filled to the brim with people not of that country have to be from stormfront or /pol/? If I go to a European city I want to see Europeans living there, not Arabs or Africans

Paris.

Went in with low expectations, but honestly outside of the gallery's and museums (and maybe a few tourist traps like the Eiffel tower) it's complete garbage. Overpriced, hustlers everywhere, political situation in France right now means that more often then now there's garbage everywhere, did I mention overpriced because Jesus christ, and I hate to sound /pol/ but the number of sleeping rough refugees within sight of my hotel was considerable.

All in all, pretty bad. Not reflective of France, but really negative experience.

Depends on where the rest of your trip takes you. Personally, I think its pretty easy to avoid to ignore the people trying to scam you. Just don't acknowledge their existence and keep your valuables in your front pockets.

Paris - there will be loads of brown people trying to sell you trinkets and wine near the Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur, and the Lock Bridge. (Do not under any circumstance by the wine/beer from them. Ive seen them fill up some bottles from the sewer.)

You could spend a couple days in Paris to say you've seen the major attractions and then head to Bruges in Belgium. Its a fantastic city.

I dont know what all the hate is about Amsterdam, I personally love the city. Just walking around the canals and looking at the boats and buildings is amazing. Don't pass up the flower market.

Berlin is another city I don't understand all the hate for. It is most certainly more modern than the most of other European cities because it was all almost destroyed. But between the East Berlin Wall Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie museum, Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral, Berlin Zoo, Potsdam its worth it. It also has a good night club scene from what I experienced.

I think its all about being able to mentally just avoid the beggars and scam artists.
>>
>>1153506
I'm a bit of a euroboo but I think this bears repeating

here in america any decent cook or confectionary dude can basically start his own business. almost every city has a few really good places you can go and get anything you want amde by hand.

hell, they even have these places in 3rd tier asian cities now.

of course, europeans don't have the right to start a business, kek. their brands have prestige and history, and many people mistake that for quality.
>>
I agree with Singapore. Expensive beer and no fucking character. Most people I met there seemed stuck up. And also the Indian slave thing. That said, its safe clean and the metro is nice.

I actually liked Manila a little bit, but I was expecting it to be super shitty. So I had a positive surprise whereas Singapore surprised me in a negative way.

Hong Kong is a bit like Singapore but dirtier and bunch of rude Chinese but at least it got character.

Singapore, hands down.

>I really dont gey why people love bangkok so much.

Cheap Bars and good cheap food everywhere (street and more stylish restaurants. Lots of little hipster art shops, cafe's etc. Also quite a lot of good clubs and cocktail bars. The nightlife extends far beyond sukhumvit hooker bars and "Irish pubs".

All the more shit after visiting Stockholm which is

>clean as fuck for a big city
>one of the nicest metros Ive seen
>tons of shit to do between museums and historical sites within the city
>the whole city's architecture is gorgeous as opposed to just one street

Amsterdam
Everything I hate about Europe supercondensed

Alternatively, any of the newer cities in Turkey, because they're just endless prefab concrete apartment buildings
>>
>>1155408
Which is?

But let me guess, you haven't left the Red Light District and think Amsterdam is only about drugs and hookers. Totally oblivious to the fact you're walking in the one of the best preserved historic city centers in (Western) Europe with a unique history that can be seen, touched, found and experienced on almost every corner.
>>
In the western world it's Milan. I've lived here for two years and can't get over how soul-sucking this place makes you feel. Haven't been to Brussels though which I've heard can be worse.

Asia: Patna. Not that any tourist would ever go there except to go to Bodh Gaya. The amount of extreme overcrowding and poverty is frightening to people raised first or even second-world.

>>
>>1155414
Because every time I was there everyone came across obnoxious and constantly trying to flaunt and flex, be they other shithead American tourists, oil princes, backpackers, or the breed of distilled and refined turboeurofag. I actually never went to the Red Light District. In fact, I was underage and with my family every time I visited, but the drugs and hookers are in your face all of the time, because nobody every shuts the fuck up about them. I admit I am biased, because these family summer day trips up from the suburbs of The Hague were almost always a stressful, expensive nightmare. Compared to the much more relaxed and "authentic" experiences I got in places like The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht, Haarlem, Enkhuizen, Delft, really everywhere else I went in the Netherlands Amsterdam fucking sucked

The town of Hilo, HI didn't impress me. Kona was nice, but overall I didn't like the big island as much as the other islands. The non-town parts of the Hilo region were nice, I'm talking just about the town.

Basically like any city's downtown area except hotter. The beaches aren't very swimmable on that side. Also we saw some homeless lady's dog die, and my dog of the same breed had died recently, so that bummed me out.

Brussels is extremely dirty, smells of piss, has shit public transport, Arabs trying to sell you drugs then when you refuse asking you to pay for their breakfast, literally nothing in the way of nightlife, no attractions beyond one square.

Seriously, I thought I'd accidentally booked a hostel in the ghetto then after walking up the road for a minute I was where they had all the tributes to the attacks and round the corner was the cathedral. Every shop sign was in Arabic and gangs of about 50 were all congregated around the table tennis tables

Corte Madera, a little town near SF California. Pretty little shithole infested with new rich and their horrible children. Had a Starbucks clerk audibly sneer at me and my wife for wearing t-shirts and jeans. I think the most telling part was the way the service industry people reacted to us, giving them standard human dignity always resulted in big surprised smiles.

The whole Silicon valley is littered with new rich trash, but that place it was literally everybody except the janitors.
