Nothing autistic about hitchhiking.

/trv/ is objectively the most Alpha board.

I've been living in Greece all my life but unfortunately this country is unable to sustain me financially any longer.

I will be moving to Arnhem since I got some Dutch relatives in the area, and I will immediately be looking for a job, part time to pay the rent at first (via uitzendbureaus) and then I will utilize my degree for something long term.

I already speak Dutch perfectly, I got an excellent degree in Engineering by a top Greek university (with a minimum 5 year study program, it translates to a Master's degree in the Netherlands). I'm still in my early 20s, I'm highly motivated and generally very excited.

Relatives are saying I need to register immediately for everything like social security, tax id and public house renting.

Anything I'm missing or any tips from the kaasboeren here?

should i bail? ive only been here a week but i said i would stay for a month

Fuck yea you should bail. Make sure to write a review about the couple hosting you as well. So others can avoid your fate. You don't owe them shit and if they're treating you disrespectfully then I would just pack up my bags and leave.
>>
>>1145339
Its weird because most of their reviews are good and they even told me that their place was a resort compared to the shacks most wwoofers deal with but i think its bullshit.
>>
>>1145343
Honestly just getting a couple passive aggressive comments would have been enough for me to move on. You're travelling to enjoy life, not to get talked down to by some cranky housewife.

Does anyone here have experience traveling as a convicted felon? Specifically with drug possession as the crime? My friend really wants to travel with me but we can't find answers anywhere, even from an attorney.

Is one barred from entering certain countries? I know USA and Canada is near impossible, also I've heard the same for Australia and NZ. Any personal anecdotes however?

You're better off going by yourself friend. Degenerates aren't welcomed in most developed countries.
>>
>>1145342
Didn't answer my question
>>
>>1145323
Well, you should know your home citizenship matters if you want to ask questions in a forum.

And, yea, most countries don't want poor people with no obvious means to vacation or travel (no available funds or credit cards/no outbound ticket/lack of reservations and plans). And yes, they also don't want people who have shown a criminal tendency, especially that country might have tougher laws, or your home country won't extradite you back or other complications.

I would expect any country that shares TSA pre clearance would notice you if you tried to come to the USA with your drug history. but might probably deny boarding, so at least you wouldn't be stranded once you left your home.

I'm flying to Hamburg, and I'll be heading off from the airport pretty soon so I won't have time to wander around

Does the airport there have a store that sells prepaid internet acces sim cards? Or should I just buy one for my phone plan?
6 posts and 0 images submitted.
>>
>>1145219
there should definetly be a shop that sells them, mostly theyre somewhere near the cashier.

There was some talk about them being tied to a ID recently but i think it will be a while until it becomes law.
>>
>>1145222
A bit worried I won't be able to get it on time, googling it I can't really find anything about stores in the airport with it
>>
>>1145249
a handy store
https://www.hamburg-airport.de/de/mycell_store.php

alternatively, maybe (very maybe) EDEKA
https://www.hamburg-airport.de/de/edeka.php

or a press/tabac shop might have them

Miami has a famous historical Art Deco district that is pretty impressive and extensive. I'm not crazy about Miami, but it's got some nice architecture.

There's a small chunk of the Ocean Beach neighborhood of my home city (San Francisco) with a lovely cluster of deco/modernist homes (pic not great but related).

Condesa, Mexico City was largely developed in the 20s--many deco buildings. I saw some cool buildings in the Centro Historico that seemed to combine deco with indigenous motifs, too. There's probably a real name for it, but I called it as Aztec Deco. And if you've never been, Mexico City is likely much better than you think it is.

There's a lot of deco among the socialist realism of the more grandiose Soviet architecture in Moscow.

Going to visit the Caucasus this Fall. How is it like? Is it arreligious, Muslim, or Christian? How are the men like (and what kind of girls do they like?)

I'm thinking of Armenia-Azerbaijan. Iran really interests me too even though it's -technically- not the Caucasus,

It's all three, and more. You're talking about at least a dozen de-facto countries.

Did you fuck up so bad at home? Or do you really feel attracted to some other country because of valid reasons? If the latter is true go for it, if not try to pull your shit together. What's your problem?

I think that's how a lot of us here in /trv/ feel. We all of course like to see different cultures and do different things and try different foods and experience different customs etc etc. But there is an inherent escapism in travel. I can't speak for everyone but I think many people here (including myself) have the same instinct as you.

How effective is this for learning a new language? Has anyone used this successfully before?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It's good for picking up some basic vocabulary and getting a really rough idea of syntax. Fine for reading warning signs and being able to create simple statements and questions about everyday things.

It's not going to teach you a new language and neither is any software in the world.
>>
>>1144951
I completed the French tree and I became good at reading and writing but my speaking and listening were not very good...which makes sense, because it only gives you a sentence at a time and you never had to speak if you don't have a microphone.
>>
>>1144968
This sums it up. You've got to use it in conjunction with other methods. Along with the French Duolingo, I used Michel Thomas and News in Slow French to learn vocab, plus Assimil for listening comprehension and Quizlet to learn more vocab.
There's no single, perfect program to learn a language.

Hey /trv/. Planning on visiting Kuala Lumpur and then going for a couple more days to Langkawi, any must places to visit that you would recommend? Any other tips or recommendations? Will be staying in Kuala Lumpur for approx. 3 days.

I thought KL was pretty mediocre, great if you like malls, overpriced booze and indian people. Good food for pretty cheap though.
>>
>>1144941
The Heli Lounge Bar is decent in KL. You have to pay 30 ringgit to go up there (one drink is included), but it gives some nice views and can be a pretty chill spot to go to with a few friends.

Hey! I'm going to travel to Kuala Lumpur too, are you from IEEE?

Have you successfully learned Japanese? I've been studying on and off for years. Each time I try I conclude I don't know if I'm saying the words correctly and can't find groups near me to practice with. I also don't seem to use it at all unless I'm online.

What methods have you found to be best for learning Japanese? What worked for you? I'll be going there in a few months so I really want this to work this time.

I've been using the Memrise app. It has lots of different courses for each language so you can learn specific areas if you want to. The words and phrases you learn are spoken to you when you learn them by native speakers so you can improve your pronunciation. Hope this helps.
>>
OP I never studied Japanese but I've studied other languages and I can tell you that the "on and off" approach very rarely works.

And try Anki. Language students I know love Anki, and asians use it all the time to learn english so it must work the other way around.
