there has to be some town where the ethnic minority and immigrant population gathers, that's usually where you get the non native but cheaper food. I don't mean the business district with o'charleys either.
So, I wanted to rent a car in August, from London to Edinburgh (and drop it there) for 5 days for two people.
I've looked at reviews on google maps where I could get a car in London, and every place looks so bad. What is up with this ? Is car renting in UK so bad ? Maybe people just complain for nothing ?
I am more afraid to be ripped off with hidden fees then waiting for long to get the car or having to face rude staff.
I think more and more to abandon the idea to rent a car and just take trains between the cities I wanted to visit.
What do you think about renting a car ?
how about I rent ur mum
What kind of "odd jobs" do travelers do under the table when on a travelers visa?
I'll leave for a long ass trip abroad next month and I want to know what to do if I run out of cash
>Inb4 prostitution

>I'll leave for a long ass trip abroad next month and I want to know what to do if I run out of cash
Never had to take odd jobs overseas but if I did I would hit up craigslist and work some day job. Usually just do a set amount of cash taken out per day and go through that to limit myself while saving the leftover X amount for another day
What are some countries with great forests/woods? I have such a hard on for forests, even when I was young, I loved exploring them.
Eastern Europe looks good at the moment, as well as PNW, Oregon and Washington for example.
Being able to rent a cabin close to or in the woods would be the idle long vacation for me
Yeah, Romania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine are good bets. Not sure how feasible renting a cabin is though.

Scotland and to a lesser extent England and Wales have the nicest forests on Earth. You can't go wrong with Scotland but the New Forest in England is geared up for tourists but you do pay a premium
>>1270366
Looking at the New Forest on google maps it looks like the shittiest forest on earth.
But if you say the atmosphere is nice, I'll accept that.
Excluding North America, New Zealand is my top country for forests. It's a shame it's a bit of a monoculture -- just two subspecies of beech tree as far as the eye can see -- but it's true wilderness, and you can find more diverse tropical forest on the north island.
Hawaii has awesome, extensive forests, speaking of the tropics.
Spain has a great selection of forests to match its climatic diversity. Hardwood in the north, Mediterranean oak in the south.
How many Anons here have served in the Navy and traveled while under service? Share some stories about it, and if you've traveled after your service, what were the major differences between the experiences?

Not American, but I presume it wouldn't be a problem so long as you don't go to a hostile country.

If you are on ship, long times at sea for a few days in port, but you typiclaly end up seeing quite a few countries. If you are lucky you will be and based abroad, or your ship will be ported at foreign country for an extended amount of time, where they will pay you to live out in town in a foreign country.
The one thing that sucks about being in the military and taking foreign leave, if you do it properly, is you have to get permission from the theater combatant commander and the embassy in that country to visit, which includes some pre travel training, and some countries, or areas of a country may be restricted.
I am currently in the Navy, Stationed in Japan. The results may vary when it comes to the amount of countries you see. You could be on a ship that pulls in a lot or on a ship that pulls in very little. I have been to 3 countries and Guam in my 2 years here but I have friends that have been to 6 countries and they have been here only a year. Furthermore, Port visits are fun but its not my favorite way to travel due to curfew, only certain places your allowed to go, you might have to work during the day, you need a buddy at all time, etc. They do have tours that come to your ship though which I do. If I only have 3 days to see a country its the best way to do it. Most guys sadly look through a bar window.
Anyone have any ideas for what to do in Banff? Any Banff natives here with recommendations?
>>1270199
Drive the Icefield Parkway
Drive the Bow Valley Parkway
Hike Johnston Canyon
Take the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain
Take the Jasper Tramway up Whistler Mountain
Go to Moraine Lake
Go to Lake Louise
Go to the Banff Hot Springs
Go to the Hot Springs historic site
Drive through Kootenay to Radium Hot Springs
Hike Marble Canyon
Hike Athabasca Falls and maybe Sunwapta Falls
If you're in Jasper anyway hike Malign Canyon and take a boat on Maligne Lake
>>1270199

Oh, almost forgot, go to Athabasca Glacier on the Colombia Icefields.
I'll be taking a trip to Bulgaria in September. Anybody up for showing me around for a short time and giving me a push in the right direction to meet a nice Bulgarian woman?
>>1270192
Go here for Bulgaria stuff:
>>1265045
>Anybody up for showing me around for a short time
If I'm in Sofia I'd love to.
>right direction to meet a nice Bulgarian woman?
Unless you're from 1 of the 4 acceptable nations, then no.
>>1270246
Ok thanks, you a guy or grill?
Tell me more about these accepted nations?
I'm planning a long distance road trip through north/eastern Europe this autumn/winter
I don't currently have a car but I'll buy one for the trip
Plan is buy in UK (I live here), and go Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Ukraine/Belarus maybe, Baltic countries, St Petersburg, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, home
Anyone done anything like this before?
Mostly I'm after recommendations for a vehicle suitable. Cheap is obviously better but open to all suggestions. Advice on route also welcome.
>>1270081
No drivers license so no advice.
But I live in Amsterdam and want to go to Prague and then do a tour of Poland in autum/winter.
What are you interested in when touring?
Just the driving and nature stuff or do you plan on visiting allot of towns and citys inbetween?
My brother, who is 17, is planning on traveling by plane in a few days asked if he'll get through security check if he has a pack of cigarettes in his on-board luggage. In the EU.
Where does he come from and where does he go? Usually it shouldn't be a problem, but if he gets to shitty custom employees in a country where he's not allowed to smoke at 17, they could take them away from him. Better have more packs in the real luggage. But I never had problems with snus in my carry-on, and this shit is prohibited in most EU states.
>>1270060
From Riga airport to East Midlands
So they'll just take it away and I can carry on without it or will they take me in?
Anyone traveled to Nicaragua lately ?
I want to take my camper van down there and camp and fish on the beach.
Anyone done this or al least have info on the country ?
>>1269994
Guate fag here. The beaches are shit, but better than Guatemala at least. It can be dangerous like any other 3rd world country so stick to touristy places if you can.
Also, the hammocks from there are awesome.
>>1270018
I spent last winter in mexico fishing.
Is it more dangerous than that?
I dont need pretty beaches just good shore fishing and a place to camp
Working class poor fag, wanting to take my boyfriend skiing/snowboarding for his b-day in november. Budget is preferably under US$2000. In intercontinental US. Any suggestions on places that are cheaper, less popular, but still fun and beautiful? We're from Texas. Neither of us have really been skiing b4 so no need for some pro, bad ass, black diamond slopes, mostly going to be falling on our asses anyway. Hence hoping for somewhere close to a snowmobile tour. Thanks!
in november? nothing is planned to open that early outside alaska
even the northern hills in canada don't open until december
Hey \trv\. Going on vacation to visit the parental units. Leaving Nov 17 and returning Nov 27. From PSC to JFK. Does anyone know of any good sites for cheap tickets? Priceline has it at $925 and up; same with other sites. Wot do?
>>1269945
That's pretty cheap
>>1269945
Try flying from a larger airport.
Drive to Seattle.
I'm starting uni soon, I have an opportunity to leave 2 week somewhere. I'm looking for a great experience but I have no plan or idea about what to do. I'm in great shape so this is not a limitation (For hiking or other activities). I live in Canada. Do you have any recommendation ?
This is so little information to go on
What's your budget?
Do you have a passport or are you just looking for shit to do in Canada?
What do you like to do for activities?
>>1269930
Budget of 1200 $
I have a passport
It can be a backpack travel, hiking trip, visiting, adventure.
>>1269957
1,200 is not a lot considering a plane ticket anywhere off the continent will be at least 600.
So if you stayed in hostels for the 2 weeks and paid 10 dollars a night you'd be down another 140.
Then there's food and expensives you wouldn't expect.
Then you'd need to get around taxis are kind of expensive and to get around to nature areas outside of the city would be even more pricy.
I guess i'd recommend somewhere in south east asia. Thailand or something, everything's cheaper in SEA.
Where do you want to go tho OP? Where do you have in mind?
ITT: post your favorite photos that you took in your journeys
>>1269820
this one I think, shot in Montenegro
Iguazu, Brazil
Ha Giang
Those who have been in Manila or the Philippines; would you spend a grand to stay there for a month? What are your experiences and thoughts on it?
>>1269749
Spend a grand on on accommodation or accommodation + everything else?
It's okay when you stay in The Fort and there are loads of horny pinays on Tinder.
I wouldn't just stay in Manila, it's better to travel around and enjoy the beautiful islands.
>>1270070
A grand for everything. I'm talking in pounds so maybe jump to $1200
