I'll be leaving to NOLA in a few days and just wanted to inquire about any good spots to hit, hidden gems, or neat hotels. Planning on being there for 6 days and will be with my girlfriend and money is really no issue. Thanks guys!

Stay out of my city.

Or

If you do come don't be one of those faggy tourists who complains to the natives about how dangerous it is. No we don't want to live in your peaceful suburb.

Bourbon Street is cool enough, go if you've never been. Sure it's touristy and shit, but whatever, if that's your type of thing, you'll still have fun.
But by all means, see more than the French Quarter, because there's so much hit. Hit the World War II museum, City Park, etc. Don't be one of those lame tourists who only comes in NOLA to get drunk. You can get drunk anywhere.

Hey /trv/elers,

I'm going on vacations to Cancun tomorrow. I have already planned to go to Chichen Itza and Tulum as the highlight of my trip, and I'm staying at the Grand Parnassus hotel. I'll be over there for about 6 days, which isn't that much, but I'd like to make my trip a little bit more exciting... Any tips?

While I have an interest in Mexican items, I'm also interested in shopping for American merchandise while I'm there, since the dollar is so high importing anything to Latin America's become a bitch, and Cancun is supposed to be duty free. If anyone knows where I could find a good imports shop, I'd be more than grateful.

In return, whatever you need from a Colombian, I'm here.

sorry to burst your bubble but Cancun is mainly about chilling on the beach while drinking, pigging out at the hotel buffet and going out to night clubs

Hello /trv/.

Recently my family decided to go on a trip abroad, and we are currently going over possible destinations.

Since the people going are my aunts (2), my uncle, possibly a cousin or two and my father, I started thinking about going places that are both a little less known but also family friendly; Full of sights and places to see and visit.

After a little research, I decided on northern Europe and Baltic Sea area; More specifically, Latvia, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Denmark, Greenland, Norway and Sweden.

I would like to hear your opinions on those places. Are the people friendly? Can we get by just with English? Is the food any good, or just average? What places are a must visit?

The trip would probably be about 2 weeks long, and we will probably visit only 3 or 4 of the countries. Which ones are the best?

Can anyone recommend some plastic surgeons abroad ? I was hoping to get the surgery done locally but $8500 is a bit goddamn much for me.
I've also never been out of the country before so this would be killing two birds with one stone for me.
I was aiming for something under 3k total.
Sorry if this isn't the right board , I was torn between /fit/ and here.

Hey /trv/ planning my first trip abroad for spring and was wondering what your oponions are on hostel dorms set ups. Do you prefer mixed or private dorms? 2-12 people dormitories?

>>
>>1060733
I prefer six bed mixed dorms. Eight in a pinch. Too small and it feels like you're in someone else's hotel room. Too big is obviously a problem.

Mixed because the odd babe in a bra and panties spices things up and I've seen a few tits and gotten laid once just from waking up while some chick was getting changed. It's no bad thing.

It's also a decent way to meet chicks. You've seen them in underwear, they've seen you in slightly less, it breaks the ice and everyone knows what's what and whether they're interested.
>>
Always mixed rooms so I can steal some of that sweet used panties the girls leave behind when they go do some sightseeing
>>
>>1060741
Well i was gonna go mixed but now I'm worried girls are gonna steal my man panties, thanks

Pretty much the opposite of traveling since it is just over a 10 minute walk for me but if you're in the area you may find something to enjoy nearby.

Bit sentimental, maybe, as it's the first place I lived in London - but, wow, what a neighbourhood.

So I'm in the early stages of planning a 4-6 week trip to Scotland, and I'd like practical information that I may overlook in the process.

I'm not big on culture, and my grand plan is to do several of the longer hikes through the country with breaks to distilleries and towns in between. I also don't want to carry a ton of hiking gear so I'll probably do the old man thing and sleep at hostels, bothies, or B&Bs.

So far I have 2 trails that I am definitely doing:
1) West Highland Way (94 miles)
2) Great Glen Way (73 miles)
The good thing is that one begins where the other ends, and they're both good hikes. But they're both fairly long and I don't intend to do them back to back. I'm also planning on doing a several day hike in Skye, then taking a bus or renting a car to drive about while I rest up.

I'd like some suggestions from people more familiar with Scotland on what to do between the 3-4 long hikes I plan on doing especially geared towards landscapes and unique places to visit. I'm also planning on keeping my pack pretty light, like a 50liter back so gear suggestions would be good (aside from a good pair of boots and rain jacket).

In the West Highlands, maybe visit Oban. It's a much more interesting town (cathedrals, big folly on the hill overlooking the place) than Fort William, where the two trails join. The train journey between Fort William and Oban (there are usually three trains a day, and you have to change at Crianlarich) is often described as one of the most scenic in the world - so try to do that in daylight hours. From Oban you could cross by ferry to the Isle of Mull , and then maybe on to other islands (eg Iona)
>>
I love the route from Loch Lomond to Oban to Fort William (Ben Nevis) to Mallaig to Skye. It's absolutely stunning. And Skye itself has fantastic hikes. There are some great hiking options in Cairngorms National Park too. The shorelines of the Orkney Islands are very dramatic as well.
>>
Just off the west highland way you'll find a distillery called Aberlour in the village of Aberlour, highly recommend this and the mash tun inn is an excellentp lace to stay, a little expensive but worth it. also Dewars world of whisky in Perthshire and springbank distillery in campbeltown are a must see.

Here's the deal /trv/,

I'm an aspiring zoologist looking to get a volunteer/internship position for my eventual resume. While I've already sent emails to hundreds of organizations and projects across the globe, I haven't had much luck. Does anyone here know of some good opportunities to **shudder** work abroad? Yes, I know the phrase is cringy beyond measurement, but I need a good resume.

My checklist is simple:

1. The less "white", the better. I ain't no elephant orphanage faggot.

2. Has to involve hands-on work as a field zoologist. I've already done plenty of weed pulling and tree planting.

3. Preferably an unpopular country. Sketchy countries and situations don't freak me out a lot, so I'd sooner go to Liberia than Costa Rica.

My ex and I really enjoyed working with Free The Bears in Phnom Penh. Probably not what you're looking for though (I'm guess it would be too white)

She was a vet student and I'm a med student so we got to do some cool hands-on work (assisting the evaluation, investigation and management of a bear with a fractured hip, minor dental work) but most of it was unskillled labour (sweeping up shit, preparing enrichment activities, preparing meals etc). Really did feel like you were significantly helping the operation of the charity though.

I'll be staying in Germany for a few days with my bf after attending Wacken Open Air. Where in Germany should we stay considering we've never been before and will only have 2 full days? No car so preferably somewhere close/ easily accessible by train from Hamburg (arriving/ leaving from Hamburg airport).
We're interested in historical sites like castles, ruins, mountains/hiking/ cool nature views, and food. bonus points for non touristy explorable castle ruins/ old military bunkers.
I've been looking into this but it's been difficult trying to decide on a particular city, so suggestions would be helpful.
Will be going in the beginning of August btw.

If you're interested in historical stuff you may visit Lübeck. Not that far from Hamburg and some interesting stuff from the middle ages and the hanseatic league.

Nice looking town but seems to be no cool old castles or mountains.
>>
>>1059694
Yeah its mostly dug up old houses from the hanseatic trade organizations. Gives you good insight in day to day life in that time.
>no mountains
You have to go further down south to see those. Maybe a day trip to saxony (especially Dresden) would be something for your consideration.

Do you think five and a half hours is enough time to leave Sciphol International, see some of Amsterdam, and return for an international, non-Schengen Area flight? I'm flying from Chicago to Amsterdam and then Amsterdam to New Delhi. I'll be arriving at AMS around 7:15am and leaving again at 12:45pm. I've passed through AMS quite a few times but have never had the chance to see the city.

I won't have checked bags and am a US citizen, so visas aren't necessary.

Does this sound workable?

>deboard, pass through customs (~45 minutes)
>purchase ticket and take train to Amsterdam (~30 minutes)
>explore central part of the city (~1-2 hours to be on the safe side)
>purchase ticket and take train to AMS (~30 minutes)
>pass through security (~20 minutes)

I wouldn't get to see a lot but I've been to Schiphol plenty of times and would like to escape the airport for a change.

I've been to Schipol / Amsterdam many times and think this is definitely doable. You could probably even stay in the city for 2.5 hours. But you should take a taxi, at least in to the city -- since you're short on time, if your ideal starting point for your city tour isn't close to the train station (and it's unlikely to be, as that area is shit tourist tier level) it's a lot more efficient (time-saving) to take a taxi. IIRC, fare is about 50 or 60 Euro, well worth it if this is an infrequent opportunity for you.
>>
>>1060413

Unfortunately I don't think I'd be willing to pay quite that much for a taxi. Is the train station in a particularly bad or boring area? I'm not at all familiar with the layout of Amsterdam city and only started toying with the idea of leaving the airport today.

I'm not planning on participating in any organized services. I'd be happy just walking around, soaking in some architecture and sights, maybe getting breakfast, and heading back to carry on with my next flight.

Thanks for the advice, by the way! From what I've gathered online, Schiphol's security and customs lines tend to be efficient. Does that match with your past experiences? Should I not have to worry too much about getting caught in an hour-long queue coming back to the airport?
