I spent a few months outside of Leon and a month on little corn island. Both were cool as fuck. Nicaraguans are very nice people and I never felt unsafe. I even hitchhiked a few times and the people I rode with refused to take money or even let me buy them a beer or soda.

I was in Managua with my gf and we went to get off at a bus stop to transfer. A nice old grandpa told us to get back on the bus, it was too dangerous to stop and wait there.

Rose a chicken bus from Managua to El Rama, caught a freight barge from there to Big Corn. Fucking ruled. It was Easter weekend so the boat was crammed full of people literally everywhere. I made a bed on a pallet of rice or something and got drunk on flor de Cana.


Anyone with the most basic of street smarts will be fine.
