>buy tickets for week in Istanbul with gf three weeks ago
>shtf in Turkey
Should I cancel? Flight leaves in two weeks...
>>1139204
I'd say you watch it pan out for a week, a week and a half, then decide. Until when can you cancel and get your money back?
>>1139207
Up to five days before hand
Too dangerous, it wont be stable for a while i think, just cancel it man, not worth your life
>>1139218
The coup might blow over in a couple of days if unsuccesful, but even if it might seem stabilized I wouldn't go near Turkey for quite a while since they're dealing with terrorists on top of everything else and they might take advantage of the situation.
>>1139218
Watch what happens, nobody knows how this is going to play out.
Decide a week beforehand if you're going to go. Confer with your GF: it's possible she is more worried about this than you are.
>>1139219
>>1139220
Thanks for the advice, I'm leaning towards bailing out anyways.
>>1139222
She says she thinks the military will keep things under control, but she's a liberal arts major...
>>1139223
Tbh I dont see it being a problem if you just plan to go somewhere else. At least dont spend several days in the inner city. Why not take some bus into a town or soemthing. If shit hits the fan Im sure you can rearrange a plane home or somewhere civilized. :^)
Also liberal art major. She better be hot.
Dont bail.
>>1139223
The military can't even enforce their curfew and one of their choppers have reportedly been shot down.
I wouldn't trust them to control a fucking nightclub, just look at the riots already.
>>1139227
Damn, that's a badass doggo. I only have woman-eating cats to offer you.
>>1139223
Depending on the price of your tickets (I'm getting the vibe you're American, for some reason), wait a while. I won't tell you to go regardless, as coups tend to be more protracted and messy than terrorist attacks, but I won't encourage you to bail either.
However, if you've bought €50 Vueling tickets, eh, your call, really.
>>1139227
Oh, she is.
>>1139229
Shit like that makes me nervous. I really hope things settle down asap.
>>1139232
>you're American
US Virgin Islands, so yeah. How'd you know?
>>1139234
Not him, but 'liberal arts major' was the give-away for me.
Anyway, I personally wouldn't go even if things seem fine in a week, but that's just me being a pussy.
>>1139204
Yeah. You should wait for a peaceful, safe time period in a Muslim country.
>>1139204
I'd assume a stance of "watchful waiting" for day or two, it may resolve quickly, or it may not.
One thing I'd do is contact your airline, see what your options are and what any deadlines might be.
>>1139236
The murder rate in USVI is 52.6 (per 10k), try comparing that to the 2.6 of Turkey :^)
>1139235
Ah. Fair enough. What's the equivalent of a lib. art major in Yuroland?
>>1139236
Qatar is pretty normie.
>>1139237
Yep, that's the idea.
>>1139241
>mfw
Coup failed, now I can finally go to sleep.
Military coups are a traditional Turkish pastime, there's really nothing to worry about.
>>1139234
>How'd you know?
Ayyyy, my radar's still up to snuff. It was the pika-picture you uploaded, the liberal arts stuff was an added bonus.
Tell us about the US Virgin Islands, OP. This subject has run its course.

I honestly think you'll be fine.
The coup was a total joke. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but a lot of my Turkish friends in Istanbul and Ankara said they suspected it was all a cunning power play by Erdogan to consolidate his power and take an opportunity to get rid of his enemies across the board. He gave people a chance to play hero for him against a force that wasn't willing to slaughter innocents.
The AKP called a fucking jihad against the coup, for God's sake. The "brave, pro-democracy protesters" were streaming down bridges screaming allahu akbar.
Anyway, I was in Turkey during and after the 2013 Gezi Park protests. Not as destructive on a military scale, but there were way more people and police involved. It was fine. Just avoid any big demonstrations when you go there and don't talk about politics with strangers unless they seem to want a rational and level-headed debate.
>friend's getting married today
>honeymoon's in istanbul
wah-wah.
>>1139460
Go back to /pol/, Tyrone, be careful not to get shot on the way.
>>1139204
I see this as a unique once in a lifetime experience. It could be so much interesting. And the constant anxiety of a suicide bomber. You will always remember it. The whole country is in a completely different state. Anyway gogogo. Dont be a wuss
Welp you can't go anymore. Erdogan is not allowing US citizens to travel to Turkey unless America gives back Fethullah.
>>1139760
The ban is from the US side. They don't allow flights to or from Turkey
