Hey /trv/, my buddy is getting married in October in Nassau. I don't have that many details other than the dates and that they're getting married somewhere at the British Colonial Hilton. I went to Nassau about 4 or so years ago when I stayed at the Atlantis (6/10 was meh but not worth the money by a long shot) I don't remember too much besides the Pirate museum, Señor Frogs, Cable Beach, the Bacardi Museum and how hectic the jitneys are. Basically what I'm getting at is
>Should I stay at the British Colonial Hilton or somewhere else (cost doesn't matter too much, what I mostly care about is closeness to downtown and the bars)
>Best bars to hit to meet girls
>Best attractions to go to
>Places to stay away from and or common scams locals pull on tourists

Pic related, my best memory of my trip last time was going there when I was 19, drunk as fuck and sucking on some rando British girls tits and getting head from her behind the liquor store down the road from where I met her at Senor Frogs

Dunno, I'm not into a lot of the things you seem to be into, and it has been several years since I sailed around the Bahamas, spending little time in Nassau. But the row of fish-shacks out towards the now-defunct Coral World underwater observatory were a good place to eat local seafood where locals eat it. Without the observatory, tourists have (or had) no reason to walk out there.

I have no idea of the Precision Drill Flamingos are still in business, but they are worth seeing just for the story (JUST for the story, and be drunk when you go.)
>>

I remember hearing about the Coral preserve from a bartender somewhere down there. A sunglasses salesman in the market (dropped and shattered my regular pair) told me about a really good seafood restaurant near there and another one off JFK (one of their main roads there)

This is no sad after-travel-depression Thread.
Do you have a country, except the one you live in, that feels like home to you ?
What place is it and why ?

Bangkok, Thailand.

I lived there for two years teaching English and had great friends there. I felt more comfortable there than I do here. I feel sad just thinking about it. Unfortunately I didnt like teaching enough to make a career out of it and its hard to make enough money there to justify living there long term.

Airplanes feel like home for me.
I'm always crushed when they land or take off because it means the journey is over. I wish that I could have become a pilot but a medical condition prevented that from ever happening so I just travel as a bandaid to keep me sane for another 40 or 50 years.

Hey /trv/. I'm 26, white, live in North America, have a 4 year university degree, and I'm looking to get into teaching English abroad, but after doing research on TEFL certificates I feel like I'm no closer to my goal than I was a week ago. A 'good' certificate has at least 6 hours of in-class practicum teaching actual ESL students, with 14 more hours of in-class learning. Thing is, in my area (South Florida) there's no such thing to be found. The best I can find is a CELTA knockoff in St. Petersburg with dubious accreditation and no teaching of actual students, just roleplay with others in the program. Would it be better than nothing or just a waste of money to grab a 120 hour certificate from a website like mytefl or i-to-i? Mytefl is recommended by a few travel bloggers, but that doesn't really mean shit.

TLDR - does it really matter if I get a certificate from some McTEFL provider instead of a prestigious name like CELTA/Trinity if I want to teach in Asia or Central/Eastern Europe?

It's hard to believe there would be a better ESOL course that whatever MDC is offering. Call their interamerican(little havana) campus and pose the question to the Education people who do the 1yr transitional program that takes any BA/BS degree and turns you certified, because I know they do the in-class practicum there.

Miami-Dade is hella far from where I live, anon. I'm in Pasco-Hernando, about an hour north of Tampa/Hillsborough County. I live in small-town hell and I drive 45-60 minutes to do anything. Miami is about 5, maybe 6 hours by car from where I live. Solid suggestion though, and thank you for it.
>>
I have done a CELTA and the i-to-i online thing. The i-to-i online thing was shit so I did a CELTA. The CELTA was good.

You will be fine in those cities. They are big cities/don't care about non-whites, and they're far away from the war zone.
However, there will be a large language barrier if you don't speak Russian/Ukrainian.

Take the high-speed train between Lviv and Kyiv. I don't think it exists between Kyiv and Odesa.

I took a 16 hour sleeper train in Ukraine and it was quite the experience. Overall it wasn't too bad, but you should be careful and keep to yourself.
It looked as though there were some bad people (criminals or people with bad pasts) on the train, but they did not stay near us for very long and I was with my Russian speaking gf so we were fine.
>>
They are pretty racist there. You might be stopped extra long at the border and people will generally avoid helping you, but no one will be violent. I wouldn't expect anything less from a slav country.

You have $10,000, your only conditions are you must spend at least a week on every continent, and you must spend at least three continuous months away from your home continent. What do you do?

That's thrice my usual budget anyway. Tent whenever possible, cheapest hostel when not. No restaurants, only groceries and street food. Hitchhike a lot too. Pick the cheapest countries for the every continent requirement, both in terms of living costs and available airfare.
>>
from Sydney fly to Chile and make my way north until Colombia, do whatever is cheapest to get to US, go north through Canada and then fly to China and then go overland through Central Asia to Europe and then down to Africa.
I mean with $10000 you could just catch flights across the various continents and stay the remainder in a cheap country, but that's not really the point is it?

Wrote 2 messages and got an OK 10 hours later from both. Make your profile less creepy.

Stayed in Iceland for 2 months, worked every day, had to get up at 6am every day because I had to milk the cows. After 3 days I knew all of the cow's personalities, my host said nobody ever understood the cows as fast as i did, some never noticed different personalities even after milking them for a month, made me feel pretty good.
Workaway is pretty cool, I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had the chance, but this years vacation is already planned.

I'm going backpacking for 8+ months. This will be the longest trip of my life. I've done many for between 4-10 weeks but I'm wondering what's something different I should look into taking for a trip this long.

I'm taking a 50L backpack and a daypack that will mostly be filled with my electronics. For those of you who have traveled a long time, what did you take that you wouldn't take for shorter trips. On the other hand what would you suggest not taking to save space/weight.
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Don't take a heavy jacket, just bring layers to save on space and weight, while also giving you a decent wardrobe to use as the weather/occasion changes. Wear a baselayer, a long sleeve shirt, a sweater and then throw on a hardshell rain jacket. All of those things combined won't take up as much space as say, a parka.

I'm sure you know that kinda stuff already but I figured I'd throw that in there.
>>
>>1151599
That's a good point, thanks. I'm mostly going to spend my time in warmer climates and the only jacket I'm taking is a Columbia rain jacket, you know the type... Still debating what sort of second layers I'm going to take, I like hoodies but maybe I should take something else as well.
>>
>>1151602
Thin hoodie and maybe a merino wool sweater or one of those zip-neck fleece type shirts. Combine those with a rain jacket and you will be pretty much set for any weather you get, unless you decide to go into a wintery area.

Sounds like a pretty good place to start m8, go to seat61.com, find the SEA map and make a plan.
Pro-tip: the jungle line through Malaysia is amazing but will require you crossing the border via Sungai Kolok which imo is not actually that dangerous

I'm going to music festival that's on Thursday and I'll be traveling tomorrow to UK. Thing is the camping site there opens on Thu and my options are either overpriced hotel rooms or wild camping near the festival site for the Wednesday night. Should I be afraid to spend night in the UK wildness?

Basically I'm just curious if there are any negatives to it.

it's probably illegal, police aren't too fond of random tents in the wilderness

a good bet is to ask a local farmer if you can pitch up in one of his fields for the night, bring him a few bottles of beer if your feeling nervous
>>
>>1151478
>>>/out/

I've slept in every ditch and hedgegrow south of the Humber, and the only reason I'd be hesitant to do it again would be if there were a big dirty festival nearby with drug addicts wandering through the fields and police and farmers searching for troublemakers.
Just hide your tent well or ask permission is what I'm saying.
I often have success by asking in a local pub where I might wild camp nearby.

Hey guys,

The other thread slipped off.

I'm in Prague Friday to Wednesday, myself and my friend. Staying in a fairly cheap Hotel rather than a hostel, but I'd rather mix with that type of young crowd rather than Brits on their Stag Parties. I like quiet pubs too, so any suggestions are very welcome.

We're staying very centrally, but it seems like a lot of the local/student places are in Žižkov?

Also, is the "ShowPark" safe or will Russian Mafiosi steal my passport and make me run after them with my trousers around my ankles?

I'm a local so I don't really know which places would be suitable... but I guess Mlýnská kavárna is a cool place to hang out (at Kampa "island") even for a foreigner

I only go to Lucerna and Futurum clubs, because the have 80's and 90's dance nights (friday and saturday, I think) and there is a mix of young czechs and foreigners

Hey anon, if you see a really tall tanned guy and his shorter brown haired friend in Futurum, say hi and I'll buy you a beer.

130€ from munich to paris and then on to tangier.
I ended up buying a last minute offer for tomorrow for 230 but I can pack a full size backpack as opposed to luggage only and the inbetween time is much shorter.

Wont let it ruin my vacation but it still sucks. I may have to go back via ferry and hitchhiking though, to keep face with people here...

If you like beer:

In Brugges, go to Fort Lapin Brewery. You might have to contact him to make a visit. It's a small family run place with amazing beer.

Also go to Bierbraserie Cambrinus in Brugges. It's a beer mecca. It's a little touristy, but not full of dumbasses.

In Brussels, check out La Porte Noire. It's a quiet little underground place specializing in local Belgian beer. Tourists dont go there.

the center is fine. Manny nice bars. Don't forget to visith "het gravenstaan" the castel. The cathedrals and churches also are worth the visith

Ever been?
Would you recommend?

They have some really cheap flight there but want to be sure that isn't for a reason other than it being a country in the mid-Atlantic.

Suggestions about what time of year to vist, what to do and what to see would be great.

Whilst it's an okay city, it's not really worth the flight just for Reykjavik. Iceland is truly about the outdoors so it'd be best to plan a week or more to explore the island's natural beauty.

Yeah I would go. No more that 3-4 days though, it is pretty small.
