Calling all Ukrainians:
Is it safe to travel to the western parts of Ukraine? Kiev, Lvov, Odessa etc?
I'm a British Citizen with a British passport, but I was born in Ukraine. I don't have a Ukrainian passport and I'm not sure if I have Ukrainian citizenship. It does say of course in my passport that I was born there.
Is it safe for me to travel there? I used to go frequently, but that was before maidan. Haven't been there since
I should specify:
I don't mean safe as in safe from military activities like in the East, but rather safe as in not getting stopped in the streets because I speak Russian or getting held up at the borders because I was born there and getting conscripted or something
>>1108824
Yeah.. It's pretty much safe out there. Lots of russian speaking tourists in Lviv. Noone really cares about it (And Odessa is almost 100% russian speaking city). And nope, no conscription at the borders
Western Ukraine is basically the same as it was before

what about corrupt toll / border patrol seeking to make a buck
Guys, I haven't flown overseas in 6 years on account of living in AUSTRALIA. I'm going to Europe this June, but whenever I go searching for tickets I can only find south east Asian airlines offering tickets that I can afford and it makes me really anxious. I would prefer to fly with Qantas or Emirites but I just can't spend 3k on tickets.
Do you guys feel anxious flying with budget airlines, or do you just not give a shit? How do you deal?
>>1108774
Budget airlines still have to abide by the same safety standards if that's what you're worried about. The only difference is in service, it's usually shittier. I fly budget airlines all the time cause I'm a cheap jew but I don't have big expectations for flying, I just want to use them to get from point a to b.
No, not really. As a fellow ausfag, I get worried for maybe 30 mins after the plane takes off, then I'm just bored and nauseous for the next 8-14 hours. You need to become a bit of a nihilist for that flight.
Singapore Airlines is top-tier, or at least I thought it was last time I flew with them. Thai isn't bad either - I flew with them through Lufthansa, and the Thai flight crew and service was a lot nicer than the Germans (the Lufthansa flight from Bangkok to Frankfurt didn't even have TVs.)
Related - Qantas is shit and far, far too overpriced for what you get.
>>1108774
Try flying with Singapore or Thai if you can.
You might get this a lot but
How do you make friends when you're travelling alone?
Never made any desu; got laid a few times but that's it (through Tinder)
>>1108680
But then how can you go out and have fun without friends.
>>1108677
>How do you make friends when you're travelling alone?
You talk to people and see if they want to do something.
Most people sitting around in a hostel are happy to go see some sites with whoever is around.
What's the best way to get from Helsinki to Tallinn? I know it's by ferry but which service is the best? For some reason this issue is causing me a lot of anxiety. There are several different services and a lot of them have bad reviews or are too expensive. I almost booked with a service called Linda Line but backed out after the reading of their excessive and unexpected cancelations, not to mention their extremely sketchy payment system for there website.
Anyways what is the best way to get between the two cities? Is booking ahead necessary or could I pay at the time of service without risk of a ship being overbooked?
Thanks for your help /trv/!
Estonian here.
I don't know what sites you've been using and I don't have much experience either as I live in Tartu but you might find this site useful:
laevapiletid .ee /en
Don't think it's much use worrying about bad reviews if all you need to do is cross the bay, which admittedly is still a bit tricky for how much traffic there is.
It'd probably be smart to book ahead in terms of both ticket prices and overbooking, which might or might not be a problem, depending on when you're going.
If you have any more questions, shoot and I'll do my best to answer
>>1108660
Thanks for the reply, I think I've decided on Eckerö Line. They are cheap and they sail directly from city center to city center.
Since I have your attention, there were a few other questions I was hoping you could answer. What is best way to travel in-between the baltic countries. After Tallinn I will be going to Riga and Finally Vilnius. I've heard the train systems in the Baltics are not quite up to the standards of other European countries, however I've read that buses are cheap and very reliable for long distance traveling in the Baltic's. What would you recommend?
Again, thanks for the help!
While they are convenient between getting from city to city, it's true that the current train lines don't have many connections and they certainly don't connect between the baltics at the moment, those plans are still underway.
Buses are a good choice if you want to save some mad dosh. Luxexpress and Ecolines are the two buslines you can check out, sometimes they have capital to capital transfers for pretty much pocket change.
Superbus is another budget company that I use to go to Tallinn sometimes for like 2€, and word went around that they're planning on opening routes to Riga in May.
When taking a bus it's certainly smarter to plan ahead and book early on the internet. That's guaranteed to save money and time.
I'm looking to bring my PC from my home in the UK to where I'm going to be staying in Canada for a few years, whats the best method to get my PC there? Should I send it by mail or is it feasible to bring it in a checked bag?
>>1108556
you're going to mail it. I wouldn't trust an airline to my rig
>>1108634
Why not? because sometimes your bag can go missing?
>>1108638
Because they throw your stuff around from the second you check it in till baggage claim no fucks given.
Depending on which airport you fly to the ground crew might throw it from the plane or drop it a few times to/from the plane...
Anyone else think NYC is extremely overrated?
Not really. I find most of the people who say that tend to also reek of bitter jealousy.
I wouldn't want to live there but it's a great travel destination in the fall.
No
I think. It's just another big city as any other with burguers.
I would like to go to other places than NYC.
Hey guys,
I'm a guy from Holland, 19 years old and I don't really know what the fuck to do with my life. After may I'm graduating and I don't wanne rush into college before I have seen more of the world and know what I really want to do. after my exams, I wanne work for a few months and save some money. So I can travel around the end of September. I can't really find someone to travel with and going alone seems lonely too. As for a destination, I just thought about touring Europe but I'm up for other things as long as it doesn't cost too much. I'm interested in traveling with both male and female. I'm gay so ladies might be more comfortable traveling with me but honestly, I'm not fucking interested in anything romantic, so if your a straight guy I promise I won't rape you and we could travel just fine ;-).
send an email if your interested to: [email protected]
Cheers
ps: no rapist and serial killers plzzz
>t. totally not murderer
I was actually thinking of making a post like this because I'll be traveling alone and thought it might be good to meet up with some anons. But seeing an actual post like this reminds me I'm on 4chan and going solo is the better option.

Can you still hitch-hike across the US?
only if you're attractive
>>1108317
I saw some hitchhikers yesterday. But I just kept driving, in my empty minivan.
>>1108317
It's still doable. Just be sure to clap as loud as you can once the car is within seven feet of you.
Greenland Thread
I'd really like to go visit Greenland this or next summer when it's warmer there and just explore the whole place like the nice little villages, the islands, icebergs, glaciers, ice caps and everything there. I'm just really fascinated by the place and how people live there and I'd really like to explore as much as the country as possible and I want t camp and hike while I'm there. I know it's really expensive there but that's not an issue since I have the money but I need to make the time.
Has anyone here been to Greenland before?

*Note about the JR Rail Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.
Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥
Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

>Kabukicho has the best kappuru-kisa
Olive21? It's good, but my gf and I are trying to find a different place. Olive21 is crazy and very good for just pure action, but we'd like to find something that has more space and actually has a legit bar and lounge area.
If anyone has any good couple kissa (or happening bar) recommendations I'm all ears.
How much did you spend every day in Tokyo? Aside from lodging.
>>1108251
You mean how much will you spend? On average? I live here so I've never strictly experienced Tokyo just as a visitor/tourist, but I would say it really varies depending on what you're into. Obviously if you're a clubbing/nightlife person you will spend significantly more than someone who is not.
The whole "Japan is really expensive" thing is somewhat of a meme, it's pretty reasonable compared to big international cities like New York and London. But an expense that will add up fast is transportation. Trains are kind of pricey here.
It's hard to give an estimate, but I'd say at least have 5,000-10,000 yen in your pocket a day, adjust according to your plan. I mean some days you will have a nice dinner at good restaurant, some days you probably won't. You can eat quite cheaply here. Any establishment where you press buttons to choose your food and then give a ticket to the server will be quite cheap, usually 500-700 yen per meal. Of course for me, when I travel, food is probably the main attraction, so obviously you don't want to just eat at Matsuya all the time.
So /trv/, I'm planning a backpacking trip alone but am afraid of a scenario in which I don't talk to anyone or anything during the trip. Have you traveled alone? What's it like
>>1108242
Why does that scare you?
Are you a spagetthi lord back home? Why do you think that will change if you're some place else?
Are you a normie/Chad back home? Why do you think that will change if you're some place else?
>>1108242
Not OP but...
>Are you a spagetthi lord back home? Why do you think that will change if you're some place else?
You're away from your regular life and the people you are forced to deal with regularly. Fewer consequences and no one to judge you. That might make a spaghetti monster more bold.
>Are you a normie/Chad back home? Why do you think that will change if you're some place else?
Being in a new surrounding and out of your comfort zone where you're not accustomed to culture or language could certainly make an outgoing normie more spaghetti or beta.
See what I mean?
I will be embarking on a trip to London in a couple of months. No car will be available, but the London Underground seems fit for my daily commute (Marble Arch-Liverpool Street).
Anything I should be aware of? Muggers? Buggers? Gypsies? Giant spiders? Victorian ghosts? Eurabian suicide bombers? Her Majesty dancing about in underoos during the five bongers?
Anything I should be mindful about when interacting with brits?
Also, what can you eat for cheap in London?
I worked in London and took the underground every day.
I don't know where are you from but it's clean enough, I haven't seen any gypsy so far, probably because you need to use your ticket (or oyster card) for BOTH entering and exiting.
Unlike Paris. Damn, the London Underground is like heaven if you're from Paris.
>>1108187
The only place you need to worry about buggers is Soho or the catholic church, mate.
Hey /trv/,
First time poster here looking for advice on traveling to Geneva. I plan to stay for 13 days (12 nights) and was wondering if there are cheaper options from housing (eg. temporary room mate, etc...) to circumvent the hotels. Also, any suggestions of where to visit? I'll most likely be traveling solo. This is my first unaccompanied trip to Europe, although I have spent quite a bit of time in Bulgaria and Eastern Turkey. Any general tips/suggestions are also welcome!
>>1108181
Why would you go to Geneva for 13 days? It's a extremely expensive small city that can be done in one day.
As for options AIrBnB is always a option as well as staying anywhere towards Lausanne as price will drop as soon as you leave the city lines.
>>1108188
I gave it some though and decided I'm just gonna be traveling around Europe. I'm going to Spain first, then Geneva for a couple days, then probably Bulgaria and Turkey. I'll finish it off with a flight to Bahrain to visit some friends. I'm probably just going to be training around in Europe since I have a Bulgarian passport, too.
>>1108482
Like the other anon said, don't waste more than a day in Geneva. Seriously. You will get bored very fast. There are plenty of options nearby, you can easily take a train from Geneva to anywhere else in Switzerland, or to France, even Italy or Germany.
Ameriburger here, I am heading to Montreal this summer for a week and a half starting June 26th and will be there during Canada Day. If I knew Quebec's national holiday is on June 24th I would have booked during that time, but it's okay with me
I'm definitely checking out La Ronde since I like roller coasters and going up to Mount Royal, but is there anything else I should check out? What foods should I eat, what bars or clubs should I go to? What is Canada Day like in Montreal and what things I should do on that day?
I might also take a day trip to Quebec City, is there anything interesting there I should look at?
>Quebec's national holiday
Implying those welfare frogs are a nation
Why is there a thread about Montreal every couple days here and why do their OPs never bother to fucking use google?

Hello guys i am thinking of realizing a dream of mine, i will be making a video-journey from India, Nepal and Tibet on foot. while sleeping on the open throughout the whole journey
what do I need to get and how much should I save?
Any recommendations and tips are grateful for I have never done such a thing before.
thx
>>1108150
Buy good shoes and be prepared to buy new ones on the way when these ones get worn out.
When you say sleeping on the open, you mean in a tent, right? You have to remember there might be rain, bugs, and other things that making sleeping under the stars kinda shitty compared to even sleeping under a tent.
where are you going to post the videos
