I have 10k saved up ,possibly 12k if I sell some of my stuff. Is this enough to backpack SEA(3 months) , Australia (1 month), and South America (2 months).

>>
Where you planning on travelling in SEA ?
>>
>>1044699
Indonesia, Thailand, Laos , Cambodia, Vietnam, and a Malaysia just to see Singapore for a day.
>>
>>1044696
For the full trip? Unless you want to go full hobo mode, no.

Airfare will be in the 3-4k region at least even if you get all flights as super saver specials.
SEA about $25 per day (2250), Australia $50 per day (1500), South America $35 per day (2100) is what you need for hostel, mostly cook your own meals, no/tiny amounts of alcohol, non smoker, minimal public transport/taxi use and maybe going out every other week once.

so
3000
+2250
+1500
+2100
= 8850
add some other stuff you will need like:
a taxi, long train rides, travel insurance, visa fees, doing some crazy stuff, entrance fees, replacement of lost damaged gear/cloths you want about$100 per week.

A healthy reserve of at least $1500 cash for emergencies (just to get home if needed, get a passport replaced, if you get robbed not be fully fucked till your insurance sends some money, and banks can shut down in SEA and South America without notice, so you want cash)

Hello, anyone have experience traveling in Indonesia? I will be flying into Jakarta for 20 days in January. I wanted to spend a few days in Jakarta at least and explore the city. The Jakarta surrounding area too like Bogor and Bandung.

I was thinking of taking a train to Yogyakarta to see the temples and exploring more of Java.

Does anyone recommend anything I must do/see while there? Or any other destinations?

Also, from your experience how safe is Jakarta and other places in Indonesia for a solo traveler. I have read its overall a safe place, but petty crime is common.

It's my favorite country.
Went twice so far.
2 years ago for 10 months in total.
This August I revisited for a trip across Sumatra
>9 living in Jakarta, with trips to Lampung, Yogja
>1 month doing the Bali, Lombok, Gili T thing.
Recommendations:
>Definitely go to Yogja for Borobudhur & Prambanan
>Climb a Volcano, I went to Krakatau & Prambanan
>Go to Pangandaran for Green Canyon, canyoning there was so awesome I did it twice in those 9 months.
>Near Bogor is Puncak, hilly area with a natural park, paragliding and the like.
>Mount Bromo is touristy but great to see.

What's the most remote place you've ever been to?

Personally I'd have to say Pyramiden, Svalbard at 78 degrees north. Pic related.
Would love to visit Bear Island and Kerguelen Island some day.

I'd like to visit Kerguelen too one day, too bad the price for a return trip costs as much as a trip around the world + more.

I'm doing geology at university, im hoping at some point ill do a research project on igneous rocks and get to go there with research grants.

Someone here has made the Mexico - Japan Travel, i want to do it next year, i need advice.

where are you from?
and you want to go to mexico and explore then go to japan and explore?

or you just mean how to get from mexico to japan in the cheapest and best way?
>>
>>1044313
You phrase it an odd kind of way.

>>

>40000 en 10 dias

not OP but I just booked my tickets for New Years, about 10 days, what do you spend 40000 pesos on? I was planning to spend about $500 or so on airbnb?

Hi trv,

I'm Dutch, and for a project I'm trying to collect opinions from foreign people who have visited The Netherlands. I'm interested in what you guys did here, why, where you stayed, which places you visited, what you thought of the Dutch as a people, what you liked, what you hated etc etc etc. Help me out and let loose!

I did a short trip by car to Netherlands and Belgium recently. Been to Amsterdam, Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Maastricht. I've slept in a tent in Amsterdam and then rented bungalows on various campings 20-30 km away from the major cities. Moved strictly on foot through the cities, it's tiring but the best way to get the feel of a city.
Random observations:
- piss easy to communicate in English, pretty much everyone speaks it well
- the bikes are a pain in the ass and you constantly have to watch out for them. Impressive how popular they are though.
- how can you live with no drapes in your windows?
- those omnipresent Ja/Nee stickers on the mailboxes, do they really work? I can't imagine leaflet spammers care much.
- let op! Drempels! Holy fuck stop putting those everywhere. Also they're all really high and kept scratching my poor car's belly.
- stroopwaffels are God's gift to mankind

All in all, it was a fun trip and I liked it there.

So I always wondered about those. Do you see any savings compared to someone who takes a compact car and stays in cheap motels? It seems like those camper vans burn through fuel fast and have a lot of maintenance involved. Plus you still have to pay if you want to use a campground.

Hello,
First of all, i am new to the /trv/ board so please forgive me if i make any mistakes.

I have met a girl from Kuwait which was on holiday to my country (netherlands). She asked me to visit her in Kuwait, but i have doubts if it is safe, and how the general acceptation is there from the population.

I would be traveling with Qatar airways.

Her family won't be a problem because i already met her sister and her dad and her mum know about this and invited me over.

Is it safe to travel to kuwait?
Is it safe for a non-muslim to be there with a lady?

Please advise.

Kuwait is safe to travel but no public displays of affection or allowed and alcohol can be hard to come by. Don't get me wrong, it's not impossible, but it's technically illegal so you are dealing with a black, prohibition, type market and all that entails.

I'd suggest, after meeting the fam, take a flight over to UAE or Bahrain for more wesern style fun. There is shoping there but even Kuwaitiis go to the aforementioned destinations for leisure. It's funny being on a plane, they announce they have left Kuwaiti airspace, and there's a long line at the bathroom and women go inside in burkas, and come out in their most luxurious western style dresses and wear.

But to your main point, no issue being a westerner. A lot of western military, contractors, and other expats there already.

tl;dr You can be out with a female, unlike Saudi, but no touching or PDA. She might have a male family member there, just because, though.

Okay guys thanks for the advices so Far! How is the public transport there? Or would it be better to rent a car?

Am i allowed to drive with a kuwaiti girl next to me?

I'm an American and will be travelling to Europe for the first time. I'll be visiting Germany and France and will be driving a rented car the whole way. Was just wondering, do I need health insurance? I already purchased insurance for the vehicle, but didn't know whether it was advisable to purchase a separate health plan just in case I get sick or injured.

Do you know how to drive a stick, or have you confirmed this car is an automatic. Granted I had a confirmed automatic and still ended up with a stick before.
>>
>>1040960

Confirmed automatic. I don't drive stick, so I called up the rental company to make sure. Any ideas on the health insurance stuff?
>>
>>1040960
If I had a nickle for every time that has happened to me, I'd have a couple of nickles...

Irritating...

(I can drive a stick, but when in UK didn't want to mess with one more thing being in the "wrong" place... there was enough to deal with without THAT.)

How do I find the cheapest plane tickets available?

I'm in New Zealand and looking to get a return flight to Germany, leaving in november-december and returning february. I'm really flexible with the dates.

I've been looking, but I want to know for sure I'm getting the cheapest possible.

How did you enter NZ in the First place without a flight-back-ticket?
Why do you want to leave NZ in summer though?
Be ready to pay 650-1000€ for the flight bra.

Go to a national park, or as many as you can. Bring bear spray and possibly mosquito nets. I've heard there are also rafting opportunities. Alaska is my dream trip, Gates of the Arctic National Park in particular. If you go let us know how it is

>There was a large migration of gangs from LA to Anchorage in the 80s and 90s

I live in Kasilof, Alaska, and if you've never been up here I'd recommend visiting Homer and possibly Seldovia or taking the ferry to Kodiak which is rather inexpensive, Denali National park is pretty cool I suppose, Kennicott mines are interesting if you're into historical mining landmarks and what not, Seward and Valdez are both beautiful areas but there isn't shit there really aside from like camping and boat tours which I recommend doing the one in either seward or valdez where they take you right up to the edge of the glacier, pretty epic watching massive chunks of ice falling into the water right next to you, idk I probably know a ton of other shit you'd be interested in too, I've lived here my whole life

So I'm going to study in Australia for 3 years. I'm going to get an apartment in Sydney near that weird bridge. I haven't been outside my own country for 8 years, and I'm a countryguy so cities has never been a such big part of my life, so I got some questions for you:

>What should I think of (Doing/Preparing/Etc).
>Good places in Sydney or Australia as whole? (I like mountains).
>How much job are there? I'm allowed to work 20% of the week there.
>Any of you guys who lives there?

>How much job are there? I'm allowed to work 20% of the week there.

You can get an illegal job in a 7 11 store, but you will get exploited. Also anything in hospitality is good, try getting a kitchen hand job in a hotel or a large restaurant. The larger the establishment the more protection you will have from the law.
>Any of you guys who lives there?
I live in Melbourne, so my advice on Sydney is limited.

Are you Chinese?

>I like mountains
hopefully not too much, the tallest mountain in Australia is like 1500 feet, the continent is crazy flat

Is it possible to travel the world with no money at all? I hear stories about people going around with next to no money and doing perfectly fine but I can't imagine myself doing it. I'd prefer to save at least $20K just to make sure that I've always got some safety net.

$500 for the emergency flight back home and your sorted anything more than that and you can make on the road.

some countries are real assholes about the (proof of) funds you have in order to enter the country and get the visa/visa entry. It's a roll of the dice, but you often see filthy backpackers getting pulled up for it, particularly ones that thought they could work whilst there.
>>
>>1040046

Been to plenty of countries that list "proof of funds" as an entry requirement and I've never been asked to show mine. I think you're fine as long as you don't look like a miserable vagrant and are from a first-world country.
