I want to travel to Germany, but I don't know much about the country. I can speak German, so is there anything else I can do? Any websites to use?

what do you want to see/do in Germany?
Every state has something different to offer.

Has anyone here moved Germany for school? Are there any hidden pitfalls or unexpected things you figured out in the course of doing so?
I'm aiming for Berlin and I'm American if that helps.

Wow great, what a shocker, just like 99% of your cuntrymen. Are you studying Feminist and Justice Studies or Street Theatre Set Design?
>>
>>1142239
I thought the most popular place for Americans to aim was Dresden or Juelich ;^)

Jokes aside, engineering, and Berlin seems like the strongest prospect, but I'm definitely open to other cities.

I'm not sure if I should even bother traveling. I'm a 21M Canadian that's never traveled alone before. I'm off school for 6 more months, and money isn't an issue.

In theory I've been bouncing ideas of somewhere in Asia that's not too poor or unusual, because I'm a noobie that could easily die, so maybe: South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan... But I feel like I'm going to go to these places, and just be completely unimpressed, and not enjoy it. Like I would be dragging myself through it. What do you guys think? Maybe I need a more specific idea in mind if I were to travel? Maybe I need to do something way way outside of my comfort zone?

1) Either you really can't afford it despite your money-no-object claims, or you need depression treatment. To "not bother" with someone is kind of weird language to use. Overall a lot of critical words in this deal.
2) Maybe you should go to Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong. You seem like you would be bothered too much in your depressed state to witness anything too upsetting.
>>
>>1140783
No, uh, I have the money, about 80k. (I didn't say money was no object, I said it wasn't a issue.)

I was just wondering anyone had the experience of traveling for first time and being unimpressed (I thought maybe it was common). Or maybe there are people that had the some of my concerns and after they landed they were pleasantly surprised.

What's upsetting in South Korea or Taiwan just out of curiosity?
>>
>>1140778
First time I left the country was to South Korea. Had a miserable trip. I was unimpressed, as you put it. Everything was so superficial, and Seoul was essentially New York, and everything outside of Seoul was essentially Soviet-era, which would have been fine if I had not traveled to Korea for modernity. Went to China after that, and it was a complete 180.

I would not go to South Korea. It is too familiar.

walk around, sit down and have a nice drink.

If you want to do the queue, you can get into the big church.

Beautiful city. I recommend getting off the big streets & just walking around in some small alleys

Yeah, and dont get caught by the tourist traps at St Mark's Square?

Take the waterbus down the length of the grand canal at night and then walk back.

DO NOT pay to go on a gondolier - one of the biggest fucking tourist traps in existence and ridiculously priced for what is essentially a very short boat ride.

Take a half-day trip to Murano and admire the glass works.

Just walk around a lot and enjoy the small avenues and winding pathways.

This time of year it's going to be hot which you might find unpleasant - there'll also be a fair amount of summer tourists too which will be annoying - just be aware of that.

Personally I thought Venice was nicer during the evenings or early mornings when less people are about.

It is in general one of the most touristic and pricey cities around.

I would recommend one food place which sold some great pasta for a very reasonable price though - see attached pic.

Why is England so fucking depressing? I'm here visiting and the country is nice, it is developed, there is a high quality of life, but everything here is so fucking SAD. People here are polite, but cold as fuck, and you can feel some tension or repressed aggressiveness in them. Can anyone please tell me what the deal is or is it just me?

I don't know if this is bait, but English behavior is normal. Would you prefer some parts of America where strangers walk around acting like they're on coke?
>>
>>1139407
It's not bait. I'm in Bristol at the moment and everything is so fucking dreary here. I can't explain it. It is nice, and developed and everything but there is like this bad energy everywhere. And it really can't be just the weather as I have lived in Canada in the past, and it is a very nice country to live in.
>>
>>1139407
Sorry that you're so afraid of normal friendliness mate

I went to Italy and you could talk to strangers there too. I think it's when you get far enough north, like 50 N maybe the oppressive weather just depresses everyone

How do i not piss off German people?

I have had three altercations with people in Berlin today, two because I had a frown on my face and they thought I was giving them a dirty look and the third because someone asked for my number and I said I'd only be able to message them when I get to wifi, after which they called me an asshole and said I was leading them on and wasting their time and that I should be truthful

Some bitchy middle aged woman looked at me and smirked too

None of the shopkeepers smile at all or try to be helpful

And everyone is so judgmental and elitist and too cool for school

I used to wonder how the German public could have let the holocaust happen but I think I know why now. They don't give a toss about anyone, and all their buildings are depressing to look at and its even more cliquey than American high schools

How do I even get along with these people? Should I just be rude back?

How do you handle unpaid-for guests of the customers, if at all?
>>
>>1133400
Whomever stays in a room with a guest is their business. They accept responsibility for their guests behaviours if they are in the room with their permission. Rates are by the room, not the guest # - sales just uses the guest numbers to track and analyze shit. That being said there are limits on the number of people who can be in a room of a certain size or type, but this is dictated by your states fire safety code. Ex. Our single kings can have a max of 5 occupants, I believe, legally.

Ever fucked any lonely MILFs? Or been asked to cuck some bald fat loser's wife? Or ever boned the Honduran maids?

Hey /trv/. Recently my grandfather passed away and I inherited his home in Arkansas. I plan on selling the home and buying a house somewhere in Europe. Probably somewhere in Spain, Italy, or France. What's the legality concerning this? Do I need some kind of residency visa to purchase the home? If I buy the house am I legally allowed to live in it and stay in the country without a visa?

What? Ofcourse not.
>>

>am I legally allowed to live in it and stay in the country without a visa?

if you are an EU citizen -Yes
if you are from outside EU - No

This will now become a huge problem for Brits owning and living in houses in Spain.
>>
>>1132360
It's possible to ask for a permanent residence card if you're a EU citizen living in another EU country for at least the last 5 years. It will allow you to keep living and working in the country if need be.

Hi guys,
I´m from Germany and I´ve got my motorcycle drivers licnense last week. I´m planning to make a wildcamping roadtrip through norway next year and I don't know, what bike i should buy, what gear I need and all the other stuff, like how to store alle my things on the bike, should I take an extra container for gas with me, etc.

Im on a bicycle trip through Europe, and I can tell that you don't need a tent like that. If it's your first tour then you're probably gonna pack more things than you truly need, but that's not necessarily such a bad thing, especially on a motor bike where weight doesn't matter that much.
>>
If I´m going wildcamping in Norway I have to camp a little bit away from the roads, so I´m not sure if a sportstourer is the best choice for those offroad tracks

Hi /trv/, been lurking quite a while, first time poster, so sorry for any misshaps.
Going travelling for the first ever really, and going solo, so am looking for any sort of advice/tips you might have. As I don’t actually know if I enjoy travelling at all, I’m staying fairly close to home, and have decided to tour Europe for 3 or 4 weeks. I’m leaving from Toulouse and doing Brussels->Amsterdam->Berlin->Prague->Budapest-> see from there (maybe Belgrade or start swinging back home through Croatia/ Italy).
Have a few questions that come to mind:
-Hostels: I’ve booked my hostels for Brussels and Amsterdam, but was wondering if you guys would recommend booking all the rest in advance? Or do you just turn up to hostels? Do it a couple before? I’ve been doing my booking on hostelworld.com, is that a good site?
-I’d quite like to go enjoy the night life/clubbing in Berlin, can anyone recommend a good hostel with this in mind? Not too expensive, but in a good location, and with a good atmosphere to meet people to go out with.
-Packing: Anything you’d recommend I should pack that I may not think of?
-Money: Any tips on carrying money? I’ve got a little shoulder bag for my day trips/nights out, do you guys carry all your money with you or leave some at hostel?
-Stuff to see: I’ve been following several threads about stuff to do in these various cities, so have a good list, but if you have anything you would definitely recommend (do/don’t) would love to hear it.
Sorry if this looks like I’m asking for handholding, I'm not really, I’m just leaving in 2 days, feeling pumped and nervous, don’t have anybody else really to ask these questions, and don’t have anybody I know to sort me out if things go wrong out there.

Skip brussels and spend a few days in copenhagen instead.
>>
>>1143337
Yea? Only staying there 2 nights and was told Brussels was quite a nice city. I actually decided to stop there because I'm car pooling up north from Toulouse, and Brussels is the furthest north I could find in a day trip, and needed a place to stay at the end of the day, so figured I may as well visit the place if I'm there. Is it really not worth it?
Copenhagen seems a bit off track for the itinerary I'd planned, isn't it also pretty expensive?
>>
This is actually very similar to the route I'm taking in the winter, I'm starting in Copenhagen, then Berlin>Prague>Vienna>Budapest>something else in Central Europe, maybe Zagreb or Belgrade>Rome>Florence>Madrid>Paris>Amsterdam.
I usually book in advance via hostelworld

Heya guys, so I might be travelling to Dubai during the first week of August.
Any tips? places to see? advice from locals? things to look out for? basically anything you think would be helpful for a first timer over there.

thanks in advance :)

Dubai is not very popular on this board. Some for its politics (Indian labor), some for its glitz (soullessness they would say), but it is actually a great place for leisure/recreational tourism. An adult playground. But you will not likely get too much advice here on that place.

My advice is to get alcohol from the duty free to preflight before going to clubs. Also order a "Blue Frog" at any club you go to, to save on alcohol cost. And make sure taxi drivers run the meter. Even if they quote you what you think would be a good price, meter is cheaper.

Hey /trv/ I was planning a eurotrip to UK,France,Germany,Italy and was just curious about boarder customs and taxation. If I buy expensive souvenirs in the UK and then fly to France, do I have to pay import/export tax or fees every time I enter a new country or is it like the U.S. where you can go between states without any hassles?

There are open borders between all the countries you mention. No problems.

That may change if/when Brexit happens, but exactly how all that will play out is not yet known.
>>
>>1142865
The tariffs and border security is only for your going home to the US.
Keep very good receipts and records together in an envelope. Where there is VAT charged or waived, you should have that paperwork all together and so its clear to anyone you aren't a shady type and not trying to hide where and when you bought something if anyone is searching you and your bags, say in France. No, they can't charge you, but you won't look like someone trafficking to finance a trip.
If you are able to ship items home each time you buy them, to a relative, you should. It's nice not having new valuables laying around each night at a hotel or in bags you have to check. Insurance is a good thing.
>>
>>1142898
>f you are able to ship items home each time you buy them, to a relative, you should.
Thanks anon, I was thinking about this but was worried it would cost a lot more then just flying home with them in carry on.

Is Lebanon OK to go to? Last thing I heard, the trash collectors in Beirut were all on strike so there's loads of garbage in the streets and the whole city stinks.

Also hasn't Lebanon taken on like 1 million Syrian refugees, which I imagine must cause a lot of tension and lead to a lot of noticeable poverty
>>

>Is Lebanon OK to go to?
US State Dept warns Americans not to go in very detailed warnings about 15 pages long. Government employees are forbidden from all personal travel. Why would Britain be any different? Well, they aren't. Check out the map that blocks out more than 50% of the metro city area of Beirut for safety reasons related to bombings last month and kidnappings.
