A lot of places are now trying to get you to pay for this shit.
Are you undergrad or grad? Looking for research opportunities or?
Look for PHD candidates who need helpers. I had the chance to help out an amphibian research project in Thailand, but it conflicted with my student teaching.

I'd be just out of highschool. While the amphibian thing sounds awesome, I most some place with mammals.

Hey guys and gals!
This is the year I have decided to hit Japan with my better half, looking at 3 weeks, flying from the UK.... Just after some advice from people who have been or go regular on places to stay and what to see etc and getting around?
We'd like to move around the country as much as possible over the 3 weeks. We're not doing it on a budget nor looking to use hostels (those days are over) but at the same time we're not looking to blow cash on Raddisons and Holiday inns.... We're not fussy but obviously would prefer more traditional etc.
I know it's a bit vague, but I have done a vast amount of research so we're not going in blind. Just wanted to hear back from people who have done a similar thing over a similar period and where they went and stayed etc and how they got around.
Really appreciate any feedback as looking to book flights asap.
Just found the Japan thread and gathering info there, but still appreciate any info from the anons if they are willing.
Canadian planning on visiting Phnom Penh for a week. What are some things I have to eat/check out/know/etc?
If you're not on a budget staying at the Raffles is amazing. If it is out of the price range, at least check out the elephant bar. The city has some beautiful avenues, recommend taking a Tuk Tuk everywhere. It's the best way to absorb the Khmer architecture whilst traveling around town. Seeing the killing fields was heavy but good to see.

Bought my ticket to france with the ultimate goal of joining the french foreign legion. Flying into paris and only concrete plan is to get to aubange and the recruitment center within a month of arrival. Any advice about things to do in france and neighboring countries? Also french general thread didn't see one in catalog
>>1071328
I've thought about this, but unfortunately I thought too long because now I'm too old.
What is your plan for getting from Paris to Aubange?
>>1071328
>things to do in france
It depends, what do you like, how much can you spend on transportation or a car, and how much free time will you have ?
>>1071347
Im willing to spend max a couple grand. I am very cheap plan on staying in hostel/possibly camping. Flying into paris andtrying to decide if i should promptly leave to Marseille (close to aubange ) or spend time in france. Want to interact with people and have chance to practice my french. I am 24 and open to any suggestions looking to broaden my horizons.
Hello /trv/, I wanted to know if someone has any tips for me how to get to Gdansk from Riga. I have an offer to work there and I have some things i would like to bring with me besides clothing so what i would prefer is to travel by buss since flight will be expensive as hell.
I have tried to search the Latvian buss company pages for Riga-Gdansk and as far i can see there is direct buss connection. Maybe someone here can share something that i might be missing. Thanks

I couldn't find anything direct from LuxExpress etc. Looks like you'll have to go to Poland and change - http://www.rome2rio.com/s/Riga/Gda%C5%84sk
Hi /trv/
Im looking at doing a month long snowboarding holiday 12 months from now and am interested in Colorado.
2 years ago I did Canada, specifically Whistler and Banff. I'm looking for an experience closer to Banff. Main town with busses that shuttle you to and from mountains via all the lodges. Anyone have any experience in Colorado?
Initial searching suggested Telluride as being a little quieter with nice beginner and intermediate slopes. Other suggested spots were Vail and Breckenridge.
Any and all info/advice welcome. Where is busiest, has the best side activities, sight seeing, dining etc. Thanks
I think a lot depends on your budget. Telluride and (especially) Vail are rather expensive. If this is OK with you, I'd suggest either (in Telluride you don't need shuttle buses as trails end in the middle of town). Vail probably has the edge in nightlife but is more expensive. If cost is a consideration I'd suggest Sun Valley in Idaho -- the mountain is really nice, there's a beginner mountain nearby (Dollar Mountain), and the main town (Ketchum) has a lot to do at night.
Anyone know what this plugs into..? It's attached to a floor lamp and is the only cord coming out of it..

+1 (nice meme)
>>1072608
This probably isn't the board for it and you've told us fuck all.
Although it vaguely resembles an M4 plug, my guess is that it's some kind of ISO4165 which appear to be used for some outdoors and camping equipment/vehicles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_4165
It's almost certainly DC and there's a decent chance that it actually just plugs into some transformer with a custom connector, which is pretty common.
What's saigon like? Have to go there for a visa run.
It's alright, I spent a couple of weeks there but only because I scored a temp girlfriend with tinder. Eat delicious food, ride around on scooters, have sex, drink beers on rooftop bars. Pretty good times.
>>1072580
I like the backpacker area, it's cozy with good drinks and hot bargirls (they don't fuck mostly, just flirt to sell you beer) and good food.
And you can walk a block and be out of the tourist area.
I'm meeting my gf abroad. She left a week earlier to see family in Thailand. I'm meeting her in Bangkok.
Her bag was lost in the airport, and she lost most of her Lipitor, and has maybe six doses remaining. She asked me to bring her some, and since we are staying for three months, it might look like a suspicious amount of boxes with pills. Will I have any trouble?
Just explain the situation if you're questioned. It's Lipitor, not coke.

I have been to Thailand with lots of pharmaceuticals (including syringes) dozens of times. Nobody has ever asked questions. But I'm surprised that your girlfriend can't get statins in Thailand. Bangkok pays a little more attention to scripts than the rest of the country, but I'd be surprised if she couldn't just buy it over the counter from most pharmacies.
Hi /trv/,
My Girlfriend and I are travelling to Japan for the first time. A lot of friends keep asking me why we're travelling in the summer as if its a bad idea. Mainly asking for general tips and if anyone has had experience with the summer festivals. We're mainly going to be around Tokyo and one week in Osaka.
>>1071418
It's just hot and humid as fuck in the summer.

There is a Japan general. Please use it.

Should I move to Amsterdam?
Where are you from?
I would avoid moving to Islamsterdam. It's glory days are far gone.

Dutch confirmed's.
Hi /trv/
My girlfriend and I are travelling through Thailand for 12 days. Sadly I had more vacation time on me, so she returns home for work and I stay for 12 more days.
Staying in Thailand is a no no. I want to check out Vietnam at the very least.
Are 12 days too little to see some of Bangkok, then head to 'nam and add one more destination (like cambodia or laos?).
What are some major things I should see? I"m a sucker for Vietnam War history, and War History in general, cars, food (mostly cooking) and visiting ruins/temples is something I'd like to do. While I'd like to take some of the city in, I'd rather do some trekking or exploring on the outskirts.
I know its way to little for in depth travelling. I know I will be returning though.
tl;dr, 12 days in SE Asia, starting in BKK. Not interested in partys or sex tourism. Wanted to visit Vietnam, tour BKK, and add one other destination but I'm thinking if it'd be worth to do it in such little time.
>>1071993
2 days in BKK
2-3 Days in Siem Reap
4 days in HCM
2 days of travel, 1 between BKK and SR and another between SR and HCM
I find BKK boring as hell, go see the Palace (read about the scams), floating markets, temple of dawn / Wat Arun. You can get on a bus or take the train at 5am to SR or even fly, I feel Angkor Wat is worth breaking up over 3 days.
I have never been to HCM, I traveled Hanoi and the north.
Alternative. See BKK, fly to Hanoi or HCM and spent 10 days in Vietnam if the war is more interesting than Angkor for you.
Where will you both travel in Thailand?
>>1071999
The war interest me. A lot. But Angkor looks so awe inspiring I cant miss it.
We fly into Phuket and spend the night at the Old Town, cause we arrive late. We get the fuck out of that shithole the next day, and spend a couple of days on the lesser shithole that is Phi Phi, doing some beach stuff and relaxing -if chavs let us- and then head back two the mainland, stopping along the way to BKK.
>>1072014
All of Southern Thailand is a shithole.
any americans been to cuba recently? I want to go for spring break, but it seems like there's still a restriction against tourism. Whats the easiest way into the country?
Also any specific cities or areas worth exploring besides havana?
>>1071788
haven't Americans always been able to get into Cuba but through Canada?
>>1071788
Last time I checked you could go, but it had to be for one of a dozen pre-approved reasons, tourism not being one of them. However, I know Cuba and the US recently agreed to allow tourism. It's just a matter of how soon airlines get approved to fly with red tape and such.
Cayo Santa Maria is pretty awesome.
