Absolutely feasible. Kazakhstan is not a barren desert, there are lots of trains crossing it.
Instead of going through Singapore, the better option is to use Malaysia - Sumatra ferry link from Malacca. There are no ferries from Batam, just the long-distance Pelni ships that are infrequent, slow and uncomfortable.

I think I will return by airplne once the "mission" is accomplished. I would also like to visit Australia, but there are no regular ferries from Southeast Asia
