Nope, ISIL.
Too dangerous.
>>
Should be absolutely beautiful. But there is WAY too big a risk to accidentally go on a "star in your own beheading video" excursion.

I don't know how other people feel about this, but for me personally the entire middle east and North Africa are an absolute no-go travel-wise at the moment.

Jordan is easing visa restrictions, bolstering security for tourist spots and obviously prices are shooting down. Realistically if you're government is letting you fly to a country the you should be alright. Even when a country is in difficulty, road blocks will stop you from entering the hot areas..

What is objectively the most dangerous country to travel in? At first I thought North Korea, but at least it has a central government that can be negotiated with. It's probably all of Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Nah I was just in parts of Afghanistan that weren't extremely terrible. But the terrible parts would be up there. I'd say anywhere in ISIS territory, most militant groups are prepared to hold you for extended periods while bargaining, but those dudes seem to be all about the video production.

I had made a previous thread but it got deleted.

I'm travelling to Thailand (already have a visa) and then heading to Vietnam, or Vietnam and Cambodia.

Anyhow, I'll be in Bangkok for a couple of days. Should I get my Vietnam visa online, with myvietnamvisa, or go to the embassy?

I'm a Vancouverite thinking about going on a cross Canada trip. I've never been outside of BC and want to see the rest of this country, especially the East coast. I looked into rail and it looks like I can get an unlimited pass for 60 days for $1000 dollars but that seems like a bad deal. Would it be better to do a road trip? Has anyone done a cross Canada trip before? Which cities would you recommend visiting? What did you like to do? Share your experiences if you have them.

Honestly, if you plan on traveling far, you might as well just go to the USA.

There's just so much more to do, things to see etc.

I'd just take a plane and fly to the east coast if you want to go there. Theres not much to see once you get past alberta until you get to Ontario

Unless you are particularly interested in the prairies, I'd just skip on by and fly to Toronto, then train/drive ON-QC-NB-NS or wherever it is in particular you wanted to go.

I'm a 21 year old white Australian male who wants to travel and possibly live in Thailand for an extended period of time.

The reason for this thread is because I have exactly no clue on how I am going to go about doing this.

So basically I've been following thai property groups on Facebook and the job networks and etc. I have a lot more f experience in hospitality mainly bartending and waiting.

Basically I'm just looking for a step by step guide on how I can achieve my end result me working and living in Thai for a few months. And how much money AUD I'll need to kick start my adventure.

Pls no bully

Dude either you want to go or you don't. It will be an adventure and there will be hardship. If you're not ready to throw yourself to the world then do what the rest of us do and wither away at an office job.

Either way you're never gonna get out of it alive.

A condo in BKK isn't all that expensive actually. You could definitely live there for a few years if you have some spare cash. You just need a job and to work out what you're doing visa wise for all that time.

Hi /trv/,

Me and a friend of mine are travelling to Belgium and the Netherlands in a couple of months and we are yet to decide which cities /towns to visit. We are pretty much into cultural tourism, sightseeing, eating and drinking deliciously and maybe some partying, I also enjoy outdoorsy activities. We are kind of travelling on a budget.

We will start our trip in Amsterdam and want to visit Bruges but other than that we haven't chosen any destinations. Which places will you guys recommend? Tourist stuff is ok but recommendations on cool local spots will be appreciated.

We are both in our late 20's and travelling as a couple. We are also considering nearby destinations such as Luxembourg or Germany.

I'm curios too. Thought about Amsterdam-Hague-Antwerp-Bruges, Ghent, Brussels, and maybe Rotterdam?
>>

Well, it is only a 9 day trip so we don't want to visit more than 4 places. We are considering Ghent and Brussels tho.
>>
>>1073049
Just throwing out options and also asking people for my own sake at the same time.

If you put a gun to my head and said choose 4, i guess i would say amsterdam, bruges, brussels and ghent. 5th would be hague. Never been to any though, just based on my own research and wgat interests me

Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110Â¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390Â¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350Â¥

Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

Hey friends, let me introduce myself a little bit first. I'm a 22 year old Belgian student. I've been to some decent amount of different countries. (A hike with friends in scandinavia was by far the best)

I am now at a point in life where I realise how important it is to start saving money as soon as you can.

A friend of mine is currently staying in vancouver, Canada. I have the chance to go to him. So I only have to pay for the flight and ofcourse the money I spent there. Flight is around 700 and I'll think I will spend another 300 there in the 14 days I would be going.

Now, is it worth it? Is Vancouver worth, a decent share of my savings?

Also what month is best to travel to vancouver. February or april and why?

General suggestions/stories/tips more then welcome

Thanks in advance

Are you talking about Euros, or Dollars? Vancouver on $20 a day isn't going to be very good, especially in February or April. What part of town does your friend live in? If they're a student, they might be busy in April with finals

Vancouver is a ok city, in a setting that's great for the 4-5 months of summer. If you're going to go, pick April. There could easily be 20 days of rain in February, but you're probably used to that.

Unless you're friend is buying you stuff, you wont get to do very much. There's a lot of asian restaurants, tourists seem to like those. There's a lot of asians in general, but you'll probably find them easier to live with than arabs.

If you like weed, April 20th is a big deal in Vancouver.

Hello everyone. I just want to preface this with how fucking glad I am that I remembered that this board exists.

Anyway, I'm a 19 year old college dropout (still living on residence, left school because it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be) and my lease expires in late August. I'll try not to bore you with the details here, but basically I've had a really fucked up life and instead of helping, college just sent me into a brief but brutal relapse. I've quit just about everything at this point, I don't even smoke cigarettes anymore, and the more I get my mind back the more I start to realize that I don't want to sit here for the rest of my life, playing video games and jacking off. And suffice to say, home isn't really an option.

I've been on several multi-day kayak expeditions, 3 were a week long and too many 3-4 day trips to even count (or remember, but that's beside the point), so I know how to survive with minimal supplies and extremely basic living conditions. I can go for extended periods of time without food, water or sleep if necessary, and I'm easy to get along with.

I don't have much, but what I DO have, I'm willing to spend on this trip. I'd even be open to working odd jobs wherever I can find them just to make enough to get to the next destination. I don't know where I would even want to go yet, but I have about 7 months to figure that out, so I'm not really worried about it at the moment.

I live in Peterborough, Ontario (Canada), and I'm just looking for one or maybe two other travelers who would want to come with me, wherever it is I end up going. So /trv/, who wants to go on an adventure?

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not planning on living with wolves. I mean if they're friendly enough and they offer me the scraps of a deer carcass it would be rude to turn it down, but I'm not going to be actively looking for them.

I think about this a lot. I'd skip Russia if I did it. I'd go through Turkey instead, through Georgia and Azerbaijan and take a boat across the Black Sea. The Azerbaijani visa is apparently a motherfucker but on a bike you could probably do the country quickly with an easy transit visa. Once across the Caspian I'd land in Kazakhstan. As an American I can travel through Kazakhistan visa-free. Then I'd see Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan before entering China (which is another pain in the ass visa-wise, I dunno why you're singling out Russia)

What languages have you found most useful when traveling the world? Like which ones have come in handy in the most places? One day I plan to go, particulary to places like Egypt or Kenya, maybe some of Europe or whatever, but I figure it's best if I start learning a language earlier rather than in the few months before I leave. I already know English because I'm from NZ. Thinking about maybe picking up French as I took it as a class like 7 years ago.

I thought so, thanks for the fast reply.

Yeah there's no clean answer to this question, OP. I would argue French for two reasons: it's the co-official language of 29 countries, and it's widely understood in many more (the only meaningful conversation I had with any locals in Vietnam was in French, not English).
Second reason is that it gives you a toehold onto Romance languages in general, and Spanish of course is the other most widely spoken language. Speaking French you won't necessarily be able to have a convo with a Spanish speaker, but you'll be able to understand road signs, menus, etc, and use caveman speech in an emergency.

Look up Michel Thomas if you are going to pursue French.

What do you think makes for a bad traveling companion? What were some of your worst experiences?

I got stuck with someone whose interests were limited to drinking and room service; literally the same shit you can do at home in any hotel. You can avoid this by discussing plans prior.

I always fly solo, but I can tell you who some of the worst company for the day were.

>ugly East European who fancied himself a Pick Up Artist. Idolized Roosh.v and couldn't shut up about "game", called going to the pub "night game" and called our clothes "outer game". Just stood creepily over girls. Needless to say, neither one of us got laid that night

>bratty Japanese couchsurfers who spent the whole time in the spare room, answered everything " yesyesyesyesyesyesyes" or "ohohohoh okokokokok" demanded a chauffeur everywhere (couldnt handle taking a bus) and thought we were filthy for walking around our apartment in bare feet. They also sucked at drinking.

>Americans in our hostel who told us Canada was a pussy country for not fighting in more wars, George W Bush was a better president than Lincoln, God made the earth 5000 years ago, and Indians and Arabs are the same thing. They were apparently there for a sports tournament.

>a tour bus full of Germans and Finns. Even the driver gave up trying to have any sort of fun after an hour.

People who don't research places to go, food to eat, things to do and then complain when you offer suggestions based on what you've researched.

Its really turned me off travelling in a group if I'm having to be the tour guide the whole time, I want a fucking holiday too.

I will be spending 8 days in the Balkans in July. 4 days in each selected place.

What are the best destination in the Adriatic sea coast? I have heard a lot of good stuff about Montenegro and Croatia.

>>
Sofia/Bulgaria here, ask away. But coast during the winter, why? Try Dubrovnik, Split.
>>
>>1067027
Wel the reason I wanted to visit the coast is because I have an uncle that went there once and only said amazing things about it. Second reason is thet the trip is actually 2 trips: One to spend 6 days on Italy, on the coast of the Adriatic sea, and the 8 days on the balkans. I tough that having the Blakan destination on the coast would make it faster and easier to get too.

What is Sofia like? With the 4 day per location limit I cant visit the whole of Bulgaria, but im sure I can see the capital fine.

Any sites of kebab removal from the past? What sort of museus and historical sites? The food: Good international and traditional bulgarian food places? What about those little hidden gems that only the locals know about, like taverns and such?
