Hi /trv/, I am in Europe for 3 months and I want to visit as many natural wonders as possible anywhere in Europe (preferably more western Europe).
What are great spots for walks, hikes, and just spectacular views?
16 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
The French/Swiss/Austrian alps have some pretty beautiful scenery, but I've not been there since I was a child so I can't really recommend any places in particular. If you're there right now it's ski season, so things like hiking aren't so easy. Also, it's worth bearing in mind that these places are expensive - they're the holiday destination of choice for rich Western Europeans.

If you are able to go a bit further east, I'd definitely recommend Bled and Bohinj in Slovenia, and Plitvice and Krka in Croatia.

Corsica is pretty great. High mountains from which you can see up to the see on the top, high altitude lakes, cristal clear water with pink cliffs...
The Alps of course, but the Pyrenees must not be understimated either
That's mostly mountains tho I could list some great canyons in France too.

Hi

got an internship offer in bogota and im wondering if its worth it or too dangerous ? im a white female
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If the opportunity is good then it's worthy; Bogota is a first world city for the most of it and unless you wander into the slums there is no danger.

A lot of people is white there so you won't stand out as much as you think, plus Colombian women are extremely hot so that will make it easier for you as well

You will obviously have to learn the precautions needed to prevent pickpocketing, muggery and other wonderful experiences normal in most Latin American countries

Thanks for the reply
the "most dangerous" country i've been to so far is Nicaragua. How would the situation compare with colombia?
>>
>>1071430
Bogotá is much safer in my experience, I don't know about other cities in Colombia but I've never heard bad things about them

Hey, I'm a high school student who is looking for a new backpack, and this is the best place I can think of. I need something I could carry around school and not look like an idiot while doing so, and I am also planning on doing a lot of traveling for the next 6 months or so. I need something waterproof, very reliable, and has a lot of space. I would like for it do be under 80 bucks.

Do you keep a travel journal?

I'm considering doing it for my next trip. Why? The other day a friend of mine asked me for tips on what to do on Mallorca. I was there for two weeks three months ago, and I can't remember shit.

Plus, it might be fun to read when I'm older.

No, but it sounds like a cool idea.
>>
I did on my last trip to Nepal which was my first long solo trip.

I find it pretty therapeutic, getting thoughts and feelings out on paper and I read through it last week in anticipation of the trip I'm on now around South America. Yes it kept a nice record and reminded me of things I had forgotten, both written and not.

Have the same journal with me now and keeping wary of having it just be an event recorder. I find the best entries are the ones that give a clear view of my mind set instead of just saying what I did.

I tend to keep a journal anyway (though I do write nearly as much as when travelling) and my only warning would be not to worry over recording every last detail - you're supposed to be having fun, not feeling tied to having to write.

Tldr: go for it.
>>
I try to take video snippets/pictures and then put them together in a short vacation video. So that's kind of my "journal"

Is there anyone here who uses portable transportation like folding bikes, roller blades, scooters, and skateboards to get around foreign cities?

I've always thought it would be a good idea to pack something like a folding bike or roller blades into your airplane luggage and use it to see a city. It looks very convenient and cheap to have transportation like this instead of having to walk, take the bus, or rent a car.

I was thinking of just renting bikes, but now this got me thinking of bringing my skateboard instead to save me some extra cash.
>>

With fees most airlines charge for oversized luggage and special items, prolly rental is better.

I love a Segway tour. They're pretty fun. Guided too. Done them in 8 citites now. I highly recommend D.C. and San Francisco. Miami Beach is near the top as well.
>>
Surly makes a couple frames with s&s couplings in the middle of the frame, and you can take it apart and pack it into a bag that can be checked on a plane.

My girlfriend and I are thinking about going to Switzerland. It's supposed to be beautiful and from Holland an easy one day drive. We've already been to Geneva when we were staying in the French Alps.

Anyhow. We love the outdoors, mountains, lakes, hiking, cable cars etc. We'll probably visit a city or two if it's close, but we're mostly there for the amazing nature.

What would be a good place to stay that is both beautiful and within reasonable driving distance of some of the best things Switzerland has to offer. We're not opposed camping, but since we're spoiled a little more luxury is appreciated. Glamping (even though I hate the word), chalets, that sort of thing. If possible.

Where do we stay and what do we go see?

Okay, guys. It's official, I've decided, I'm going to Thailand, it's going to be 2-3 weeks of eating food, culture, sea and a good time.

I want everyone who has ever been to share all the info and make this the best and official Thailand thread for the rest of /trv/.

THINGS TO KNOW:

Hotels in Bangkok
-How much? Which are the best to cheap ratio? Closest to the city? What to watch out for and avoid? Do you have to book hotels before you arrive?

Food
-Where to go? What signs tell you to avoid street food? What to try?

Scams
-Most famous ones? Obscure ones you might not know about?

Vaccination
-Required? What to get?

Touristy destinations
-Places to visit in Bangkok? Any point in leaving Bangkok and going to another city? Which city to go to? Anywhere that isn't really known about by tourists?

Memes
-Which places are memes that are actually shit?

Carry On Only
-Is it useful to do this instead? Can you leave luggage in the hotel?

Tailors
-Should you get a suit made whilst you're there?

I'm going to be taking a lot of photos as I'm a photographer, I can't wait to go. Should I be worried about my camera being stolen?

I want all the info, I really want to make this a great trip and I can't wait to try the street food.

You can expect around 500 baht a night for somewhere with a refrigerator and bathroom. I'd advise spending a little extra just to get a good neighbourhood. Avoid Asok/Nana.
Hotels are common and cheap, so you don't necessarily need to book. It would make your arrival much easier, though, if you knew exactly where you had to go.

>-Where to go?
7/11 or Aeon for organic yoghurt. It combats Delhi Belly.

>-Is it useful to do this instead? Can you leave luggage in the hotel?
This question implies that you would be wandering around Bangkok in 35 c heat with your entire wardrobe on your back. Why would you do that? I don't even understand fannypacks.
Yes, leave your luggage in your hotel. I'd advise getting hard-cased lockable luggage just to be safe, though.

>>1061748
>-Should you get a suit made whilst you're there?
No. Go to Hong Kong, find a Chinese tailor who doesn't use touts, drop at least 7000HKD for a suit with a "floating canvas" jacket.

Women will look at you like you are a prince.

Bangkok tailors are able to make shirts and trousers. Just make sure they're using 100% cotton fabric - ask for fabric samples (this is standard) and burn them at your leisure. If they turn to ash, they're cotton. If they turn into a blob, they're polyester.

Your thread is very vague and won't get many replies. Start reading the other threads on /trv/, often people post about their experiences when traveling.

If you have specific questions about travel then ask away otherwise just post in other threads. This board is very slow.

Once you get some ideas you'd like to discuss, get feedback on etc., start a thread -- folks here are pretty helpful if you have something interesting to start a conversation with.

Hey there /trv/ hope you guys are having a good day. I don't frequent this board but I know it's the best place to go for information. So here is my question,

I'm an 18 year old, white, male. I have a 20 year old multiple year girlfriend of Hawaiian decent. We are looking for a place to live in America where right now we are in Kansas. She doesn't like it here and I could use a fresh start. So where for us is the best place to live?

I am a construction worker with experience in landscaping, electrician work, and am planing on taking a course in plumbing soon and stay in good shape to keep my job. She is an art major. So our money situation isn't very good.

We are willing to road trip and explore our options, so guys, where should we go? With living costs, gas prices, health care, all that in mind?

If ur in Kansas. Drive to stl cheapest cost of living u will find in a cool city. Like 500$ for an apartment. U can't fin that in places like Chicago, east or west coast. Good art scene, check out Cherokee street. And if she truly wants to be an artist go to a place with density and culture. It's a pet peeve of mine when ppl wanna Perdue art and live in the middle of nowhere. It's like trying to be a professional snowboarder and living in Phoenix az

Hi /trv/. Polish 20 y.o here. I would like to start some journey around May, but i don't know where to go, i just want to go far away from here, for ex.on 2-3 months. Can you give me some advice, where to go if i don't have a lot of money, what to see, where meet some interesting people, or something? Mainly, i think about Central-Eastern Europe, but if you know some cheap ways to get to for ex Asians countries, feel free to share the idea.I have a valid passport but i don't have any visas.

I want to get to know new cultures, and travell across the countries, doesn't matter is that city or nature area if it's interesting place. Generally all my foreign travels was to western Ukraine because they have cheaper petrol, so I suspect that a lot of places may seem interesting to me.

I can give you a few suggestions. I personally visited Slovakia and CZ and loved both countries. I think they're slightly cheaper than Poland (except Prague which was geared towards tourists). There's so much to see there, a lot of historical sites. Kutna Hora is my recommendation, you must go there if you're in CZ.

My cousins recently went to Serbia, Macedonia and Albania. They said that Macedonia has a lot to see (nature wise only and some Roman era ruins). Best part is that it's incredibly cheap there. If you can hitchhike down there you'll be able to do a lot with not a lot of $.

A lot of Poles seem to be going to the Caucasus region. I have no direct info but they say it's cheap and there's a lot of good wine there. Lots of historical sites and some of the most spectacular nature in the world. Same thing as with the Balkans, if you hitchhike down there it will be super cheap.

I'm visiting Portugal for a week with my GF, flying an out of Lisbon, in February.

What are some must-see or must-do things besides Portugal? We won't be able to rent a car so we'll have to take buses/trains/blablacar or hitchhike. We're open to suggestions but nature/parks/beatiful towns are on the top of our list

Pic related is the Santa Bernarda. It leaves from Portimao.

http://www.santa-bernarda.com/

We were there in high summer though. No idea how Feb is.

From Lagos you can also book dolphin watching trips. We loved that!

If you're into history there's an old Moorish fort in Silvas as well.

Great views from Cabo de st. Vicente as well. It's the most Western point of the European mainland. I think. It has a little lighthouse. And just before the lighthouse there's a bratwurst truck ran by actual Germans who advertise with selling the "Letzte Bratwurst vor Amerika" (the last Bratwurst before America).
