Hey /travel/
>I am 19 years old
>I am 5'3 and live in Connecticut
>have a really shitty car and like 1,000 bucks plus 1,000 in computer and other crap
I have been family trips around america but never really lefted my home town, I have a really shitty part time job and still live with my mother I have been really depressed and have been really thinking about killing myself lately I think its maybe because I never lefted my shelter of my home town and my chronic addiction to using the internet and just being a hermit/antisocial in general but I feel like getting out of here would be a good idea.
Does anyone good idea's where I can go? what I should do?
I have a really nice backpack and a lot of bush-craft experience and I would have no problem driving my car until it breaks and walk just need some kind of plan before hand or would it be better to just wing the whole adventure?
Hey anon if you can make it to quebec or ontario ill go camping with you.
>>1096758
Going threw Canada would be great
this is my bag up

1) it would be pretty fucking retarded to kill yourself. If shit is really THAT bad then sell everything and start hitchhiking around, doing odd jobs, making friends on the road. Maybe buy a ticket to SEA and bum around there living with next to nothing for a while. What's the worst that could happen? You die? You were already going to kill yourself so mission accomplished.
2) I'd recommend you look into the Shikoku 88 pilgrimage. I did it a few years ago in the summer, brutal, but life changing. It's about 800-1000 miles depending on the route you take and you visit 88 main Buddhist temples on the island of Shikoku, Japan. Locals sometimes give you food, money, shelter, etc as a way of participating in your pilgrimage. Read up on it or I could give you more info if you're interested.
What areas around Texas are fun? I'm flying from Norway to Houston in June, trying to decide where to go after and where to fly home from.
I'm considering a rough itinerary of Houston - New Orleans - Memphis - Atlanta, probably with two weeks after leaving Houston. I like going to small music venues, cycling/hiking and cooking, just to name some things.
>>1096572
>What areas around Texas are fun?
None really. I like Texas but for the most part that isn't their culture. They'll tell you it's fun, but you won't enjoy it.
You may enjoy Memphis.
>>1096574
I was kinda worried to hear that. What about Nashville?
>>1096572
It's gonna be pretty horrible weather here in June, but Austin's got a lot of great food and live music everywhere.
>really obscure but still interesting spots you want to travel to thread
I'm making it my goal to go to the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands this year, about a thousand miles away from the Falkland Islands. Supposedly there are no indigenous peoples and only a handful of people actually live there year round.
Rugged as fuck, surrounded by glaciers and requiring a very skilled sailor to navigate in the treacherous waters of the southern ocean... once you reach there the local fauna aren't afraid of humans since they've never really had contact with them. Hunting is illegal and so are guns even for self defense... It's almost regressing to a caveman situation.
I'd love to do something like this, but whenever I see the price tag for that kind of expedition, I realize I could spend the money on six months in Thailand instead.
>>1096562
Everything is a balance anon, and you can also for that money live a year in your mom's house playing video games.
I'm not going to lie and say Thailand isn't fun but how many people do you meet that can actually have claimed to been to these remote South Atlantic Islands?
>>1096565
Well if it's just about adding inches to your travelpenis, how many people are you going to meet that actually care?
hey guys, I'm visiting Japan this summer and will be landing in Tokyo. Any suggestions on where to go shopping for fashion, places to eat in Tokyo and nearby cities?
>>1096290
Literally everywhere and all the cities
how old are you?
I'm 22
For as far as I know, it's not very common here. Anyone who has done it here, and has some advice or information?
It's easy. At least before all this terrorist shit - I don't know if that changes things.
The only hard countries were Spain and Italy (which is weird because they're the friendliest ones). Easiest were Germany and France. But even countries like Sweden and Norway which everyone says is impossible weren't all that bad.
>>1096240
Where did you start (truck stops, on the highway, etc.)? Have you been in The Netherlands and Belgium?
>>1096241
Dude Europe is easy mode for hitchhiking. Just stand anywhere a car can stop. Signs will be your friend. Don't be an idiot and stand on a motorway where nobody has time/room to stop. Try to look and act like a friendly normal dude.
I've hitchhiked all over Western and Eastern Europe last year and had very little trouble.
Me and 3 of my male friends looking for a budget travel destination. We are from Turkey and what we are looking for these;
"travel cheap, nightlife, hot climate (tropical if possible), great beaches, easy sex, hot girls receptive to white tourists and most importantly beautiful nature"
Our biggest expense will be the plane tickets so we are aiming to have a comfortable vacation as cheap as possible, be able to rent a house or stay in a hostel for a month, eat good street-traditional food, be able to party hard and just have fun.
The cheaper the better. We can spend 20$/day max I suppose.
>travel cheap, nightlife, hot climate (tropical if possible), great beaches, easy sex, hot girls receptive to white tourists and most importantly beautiful nature
With all this characteristics, the once country that cames to my mind is Thailand.
What do you think?
>>1096063
Yea a friend of mine has recommended Thailand. My only concern is the expenses. Can we manage a comfortable 1 month trip in a Major city in Thailand with 20-25$/day?
We arent really into prostitution tho. Picking up girls is like a hobby for us. I mean, we love it. We love the thrill, we love the adventure of it. When paying for sex is very very common, do people really meet regular chicks or are most of em professionals?
Other than that, the food, the climate, the nature, the nightlife... They all appeal us to be honest.
>>1096057
What about hungary? They don't use the euro and I used to spend about 15-20 usd a day (plus acomodations) to survive when I visited the country 4 years ago,
I'll be going to Busan for about 5 days and I'd like to ask for any advice/experiences any of you might have regarding places, things to do, how to get around, etc... In case it's useful info: it'll be my first time in Korea and I don't know any Korean.
even if you don't like seafood or if you're vegetarian, please suspend that for busan. it's a great place for seafood. i'm not really into seafood, but the markets there are just amazing. probably one of te
you can either have like a nice fresh soup at one of the stalls, or just go inside one of the market buildings, pick something at random, have it prepared for you...
some random foods listed here: http://www.korea.net/NewsFocus/Travel/view?articleId=133001
might worth to read up on korean food before you go. from marinated crabs to penis fish, you can find really fresh ones there.
http://chincha.co.uk/2013/05/5-korean-foods-for-adventurous-eaters/
...this if course if you're into trying local stuff. don't worry, there's mcdonald's near the fish market, too, if you want to escape korean food.
next to the jagalchi food market, there's a lotte mart with a cafe and a sightseeing spot at the top. from the centre it's a good (and free) place to look around and chill.
for me, the most important thing to do in korea is to eat and shop the most i can, and so i can list a crazy amount of meals that might worth trying...
others' pics: http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/06/snapshots-from-south-korea-the-best-things-i-slideshow.html
you don't need to know any korean i think. on public transport and in public spaces everything is also written in english, announcements on public transport are made in korean and english (and japanese and chinese).
you can get a t money card at the airport already if you're planning on using public transport. (you can also pay with it at convenience stores, some taxis, etc.)
visa and mastercard are widely accepted. well i didn't try at the market, there you'll probably need cash.
http://etour.busan.go.kr/index.busan?menuCd=DOM_000000202010000000 for some ideas...
i think busan international film fest is also around this time...? not sure. the cinema building at night is fun to look at, you might want to drop by.

The largest department store building in the world. It ain't Macy's.
There's English bars like Wolfhound and Sharky's in Haeundae.
Popular clubs are Grid and Fix
Thursday Partys in Seomyeon and Nampo are fun. The shopping in both places are good too.
What do you do in an Airport to keep yourself busy?
Got 32hr's stuck in LA, Dallas and Sydney.

How does that happen? Aren't the airlines supposed to provide you with accommodation? Or is this the result of your planned itinerary?
ANY ADVICE FOR CROSS COUNTRY DRIVING i am living in Maryland and tmrw I shall be driving from Maryland to California
>>1095671
Go to Tennessee. Not faggot Memphis but Eastern side to the Smoky Mountains. It's the only free National Park...well.. in the nation! Big Ridge in Union County above Knoxville has a Beautiful hike on a mountain next to a lake with some fantastic forest scenery. but gimme a sec and I'll post a map with the route I think you should take (generally) itll be a long trip though
>>1095671
It'll be a long trip. Probably 3 days of driving at the minimum. If you're passing through Texas, stop at a Buc-ee's if you see one. They're pretty great. Uhh... gee I dunno. I did a comparable trip not too long ago. Georgia to Arizona. I'm not sure what advice to impart besides common sense stuff. Like if you get tired, just pull your ass over and sleep at a rest area. Keep right except to pass, etc, etc. If you don't have a AAA membership, get one. It might save your ass and you'll get discounts at most motels. Also, don't bring any drugs with you or anything illegal. There are border patrol checkpoints all over the Southwest, which occasionally have sniffing dogs. Freaked me out the first time I drove through one, because I thought I had accidentally driven into Mexico. Speaking of which, don't accidentally drive into Mexico. That would be bad.
Another thing is don't speed. Your chances of getting caught are much, much higher over nearly 3,000 miles so it's not worth it. I can't tell you how many times I saw someone fly past me only to be pulled over by a State Trooper just ten minutes down the road.
If you want a shower, you can take one at a truck stop for like $10ish. Look for Love's, Flying J, Pilot, Petro, TA. I'm sure there's more.
>>1095671
It depends on which part of California and if you want to do scenic routes, touristy see the sights stuff, or just get there as quick as you can. I would say take the I-40 straight across the nation with would land you about 45 minutes NE from Los Angeles. My family has gone across there many many times. The roughest part is from Arizona to Eastern California where there is a stretch where there is 1 gas station and a weird knock-off dairy queen and literally nothing but a state penitentiary for miles. but the 40 is the most direct and you can branch off from there very easily once you hit Barstow.
But year which type of trip you taking (see list in above paragraph)?
Besides Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, what are the must see places of Russia?
Sochi is the first thing to came to mind.
I believe it was first made famous when it was frequented by the Russian monarchy for Summer holidays. And of course, more recently with the Olympics debacle. There is still some stuff to see there, most notably the new Sochi Park amusement park with its decent set of roller coasters, but overall I would rather skip it and just stick with Moscow and St. Petersburg. There is actually a better amusement park in St. Petersburg called Wonder Island (I believe it has the best roller coaster ensemble in all of Russia). As for parks in Moscow, there is the All-Russian Exhibition Centre, which has a few rides, but they are mainly carnival-type rides. The main draw there is all the former Soviet stuff on display (it used to be a permanent expo for Soviet Union achievements).
>>1095408
Is there any cool nature in Russia? I heard some people liked the trans-siberian railway but I've also heard that it was just a boring train ride.
>>1095526
>I heard some people liked the trans-siberian railway but I've also heard that it was just a boring train ride.
It might be interesting for you to ride in 3rd class and meet Russian people. However, you might also hate people (or at least, Russian people), especially if you get stuck with a bunch of shithead alcoholics or young army conscripts.
You might also want to ride in 1st class with a friend/partner and enjoy it in relative privacy. Either way, doing it soon would be a good idea because the ruble is very weak right now.
There are a few cool cities along the way. Moreover, there are probably very few instances when you will otherwise pass by Mongolia.
I would recommend searching for it on Youtube...This is a good series, although I wonder how much he might have planned in advance (such as the Russians he meets and parties with early on):

Visiting Japan and South Korea for a week each while visiting some friends teaching in China. I'll be an at least moderately attractive white male staying in hostels in Tokyo and Seoul. What am i gonna be up for to get some ass on the side.
>>1095377
>I'll be an at least moderately attractive white male
Are you a immoderately attractive black woman now? Or perhaps an unattractive Asian trans-sexual?
>What am i gonna be up for
Well, apparently you're up for changing your sex and skin color. Honestly, I'm concerned for your mental health, anon.
>baka gaijin
You still need to be charming and funny.
Going traveling alone in Taiwan for 5 weeks. Anyone got any advice on keeping safe? Taiwan general.
Keeping safe?
Unless you're 10 months old, you should be fine.
>>1095159
Anything I should avoid from doing? Any places to recommend?
>>1095163
Smoking in public spaces may be forbidden in certain places, even if it's outside. I don't really have a lot to recommend as I only went there for a conference and visiting a university. Taipei is pretty cool, but I wish I was there on a holiday instead.
Taipei seemed more quiet and relaxed than other smaller places (I don't really like the activity of the markets at night in smaller cities).
Name that place...
>>1094865
Is it the Goat Tower?
>>1094870
Nope.
The Shit Hole?
I am a girl from Canada. A week ago, I realised that I was selected for a three-week exchange trip to Germany. I have an online friend whom I've been talking to for more than 2 years and he lives very close to Munich. My uni does not offer any exchange opportunities to Munich so I picked Berlin , but I plan to stay behind and travel to Munich and other German cities later on.
My parents are thinking about joining me after visiting Berlin. I think it is awkward if they come along when meeting an online friend. I don't have any German friends irl, so I cannot lie about how I know him irl. I can't even lie about how I met him as an exchange student at my uni in Canada. My dad went to the same uni as me and he can easily tell that I am lying if he sees my online friend irl and my online friend cannot describe my uni. My parents had a "no talking to people" rule when I was a kid.
What should I do to make this less awkward? Also, it is dangerous for me to do this? Should I not meet him at all?
You're asking this on 4chan; I hope you know what kind of response to expect.
I'm sure you have a decent gauge of the dude's character after two years. But ooh, yeah, it's a sticky situation. My two cents is that truth is always the best policy.
Or if you lie you could say "remember when my friend X spent a year abroad in Germany? You don't? Well while she was there she met this really nice guy and she's asked him to show me around the place..."
>>1094734
hey bavarian guy here
I live about 1 hour from munich
whats his hometown called?
meet him public so you are safe and you can assess him better
>>1094734
>My uni does not offer any exchange opportunities to Munich so I picked Berlin
Semesters abroad should be something you could get from any uni in your country and be applicable to your degree wouldn't it? Check that out too.
I grew up on IRC in tech channels, and have a seriously close set of friends numbering in the dozens still over 20 years later. I felt that it would be awkward too to have online friends meet family like they weren't "real friends" or whatever prejudices your parents might have about the validity of forums, online communities, or stranger-danger online. I suggest you either divide your time between family and friend entirely like your first 2 days with him, and they fly in a couple days later, at which point you're either not simpatico/sick of this other person, or you adequately know each other well enough in person to mix with parents for PART of the day. Realize that this isn't the best time to be sleeping with someone, sharing a room or something else amoral if you want to do this right. In the meantime, having a friend to speak a language with, or considering the whole world your dating pool, isn't ridiculous of you, the only immature thing you can do is ignore common sense about caution, being too close too fast relationshipwise, lying/hiding behaviors, or whatever you think your parents would truly disapprove of illustrating your shit for brains.
I would also suggest anyone dying to meet their online friend would train it over in the 3 weeks you'll be in a neighboring city, and spend a half day with you doing the touristed sights in Berlin.
Let me green text my current situation
> 25 yo
> mechanical engineer
> been depressed for years
> without job but almost 1 year of experience
I'm sick of this situation. I’m from Spain and it’s impossible to find a fucking job here (unemployment rate for young people is almost 50% kek).
I want to leave this fucking country asap. I would like to find a job abroad, and if it’s possible, related with my studies. I’m thinking of going for example to Ireland or UK (or USA why not?) and live in a hostel until I find a suitable job. I know this process can last from some weeks to several months but I don’t care as long as it helps me to put my shit together.
I would like to work in the hostel where I live in exchange for free accommodation until I find a job. Do you think it’s feasible or it’s retarded?
Please help me sharing similar experiences.
The Spanish have a reputation for being lazy. Why can't you get a job in McDonalds or a coffee shop to save up money until you find something better?
You can't just decide to move to the USA and go. You need to sponsored by a company for a H1B visa or else marry an American. Don't bother moving to Ireland or the UK. The blacks and Muslims have already taken all the jobs at hostels and coffee shops etc.
>>1094502
>until I find a job
No. Find a job before you go somewhere, doing it in reverse is far more risky.
>Ireland to find a job
Good idea, or Greece.
Can Spanish citizens get working holiday visas for New Zealand or Australia? It only allows you to work for six months, but you can definitely get a high-paying engineering job with a contractor, and if you're good you might even get a sponsorship for a proper work visa.
