Hey /trv/ here we are today in China, had the pleasure of going to the local school for a bit of a tour. Took some pics and will answer any questions you people may have.
The front gate was above. when entering the school you have the normal stuff. This is a big picture.
History of the school and and the school song in pictures and words.
Lobby, as you do.
Hey! I'm going to Iceland very soon, what are the best places to go to?
Probably not the bank if I were you.
>>1153374
Give us a vague idea what sort of things interest you.
>>1153664
Ice. I'm fascinated by it so I thought "hey, if there's a land of it..I might as well check that out!"
I actually did it.
I am an esl teacher in Korea!
Let the next 5+ years of slow traveling commence!
Pic of my classroom. I am here right now waiting for my first class of the say to start in 20 mins
>>1153371
location looks pretty comfy. are you teaching elementary students?
>>1153371
>5+ years
Hmm, talk to us in a year or two and tell us how you feel about the profession. A lot of people end up burning out. Not to say you will but don't think that you failed if after some time you feel you've had too much.
So how do I properly prepare for this? Do I have to pay for tickets years in advance?
>>1153366
Yes, tickets will go on sale in 2018.
What country are you from. Certain countries purchase their tickets through a third party. The one for Canada for example is CoSport https://www.cosport.com/
I've attended the Vancouver games here in my town and the London games 4 years ago. If you have questions about how to travel to the Olympics ask away and I'll give you my perspective.
I myself am also thinking about going to Japan in 4 years as I'm about 90% sure that I'll be in Asia at that time anyways. The biggest issue I'm facing is that I don't want to pay much for a place to stay there as Japan is expensive as fuck already and to add the cost of Olympic housing costs I don't feel it would be worth it. Would be great to find someone who would be able to host me for a week. I might look into volunteering for those games though if it will be possible as a foreigner.
>>1153378
Im from the states. Do you think the prices for food, hostels, transportation go up? Ive honestly never traveled to a foreign country and I want the olympics to be a good excuse to go for the first time. Ill probably graduate from uni around that time too so maybe I can study there for a bit?
>>1153384
>Do you think the prices for food, hostels, transportation go up?
Yes, yes, and yes (airfares). Prices in Japan automatically rise during any major holiday (Golden Week, Obon) so there's every reason to believe they'll increase substantially during the Olympics. Sorry!
Hey Guys!
I have to travel to portugal in september. 2 days in Porto and 2 in lisbon. Can you give me some information about your country? Is it safe, cheap? It's a business travel. Thank you!
Traveling to Lisbon for 3 days. Can someone tell me the best/cheapest way to get to Porto, would love to go for about 2 or 3 days.
Good thread.
I'm doing the Way of Saint James in October, and I am wondering if it is possible to exit Spain and enter Portugal via a land route as an American.
Op here. I'll fly from Hungary, and rent a car. What about the speed limits there? I like to drive fast...
Hi, I'm a British guy who can't decide between visiting Toronto or Montreal for my next vacation. Could you guys tell me the better city and why I should pick one over the other?
Most will say Montreal, I imagine. Better architecture, more history, older vibe. Livelier & cheaper nightlife.
But Toronto has better museums and an aquarium if that's your kind of thing.
>>1153357
Montreal by a mile/1.6 kilometers
personally I thought montreal was boring and shit
much preferred Toronto, but why can't you do both? there's a comfy train that goes straight from Toronto to Montreal
I wanna study in Taiwan specifically Taipei. I found out Taiwan has a whole bunch of different dialects. I don't know which dialect is the majority spoken. So which is it?
Also it would helpful if I knew some dedicated resources, all I can find is mostly Mandarin and Yue.
>>1153334
>I don't know which dialect is the majority spoken
>all I can find is mostly Mandarin and Yue
Guess you answered your own question.
Everyone speaks Mandarin
>>1153462
I don't speak Mandarin.
There, I run rings around you, logically.
I have been wanting to do a road trip across the US for a couple years now but don't want to go solo and don't have any irl friends that want to go. Is there a resource for finding people to travel with?
>>1153281
Rideshare comes to mind but that's not exactly the same
Where are you coming from?
>>1153311
I'm in Georgia trying to road trip out to the southwest like Arizona Nevada area.
>>1153281
When are you planning on going?
It looks like the Lonely Planet Travel Companion section is reasonably active. And seems people post both weeks and months in advance.
Can we have a Romania thread?
I am interested in traveling there next summer and I would like suggestions on a possible itinerary.
I'm mostly interested in historical places and nature/the outdoors (the latter of which I don't know much about).
Here is a list of the places I have in mind so far (in alphabetical order):
>Alba Iulia
>Bucharest
>Brașov
>Hunedoara/Corvin Castle
>Peles Castle
>Sighișoara
Please share your travel experiences, thoughts, questions, etc. if you have been to Romania or are also planning to visit in the future.
>>1153261
wew, I forgot to add Sibiu to the list
>Sibiu
>>1153261
>Sibiu
My dad hiked all the way from Caransebes to Sibiu through the Carpathian mountains this summer. He said the old city center looks okay but it's very small, and apart from that most of the city is a poor run-down gray shithole that you can find pretty much anywhere else in Romania.
>>1153283
Interesting, I have read mostly good stuff about Sibiu. When was he there?
got 11 days break coming up in November (thanksgiving + a week).
Which route would you do?
The first one, the other two are too ambitious for only 11 days
>>1153232
why are they ambitious?
here's the 3rd one:
24 - thursday - barcelona
25 - friday - andorra
26 - saturday - montpellier
27 - sunday - nice/monaco
28 - monday - vernazzo
29 - tuesday - venice
30 - wednesday - venice
1 - thursday - san marino
2 - friday - rome
3 - saturday - rome/vatican
4 - sunday - home
>>1153235
shit, thats the draft
subtract venice and add a day in pisa and another buffer day
Hello /trv/.
Got any tips about the orlando parks?(disney/universal/etc)
Thinking on going there for the summer holidays(winter time USA)
>>1153200
Bump
Universal can be mostly covered in one day if it isn't busy.
Disney can take a whole lot longer and has a ton of hidden gems. It can be brutally crowded so go during a slow time if possible.
I don't think many people here can help too terribly much with this question.
>>1153200
I've done EPCOT only, that said, you could spend two good days just there if you took your time. I imagine most of the Disney parks are like that.
I went as a single adult male, and still had a great time, so if you're planning on going alone, it can be done. It was especially nice not having to drag people from ride to ride if you want to go hardcore and ride all the good ones early.
Tip: if you want to do rides, research them beforehand, read reviews and decide what you *really* want to ride. You can avoid many of the long lines if you go early in the morning, I'd suggest this for things you deem a priority.
There's a ton of good info out there.
Salutes as the tittle says i would like to talk with someone from poland i do have a few questions and a little request nothing big if anyone could help me it would be really nice thanks!
I might or might not be, depending on what you want. You're being awfully vague.
Poland is poor, ugly and dangerous. Don't go there
Which countries in Asia have cheap alcohol? In particular looking at SEA and East Asia.
I'm doing research on where I'd like to live and teach English for a while and I enjoy drinking but have spent most of my life living in places where it's expensive so I haven't been able to drink as much as I'd like.
I like drinking beer and rum predominantly and am not looking for Bangladeshi moonshine that will make me go blind.
South Korea has the perfect balance of being inexpensive and actually having standardized quality control.
In SEA only Cambodia has cheap beer, everywhere else it's much more expensive than in Europe.
Thailand and Laos have relatively cheap liquors.
>>1153001
Central asia, that's the -stan countries for you, beer in tajikstan and kyrgyzstan is good and cheap especially, in the right places a pint can cost you 55 kygryz somms which is less than a dollar
How do you deal with travel envy?
>26, M
>leaflet
>never left NA
>sick and tired to USA
>finally finished school, got decent paying job
>germany for two weeks in October coming up and vietnam for christmas
Feels like I've been missing out on life every time I go on facebook
>>1152901
I don't have it, when I go on FB and see other peopel traveling it just gives me ideas for things to do. My wife on the other hand is horrible with this. Like we just got back from the Western Carribean, around Memorial day, right before the heat gets oppressive there. In June she sees other people on vacations and cruises and gets jealous and says she needs a vacation, ignoring the fact that she just got back from one and under better conditions than they are. That's just an example, but generall as soon as we get back from one place she acts like it never happened and gets jealous of other people she sees traveling on FB. Also despite the fact she is probably the most well traveled of her "real" family and friends. Most don't even have passports, which is a struggle when she is looking for friends to travel with her, if I can't go or want to diverge, as she does not like traveling alone.
>>1152901
I don't really have it. Good for them when they go somewhere. I rarely post stuff from my repeated trips to Japan or Singapore on fb since I don't really post much on it anyway. I love traveling alone and taking in the sights and never found myself jealous of people traveling.
>>1152902
Jesus, did you marry a 5 year old?
We've booked the tickets for our honeymoon, from Home-Prague then Rome-Home, we're just having a bit of trouble with some of it. Seeking your wisdom oh humble /trv/
If you think a city is worth skipping for another, neighborhoods to explore/avoid, or you have a favorite spot/restaurant we'd love to hear.
She is into abandoned buildings and animals, I love architecture, history, and great food. We both love museums and random adventures.
I'm also scattering my brothers ashes, preferably in Innsbruck in the Alps, but if anyone has a really beautiful/quiet place, I'd love to hear about it.
Proposed itinerary (In all caps are a must)
PRAGUE 2 days/3 nights
I think 3 days, she wants 2, who is right? (its me)
BERLIN 3 days/4 nights
Renting bikes a good idea?
Nuremberg 3 days/4 nights
Main issue! We're becoming less interested in this city the more I read. But there aren't many cities on the way down to Austria/Italy. Looking for anywhere in that purple circle. Thoughts on Munich/Salzburg?
Innsbruck 2 days/ 3 nights
The Alps is a must, and skiing. But open to other Alp cities if you got em
Florence 3 days/ nights
SORRENTO/POMPEII 4 days/ 5 nights
Fucking excited.
Things to do in Sorrento?
ROME 3 days/ 4 nights
Only WW2 beats my love of Roman history, I've heard Ostia Antica is awesome.
Budget is fine as long we're not taking shots of caviar
Thanks everybody
oh yeah

>BERLIN 3 days/4 nights
Renting bikes a good idea?
If you enjoy cycling sure. Berlin is a fairly bike-friendly city and there's a lot of a green areas in Berlin. Generally good to explore by bike. Consider cycling around Lake Wannsee maybe. Might as well see Potsdam this way which is worth spending a day in in its own right. If you or the gf enjoys botanical garden try Gärten der Welt in Marzahn.
On you're way from Prague to Berlin you could slot in the former concentration camp of Terezín. It's located halfway between Prague and Dresden. Pretty much a no-brainer imo if you're into WWII stuff. Dresden is worth visitng as well. Was bombed to the ground in WWII too but has since been rebuilt and looks great again. If you do choose to spend some time there make sure to check out the Hygienemuseum. I absolutely hate museums in general (I'm a huge pleb) but the Hygienemuseum was the only one I ever genuinely enjoyed so take my word for it.
>Nuremberg 3 days/4 nights
>Main issue!
Yeah Nürnberg is hardly anything special. Munich is arguably a better choice with more stuff to do and see. Salzburg is considered to be one of Austria's most picturesque cities but I haven't been there myself. Fairly small compared to both Munich and Nuremberg.
The town of Weimar lies pretty much on your route and is worth a day's visit. Sports some of Germany's most important cultural heritage. Small town, very comfy.
