Hello /trv/,
I'm sailing from the west coast to the east coast of the United States, and spending lots of time in the countries in between.
A few months ago, I asked /trv/ for any advice on these countries (where to avoid, what to eat, where to go, everything) and you all were nice enough to oblige.
I'd like to return the favor by casting my line and seeing if there was anyone out there with questions about Mexico, travelling there, HAM Radio operation, nautical tourism, regular tourism, fishing etc. I have some downtime on some repairs and can provide answers to the best of my knowledge. I have not yet reached anywhere South of Mexico, which is why I'm limiting this specifically to Mexico. If I do not know the answer to your question, I will tell you that I don't know.

What is your nationality fag?
>>1063489
Natural born US Citizen.
>>1063493
Well, so you not really know Mexico fag. Even mexicans dont know the whole country. So it will better for trvanons to ask real questions to real mexicans.
Would you recommend visiting Portugal? Opinions on Lisbon, Porto, Algarve and other places?

As for OP's question, I found Lisbon pretty cool. Nice food.
In Coimbra now. It's pretty sweet and I haven't met a ton of people who have been here.
Lisbon is cool and has good cheap seafood. I spent a day in Porto but would rather spend more time there instead of Lisbon. Any specific questions?
Ask me e.g;
- about the language
- about the culture
- about the country itself
I'm an American, AMA.
Does it really get more "chinky" the further north you get?
Give me a reason to visit your country
>Would like to spend the new year's eve in venice
>check train tickets, A/R for less than 50€
>check timings
>no night trains
>hotels are too fucking expensive and generally shitty in venice
Goddamnit, I don't wanna stay overnight.
What do?
>>1063015
Lido is cheap in winter. I've had a nice room there for not much.
Hey guys I'll be taking my first really big journey this winter from New England to Miami then New Orleans and was hoping you knew some cool stuff to do
Here's the route- Richmond, Raleigh, Charleston, Savannah, Daytona, stay a week in Miami, Tampa, Pensacola, spend a week in New Orleans, Jackson, Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, Washington, home.
I'm interested in historic, cultural, and natural wonders plus cool places/ways to meet and hang out with new people
(Wish I was going to Los Angeles desu but don't have the time oh well)
>>1062535
Is there a reason why you posted this thread twice?
/trv/ is a slow board.
>>1062537
No, I don't know why there are two copies...I am posting from my phone perhaps that had something to do with it. My bad
>>1062535
new jersey guy from the south here. let me salute you for having the best planned driving route of the south I have seen in my time on /trv but it would be a lot better in the summer. i from raleigh but tourist often say there is nothing to do because no big tourist attractions. Find one of those papers that tells you what is going on in town that week. i think its also in the friday news and observer. it will be more useful than anything I could tell you here. good restaurants and bars but the museums etc are pretty lacking.
going to Zagreb for 3 days on new year's eve. What to do there? any advice?
Pretend to be Serbian

First time posting here
Is there any place that has these 2 things?
Good internet broadband speeds
Good gun laws
Currently I live in The Netherlands, but I'm looking for another place to settle.
Thanks!
no such thing as good gun laws rly
but texas has better both of those things thn tha Netherlands probably
South Korea
I know the meme response is Canada but it's true. You can have as many rifles/shotguns as you want if you have a PAL, which is a license you get from passing an 8 hour course on gun safety and a 10 minute phone interview with a mountie who just asks if you're going to shoot people with it.
Handguns need another 2 hours of training and must be registered. They have strict rules about storage so they don't fall into the hands of street dindus.
Semi-auto guns are either forbidden or have so many rules you don't want to bother with them. Full autos are obviously also forbidden.
Is it true that it's easy to get fake student ID cards in Thailand? Even with photographs?
>>1061299
it is illegal though
>>1061299
This is off-topic, right?
>>1061306
Why would it be?
It's specific to Thailand. Similar entrepreneurial activities are very rare in other countries.
Thailand is a sort of mix of third world morals and asian industry.
Hey /trv/, I've always to travel to Tierra del Fuego and Cape Horn, but I've not gone beyond the US before. Luckily, I've saved up about 3k for this trip. Anyone been there? Any idea on the costs? Hidden experiences?
Also, should I consider the boat trip to Antarctica,or is that just a tourist trap?
>>1058040
It's expensive and potentially rough seas to cross to Antarctica. But if you want to see Antarctica, it's your chance.
I understand there are plane trips out of Australia (?) iirc, don't know if there is something analogous.
>just a tourist trap
Not sure what you mean -- Niagara Falls is a natural wonder with tourist trap built all around it. Antarctica lacks salt water taffy shacks, t-shirts printed while you wait and theme bars.
It's Antarctica -- you know what it is, do you want t see it enough to pay for it and spend the time crossing, and does potential rocking and rolling on the boat turn you off at all?
>>1058040
How do you feel about penguins, and birds in general? It's quite a trip for a bird-watcher.
so, it looks like i'm going to have the opportunity to take at least a month off this coming summer. i live in nyc, but would like to pick up and move to a foreign city for the month of (let's call it) august, which i realize poses some timing issues. i'd like to to be relatively easy to navigate using english, but i'm also trying to make up my mind early so i have time to try and learn some of the local language. i've thought about eastern europe; maybe budapest, krakow, or something like that. suggestions??
>>1063228
for more info, i tend to like places with some history and a food scene. bars more than clubs. plan is to rent an apartment for a month.
>>1063231
Addis Ababa
Budapest would be a good pick then. Only problem is that the language is pretty hard to learn.
Maybe you could also try Salzburg or Vienna. It'll be easier to get around with english.
G/F surprised me this morning with a trip to Hungary for a week (Budapest)
Be eager to hear of /trv/ experiences with the place.
We are heading at the end of February.
Sights to see, sounds to hear, food to taste ?

>>1062913
Fuck you!
Hunanon here, not overly familiar with budapest tho. Tell me about your interests a bit more, and I could help.
Things I think you would appreciate:
-Hungarian cousine is damn fine, but its hard to catch in a big city, fisherman's soup, anything from pork, and Tokaji wine, or something heavier: pálinka.
-Hungary is well-known about its thermal water, if you are in Budapest, try out Széchenyi fürdő or Gellért fürdő.
-If you would like to meet new people and have a beer, look for "ruin pubs". pic related

You're thinking of Bucharest
Hey /trv/,
I am an accountant from Canada. The main reason why I picked this career was because my parents wanted me to pick it.
I want to become an ESL teacher teaching overseas in the long run. In the past, I did some tutoring and I loved it. I am asexual, so I am not interested in having kids. I can earn enough to live comfortably in another country.
However, my parents do not want me to become an ESL teacher. They want me continue being an accountant. They said that if I decide to teach English abroad, they will not let me inherit their house. (I am their only child, but they can still donate the money to charity).
Should I still stick with the idea of teaching English abroad? Any advice here?
>>1061300
Yes you should. And if your parents really love you, you'll still inherit their house. If not, who cares? You live overseas now anyway. Follow your dreams.
>>1061304
>You live overseas now anyway
Things may not work out though. For example, I may not get used to the culture there or I may be sacked and unable to find a new job. If that happens, I am broke.
>>1061300
See a therapist. Something you need to work out or get medication....
If you interrupt the accountant career, yea, you royally screw up and mess up all that you've worked hard to do. Why not put your time into getting a second degree that transitions you into a) more income/portability for this travel abroad idea, and b) appeases parents concerns for your future (because yah, you can't affording the upkeep on a house/taxes with loser prospects) and c) stimulates your mind a bit more than teaching english to third world idiots. Talk about lonely and boring both, someone with your personality will dieeeee from anyone speaking ever to you on a level that keeps a single/no-family person satisfied.
What does this simbols mean? wich language is?

Not sure about the first and third characters.

After some googling, it looks like the first character is supposed to be 臨.

What is the best 30-35 liter backpack for traveling?
buy some military duffel bag
- Cheap
- indestructible
- nobody will steal it
- you can use a loock at some models
>>1063167
If you want one of these try searching eBay for "sea bags", it's what we called them. They're durable as Fuck. They also tend to have a water proof flap inside and you can fold the top over to attach a lock or the built in carabiner type clip. Only downside in my opinion is the lack of cushion in the straps but with some effort you might be able to attach something more comfortable.
>>1063167
this one! I have the exact one and love it. Can throw it anywhere and store anything. 110L is the biggest and the most useful size in my opinion.
How do I make a call in a foreign country without a SIM card or a street payphone?
Step 1: Stop being a retard.
