Hello /trv/, /fit/ here

I do not consider myself to be a traveller at all.
I go to Cuba twice a year and stay in resorts and have sex with people I meet at the lobby bar.

Anyway long story short, I just turned 30 and look faily godo. I don't want to buy a house, have children and etc... I feel like travelling around the world.

Can I expect to get laid with other tourists as easily as I do in Cuba if I'm travelling to other parts of the world ?

Also general sex and travelling thread

Is "faily godo" a typo, or some /fit/ meme I do not know?
>>

Yes. You can expect to get laid elsewhere. It's pretty easy to get laid traveling. I have never been to a country where an opportunity did not at least present itself, though I did not always do it.

Hi /trv/ me and my friend are planning on a trip around the world.
So we basically search for places you have to see before you die?
Any ideas?

f the places I have been, I'd mark the Galapagos Islands, Iceland and Cambodia as the DO NOT DIE BEFORE GOING THERE spots.

The Galapagos for the scientific significance coupled with the scenery and wildlife, Iceland is the most beautiful place I have ever been, Cambodia, between the Khmer temples and conversations with people who survived the Khmer Rouge genocide just made for a really powerful travel experience.

Slightly next tier -- Rome/Venice/Istanbul if you know and are interested in the history of the places, Yellowstone in the winter and Japan/China in one go for the contrasts vs. similarities of culture.

Has anyone here ever tried to travel across the world without using an aeroplane? Would it still be possible today? How much money would it cost?

Indigenous peoples of the Americas crossed it when it was frozen over over 10,000 years ago.
This is a pipe dream.

Assuming your car gets 350 mpg and its a 13000 mile drive you would have to refill your tank at least 37 times. If your car holds 18 gallons per tank and the average price of gas is $2.50, you would spend $1665 on 666 gallons of gas.
But, you would definitely have to have an offroad vehicle that can operate in various harsh conditions as well as a boat to cross the ocean at the strait. Also you will easily be spending large sums of money at once to pay for water and food during the long stretches.

Try it if you want, but I don't think anything less than 15 grand and a year of free time will suffice.
>>
>>1051546
You can't afford $15,000 (conservative estimate desu senpai) and a year off from work? How poor are you lololololol even the little street urchins in Mumbai can afford 15k and a year holiday
>>
>>1051527
It's possible. Some guys did it a few years ago by boat across the Behring and Atlantic, then biked across Russia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumnavigation#Human-powered

I don't know how you would cross oceans. You could time it to take cruises. There's Alaskan cruise ships that transfer at the end of the season in October. You could go from LA, Seattle or Vancouver to Japan or Australia. You could also do LA-Hawaii-Japan. There's some more common trans atlantic cruises, Cunard does UK-USA each way once a month.

There's also cargo ships, which tend to cost even more. Those have more space but with less amenities.

You could volunteer as a crew. There's websites like this
https://www.findacrew.net/
You could do South America to Australia that way, and then a lot of boats in the Mediterranean go to the Caribbean during the summer.

Anyone live in/visited Wilmington, NC? Have a job offer there & would like to know what I'm getting into since I may not have time to really explore the city before accepting/declining.

>>
I've visited.

The university is known for partying, although I've never been. The downtown is really interesting - cool ancient colonial houses slowly being gentrified by rich white people whose great-great-grandfathers probably owned the block once.

Outside of the historical area, its dirty and downtrodden. Probably has a high crime rate, although I haven't lived there long enough to notice. Outside of Wilmington are lots of beach towns - nice neighborhoods, but probably expensive.

Feels kind of like the grime of NY with the colonial background of DC.
>>
It's a nice town from my experience. some shit parts, but that's more or less anywhere. traffic can suck, too. it's basically any mid-sized city with suburban hellscapes and whatnot.

So I want to visit some city in central or eastern Europe and for now I'm wondering between Prague and Budapest. I'd love to hear some first-hand reviews and I'd be grateful if you can reccomend me some cheap and neat hotels in those towns.

Also any other suggestions for towns in the region with a lot of history that usually stay under the radar are welcomed.

Never been to Budapest, but you can't go wrong with Prague. Fairly cheap and incredibly beautiful.

I'd also consider Krakow in Poland and Vienna in Austria. Ljubljana in Slovenia too. You'll be sure to have an amazing time in any of them. Krakow and Ljubljana are a little smaller than for example Vienna or Prague. Not sure how long your trip will be though.
>>
Been to both, and I greatly prefer Budapest, but they are kind of different types of capital cities. Budapest is all (slightly faded, but only slightly) imperial glory, elegance, high culture and charm. And the baths (especially Szecheny) are a must - at any time of year.

Prague is a bit more overtly "urban" and industrial and maybe a bit too tourist-orientated, although the historic parts have charm too. I suspect it is rather better to visit in summertime though - Charles Bridge and the area around it are at their best of a summer evening. It has better beer (of course), but the food is pretty terrible (which is absolutely not the case in Budapest).

Ljubljana I'd stick up for too - a bit sleepy, but very charming. As is Slovenia in general.
>>
OP here, I was also thinking about Ljubljana as well. I was there once but I was only passing on my way to Switzerland so I didn't get to see the city. But I loved the scenery in Slovenia. I also found this small hotel which is fairly cheap. Thanks for the answers.

I don't think this is really a question for /trv/, but here is my very rough estimate of where it does and doesn't snow in the United States. I probably fucked up in a few places but this is my best guess and one which I hope is not too far off.

Everywhere below the blue line probably doesn't get too snow every winter or doesn't get very much snow when it does snow. Everywhere below the red line probably will not see snow on an annual basis although I think basically every state gets snow at some point or another.

Here's the USDA plant hardiness map.

http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/#

I'd only describe anything above zone 9b to be snow-free. But even where I live in zone 9b in central California it gets cold and occasionally freezes, but I've never seen snow here.

There are very few places zone 10a and above in the US. Which are generally warm year round and can grow tropical plants.

What's up, guys?

What can I do in Fort Lauderdale? I'm flying to Mexico City in March and have stops in FLL on the way there and back. My layover is ten hours and I'm an American citizenship, so I won't have to waste time clearing customs on my first arrival and then on my second departure.

Is it possible to visit Miami? Is there anything I can comfortably doing carrying around a small backpack, which will be my only luggage?

Feel kind of stupid because I've traveled a ton but haven't been to Florida since I was 5. I have no idea what to do there.

I don't usually post here so feel free to send me to a pre-existing thread for questions like this or something but here we go

My girlfriend and I will be in NYC (We are from Melbourne, Australia) from the 20th of December until the 10th of January.

So far we have booked tickets for a broadway show and a couple of sports games along with purchasing a NYC pass to do all the main tourist shit (Empire state etc.)

Any tips from locals to do not so touristy stuff or people who have been there during the winter for a vacation before and can tell us what you enjoyed/reccomend?

Cheers

Also since you're going with your gf I would recommend Rockefeller center. During the Christmas time they turn it into a ice skating plaza, I'm sure if you have ever watched a romantic movie set in NYC you have probably seen it before. Go rent a pair of skates and spend some time on the ice with all the other tourist couples.
>>

This was definitley on the agenda, cheers. Going to check if it operates on Christmas Day since we're not sure what will and will not be open

They do say the city never sleeps though right?

If anybody here is in Paris, I hope you're okay. Please stay safe.

top choice, Austin, Texas, the other two i pretty much picked at random so Vermont, and West Lafayette, Indiana wherever the fuck that is, i can't even point to Indiana on a map
>>
>>1050465
I second Austin. I grew up in Michigan and UofM there is pretty awesome, but you don't really get snow in Austin so less packing and more partying. Plus the city itself is full of young people moving to the city so you'll meet great people who aren't in college. Look for the university of Texas at Austin.

Hi guys!

Im moving from Denmark to VB in the states.
Im just looking for some nice activities and stuff.. Any ideas? :)

Being a foreigner it's not so bad of a spot to get to many historical spots for the United States. Many colonial towns and rich in history near by, you are close to where the first settlers came in and then revolutionary war and also fu*k over the natives like a bunch of bitches fu*k the white man

Aside from the usual giant buddha island type stuff, any of you dudes got recommendations for what to see/do in Hong Kong? I'm going there next week with my parents and brother. My brother and I will be spending a lot of time with them, probably, but I think we'll wind up having evenings/nights to ourselves.

I'm not super into nightlife, but get down occasionally. Into comics, fight sports, toys. Really liked Mandarake in Tokyo (which was a shopping complex full of that sort of stuff), wondering if there's anything like it in Hong Kong. Plus food recs, obviously.
