Hoping you guys could clear this up for me. Im a US native that also holds an Irish passport. My dad advised me to exit with the US passport and enter Ireland with the Irish passport, and vice versa. However, I've read Irish citizens need a visa to travel to the US.
So, if I try to exit Ireland at the end of my trip with the Irish passport does that mean they'll ask for a visa? Am I better off just using my US passport the whole trip?
>>1139865
The "visa" you would need to fill out as a person carrying an Irish passport is ESTA...which is not officially a visa, but sort of when you figure you have to pay for it and do something even if it's a minor inconvenience.
If I were you, I would always use your American passport unless you are traveling through Europe or to a country which makes American citizens apply for a visa or pay an entry fee which is not required of Irish citizens (example: Brazil).
I'll use this thread.
I have an EU passport and an Australian one.
I'm going to China and Japan soon enough. I have visa for China on my Australian passport.
I want to exit the EU with my EU passport, but obviously enter China and Japan with my Australian passport.
They don't give a shit where you're from right, as long as your visa is eligible for entry?
Curious about something, maybe you guys can shed some light: does it not raise issues when you do this sort of thing, and now have a passport that, for example, shows you exiting and re-entering EU 20 days later, never having been entered anywhere in between?
I know that used to raise issues with Americans who travelled to Cuba, and had this obvious gap in their passports where they went to Mexico, exited Mexico, re-entered Mexico but had no stamps showing for that time in Cuba -- if customs/immigration was otherwise suspicious, that confirmed that they needed to strip-search your luggage...
Tell me about Leiden. I'm contemplating going there for my master's degree, i.e. living there for two years. Is it a nice city to live in for such a long time? Are Dutch people friendly towards other Europeans living in their country? Is it expensive?

Dutchfag here. Not really well known in Leiden though. But it's a nice city with many cultural/language/law and medicine studies. It's probably better to find an appartment to live in, if you compare with Amsterdam. It's situated in short distance of int. airport Schiphol, Amsterdam and Den Haag. But Rotterdam is pretty closeby as well.
Cannot comment on our friendliness, however for foreign people it's pretty easy in Holland since ninety% speak English. I think it's not really expensive, not cheap either. It's way cheaper than England and Scandinavia. But might be more expensive than Mediterranean countries and East-Europe.
I don't know where you're from. But many EU countries have special sponsorhips for international students. For example studying in Denmark is free and you receive some college fund. In the Netherlands you'll have to pay like two thousand euro's for a years college. As a dutch citizen I receive 260 euros a month (but this will probably not be likewise for you). Belgium is cheaper as well in terms of college fee.

Thanks! I'm from Norway, so everywhere I go is cheaper... I only have to pay 2000€ per year in Leiden, as opposed to 20,000€ for non-EU/EEA, which is one of my main reasons for considering it.
Badump guise.
Is Dutch a hard language to learn?
I have never traveled to S.E.A. though I have been just about everywhere else in the world. I think it's finally time for me to head over, though I may be on a very tight budget. $2,000 for two weeks, including flight out from Los Angeles.
Originally I wanted to visit Singapore, Thailand, and Cambodia; but now it looks like I will just have to limit that to Thailand.
Does /trv/ have any good hostel recommendations? By good I mean either: really clean, excellent location, or good party scene; I don't expect to find all three qualities in one place, just want to let everyone know I'm open to different views and definitions of 'good'

I work as a car-transporter for my dad and he is
offering me to pick up a car at the border of
Czech. He says that if I want I could leave the
car there at the company and have a road trip
as long as I like on my own.
So that is pretty cool, I will have the entire van
for myself to sleep in and carry all my shit and
literally go anywhere I want.
The downside of this all is, because this is all
so last-minute planned no friend of mine can
come along with me to join the trip.
I have traveled alone before in my life, but I
always have had a certain destination where I
meet up with others. This time I am all by
myself.
I am planning to sleep in youth hostels or
campings along my trip, but eventhough I am
not a shy type of person I am a bit afraid to end
up alone in an unpleasant matter.
So I usually do not have a problem meeting
people and such but this time I do not have a
certain destination or whatsoever so I feel a bit
different about this. Does anybody have tips or
experiences?

So the arrow on the map is where I will be stationed, from there out my trip starts to wherever I want.

Bumping for my own fortunate
I'm going to be in Prague for a week in mid-September (14th-21st).
Is there any must-see shit that isn't commonly mentioned in travel guides (wencelas square, astro clock, charles bridge, etc)
It all sounds great, but I was looking to break from the tourist path. Any suggestions?
Privats (apartment brothels) are cheap as hell, like $40 an hour. Jump on it!

This isn't in that many guidebooks unless very new ones, and it's an interesting treasure of Europe where reparations to restore property to rightful owners actually included all the treasures, nothing stolen by the nazis or the communists, or sold off by destitute europeans post-war. It's a nearly intact family estate with a princely history (and they were benefactors to Beethoven and various artists), where their works persist and have never been on display anywhere ever before, nor in your textbooks anywhere. It has limited hours, so check them before you plan what you will do each of your walking tour days of your trip.

>>1142668

sounds cool, what exactly did you buy?
I'm a hispanic american, grew up poor, but now I live comfortably as an adult and I want to vacation out of the US; something my family never did growing up. I don't speak Spanish but I'm very brown. I know it might seem a weird thing to bring up, but I'm very weary of traveling outside of the US.
I mean I WANT to travel to a different country every year or so, but since I'm an American but not white, how can I expect to be treated in other countries? Is this a good or bad thing? I'm a decently handsome guy, but will white ladies in other countries be down for the D? Will brown ladies in Latin countries laugh at me for not speaking Spanish? I'm fine with the laughing desu, I'm a sad excuse for a mexican american, but will it be a deal breaker for people? Will natives in most countries treat me favorably or like I get treated by a car dealer in a majority caucasian town?

Wait. fuck, I thought I was on /g/ for a second. sorry.

I remember being in Norway with a manlet Mexican American and he bagged a tall blonde qt3.14 where his head rested comfortably on her bosom, while standing. I have seen Hispanics do fine in Asia as well, and in the Middle East with Asians. Also with Northern Europeans women at hostels and party destinations in SEA. That's the extent of my personal knowledge with Hispanics.

It looks great, friend, but it is like a lot of other Japanese stuff being available online.
If you are the one making these videos, focus on non-standard stuff and include video in the correct screen aspect ratio (which is 16:9 for most people).
I have a seven hour layover in New York. How easy is it to get to stuff like Grand Central Station and Central Park from the airport? Anything really special to do in New York (stuff you wouldn't find online)?
>>1142321
And I'm landing in JFK.
>>1142322
JFK is not as close to Manhattan as you might think. For only 7 hours I'd stay inside Queens, check out a restaurant in Flushing or go to Astoria.

This chick on tumblr posted a few pics of her in a beautiful location, and I'd like to know where it is. Anyone mind helping?

Going to Prague with a friend for 4 days and wasn't sure which date to pick,is there a day/s in the week I should avoid?like I know some places in the world doesn't have their stores/museums and other places on a sunday or a saturday.
We are planning to visit bars, museums and other local sites and don't want to waste a day so please tell me which 4 days of the week we should pick.
>>1142291
idk but once i cut open a blister while climbing a pole in prague while drunk and bled all over the Charles Bridge
and then I went to some bar that served out of a shipping container next to the river. It was great. Quiet, nice atmosphere. Met some cool people there.
Everyone hypes up the pub crawl in Prague but its not that great, unless you want to get drunk with 100+ random people.
>>1142298
Kek nice story anon.
Anyone?
>>1142291
Make sure the places that you are interested are actually open any day of the week. I was just in Prague and the National Museum is closed for renovations that will take years.
I was there for 4 days with my girlfriend and there was nothing that was closed on a specific day when we wanted to get in.
Keep in mind, the museums in Prague are generally shit.
Thinking of going to Tokyo Seoul or Thailand
What's the sweet spot length wise for you guys?
I was thinking a week but I only get one weekend
2 weeks can get pricey, longer is cheaper but accommodations are pricey as well.
Honestly going to enjoy the night life and take photos and videos. I've lived in Korea, been to Japan twice (thinking of going to find a wife)
and never been to Thailand.
>>1142270
Been to all three,
Japan = expensive
Seoul = expensive
Thailand = inexpensive, warm water, great food, easy to get around
Arrived back from my trip to Toronto. I am amazed at how practically every corner downtown has beggars. Whats the deal with that? I didn't even see that many in New york.
times is tough, Canada has quite a bit of oil and the cost has been very low.

HOW COULD I FORGET YOU WALLY
I didn't get hassled too much when I was there in April. I had to dodge their slowly dying bodies on the street, especially since it snowed a few times when I was there.
I'm a sheltered guy and vacation is this week. Figured I would jump on the Amtrak to D.C. tomorrow. Stay a night or two - not really sure.
So far my plan is to check out a few bars, visit the natural history museum, and read a book near the monuments. Anything else important to do or see?
Make sure you get to the Air and Space Museum. Nothjing like it anywhere.
>>1142238
Sounds like a good plan, OP. Plenty to do. Good eats. Read washingtonian magazine or the smithsonian website to see if there are any traveling exhibits that interest you at various sights, just in case you didn't know! I always find the best treasures that way, something odd and usual that way, as well as restaurant rankings on washington post.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/goingoutguide/
Smithsonians are free. My favorite is natural history too, the gems specifically. One of the museums will have a night event for afterhours, but only one! The top two non-free non-smithsonian museums are Spy and Newseum. My favorite air and space Udvar, is out by dulles airport and more difficult without a vehicle or reason to be so far west. It's worth it, however. Enola Gay is there and you can get inside a control tower simulation with live traffic and images from the airport.
It. Is. Hot. right now to be in DC, and you'll notice the blocks are long...you will want to wake early for any walking/exploring and then get into the A/C inside a museum, in my opinion. The bar and live music scene at the Clarendon metro might be safest evening for ya. Where did you pick to stay? That might determine where you should hunt for bars. There's a famous rooftop one that is now top of the W hotel, which gives you a view right into the White House grounds and windows. Sequoia in Georgetown has a pretty potomac sunset view. Vietnamese food in northern virginia (various and of course pho choices) and some of the best steaks in the US and burgers (fave:Ray's hellburger), are probably the best foodie choices distinctive for the city. I love going in Dean and Deluca, almost all cupcake places, and there are a ton of hipster big politico kind of bars with bartenders slinging the classics, esp close to the white house.
A tropical storm is going hit sometime Saturday or Sunday. I was wondering if it would still be safe to go up there during the storm? If so would there be anything cool to see up there of the storm?
The mountain is at 10000ft btw
Nah man I wouldn't risk it. The top might be ok aside from being insanely windy but it seems everytime we get a little drizzle a shit ton of trees decide to fall right in the road all over Haiku and Kula. If that happens, you're gonna have a bad time because it means you'll be stuck up there in the actual storm for at least a few hours, or more if it's too bad for anyone to clear it.
