You will need two things:
>Buy VPS (https://www.digitalocean.com/)
>Obtain Shadowsocks - its free open-source software made by chinese hackers to bypass Golden Shield Project aka Great Firewall of China (https://github.com/shadowsocks/shadowsocks/wiki)

Steps:
1. Buy a server (vps) on digitalocean, they call it "Droplet". Costs $5 a month, has 1TB/month transfer limit - this should be enough to all your funny youtube cat videos.
2. Choose Debian or Ubuntu distro to be installed on your server.
3. login, password and IP connection information should be sent to your email address after you purchase.
4. Obtain Windows client to login to your server - putty.exe (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html)
5. Login to your server with putty
6. Write those commands to install shadowsocks server
>apt-get install python-pip
this dowdnloads python package manager
>pip install shadowsocks
this installs shadowsocks on your server
>sudo ssserver -p 443 -k your_password -m aes-256-cfb --user nobody -d start
this starts shadowsocks server on port 443 with login password "your_password"
If something not clear, see tutorial: https://github.com/shadowsocks/shadowsocks-windows
You are done on the server side, you can close your putty connection, you wont need it at this point.

Now on your PC:
1. Download shadowsocks.exe windows client: https://github.com/shadowsocks/shadowsocks/wiki/Ports-and-Clients#windows
2. Double click it, on the task bar there should show up shadowsocks icon.
3. Right click that shadowsocks icon, select Servers>Edit Servers...
4. Fill the fields Server addr, Server port, Password, Encryption.
4. Click Ok.
5. Right-click again on shadowsocks taskbar icon and select "Enable System Proxy"
Congratulations, now all your internet traffic is being redirected by vps server somewhere in Indonesia and Chinese firewall cannot detect that it is youtube, facebook, gmaill data.
Good luck!

probably tor if it works there

That will be significantly slower than a VPN.

I'm tired of this 9 - 5 bullshit and working for fat cunt bosses, and the depression that follows. I just want to live off of my savings for the rest of my life, living somewhere that is preferably cold and somewhat isolated / deserted. I'll build my own shack, and when needed, I'll go down to the city and purchase needed goods. If I run out of money, I'll live off the fauna and flora. I just don't give a fuck anymore and can't live another day in this shithole, living a life that I was not evolutionary primed for. I am meant to be a survivalist, not a first worlder.

So where do I go, where do I even start? My currency is in AUD, and I don't have much of it, so I need to move somewhere poor in wealth. Recommendations? I'm thinking Chile. India and the likes are not a fucking option.

Go to Ushuaia, build your own house then claim the land (you are kind of allowed to do this).
And then just work as a guide for Europeans.

if I get asked at customs where I'm going to stay, should I tell them I've got an AirBnB booked? Will they be cool with that, considering it's sort of a grey area as far as lodging goes? Would it be better to tell them it's a hotel or a friend I'm staying with, and hope they don't ask for any specifics?

They usualy just need an adress. Sometimes you can omit the typ of accomodation...
>>
>>1176246
I usually have a printed email of the reservation confirmation, just to have some kind of record I can show an idiot, look up an address, that kind of thing. It wouldn't do to not even understand what you'd tell a taxi, or what neighborhood its in, etc. The form questionsor the human asking you have reasons, so don't try to buck them too much with some kind evasive attitude and should be fine to book only 1 night and be openended like that. Often, I'll find where I want to stay after walking around the next day, and might move.
>>
>>1176250
If I have got an Airbnb booked for the duration of the stay already though, would it cause any trouble to show them the email confirmation and give them an address? I've heard that some places take issue with that since it messes with their tourism industry

I'm not interested in meeting new people, cool architecture or seeing ancient buildings - there are plenty of those things in London, where I live. I want a vaporwave holiday.

I know it sounds dumb and childish, but I really want to experience the whole aesthetic in a tangible way.

What do you think I could do?
I was thinking maybe renting an incredibly tiny apartment in Tokyo during the winter or something, i dont know.

What the hell is a vaporwave holiday? Just use drugs like a normal person instead of listenin to crappy artzie music songs, fucking weeb. What the hell do you think you're gonna see through the window of an apartment in Tokyo? Probably 4 drunk businessmen going to a massage parlor, and you have plenty of that in London.

I'm not sure what I want.

I want to sit on a balcony and see tons and tons of people going about their day, see lights flickering on and off all around me as people live their life, hear snatches of arguments carried by the wind and the laughter of others, and all the while sit up there wrapped in a blanket and drinking tea by myself while listening to music.

uhm. i know it sounds stupid. i would never tell anyone i want this in real life.

You can do this in London, you'll just end up seeing more Asian people in Tokyo.

I'm moving from Phoenix to Seattle next month and I'm driving up the west coast alone to get there. I'm looking for things worth stopping at along the way to make my trip more enjoyable. I'm going to be staying outside Los Angeles the first night, then near San Francisco the next. I'm thinking of maybe camping the third night in the Redwoods, and the last day making it all the way to Seattle where I'll be staying, if not adding another night in between. This is all subject to change as needed and based on suggestions.

I'm looking for good food joints, short hikes, places to photograph, and pretty much anything else that's short and cheap. I have never traveled alone, and I have never been further north than LA in that direction. I have also never really moved before, so this is all incredibly new.

Any other advice regarding travel, moving, Seattle, and anything related is welcome.

Big Sur is rad for photographs
And Santa Cruz is cool too

Wasn't sure I wanted to take that route due to time, but considering I have an entire day to kill for that stretch I definitely could. Inland seems barren anyways. Any specific spots along the route?
>>
>>1175996
the thing to remember about Seattle people is that they're a little closed off and not especially open to meeting new people. If you make friends it will probably be with other transplants, just don't get discourage/take it too seriously when the locals snub you.

If things go right, I will be travelling to Australia this upcoming summer (so winter in Australia). I'll be traveling alone as a 21 yr old American

Any recommendations on things I should go see/do? I'd like to maybe attend an AFL match if I can, but what else should I try to do?

Where to begin? Post some things you're into, what do you like, gender, what you want to see, how cashed up you are, and so forth..

But anyway in general, I imagine you'll fly into Sydney or Melbourne. Firstly, Sydney is a shithole. It's outgrown itself and is super expensive. The harbour area (circular quay, darling harbour, the star casino, Taronga zoo, opera house and harbour bridge) are all sweet and great to see. But seriously you can do everything nice in Sydney in a day or two and then gtfo of there.. the rest of it is full of Arabs, Asians, Indians and niggers. Leave west to the blue mountains or go north to Newcastle.

Melbourne is amazing. AFL is worth watching but don't buy into the hype, rugby league is the more macho sport and more communal to the rest of the country (and not just the Melbourne area). Travel the great ocean road from Melbourne. It's pretty spectacular.

Brisbane is ok too, worth a visit. It's close to the theme parks which are halfway to the Gold Coast.. which is nice but very touristy. Travel the coast between Brisbane and Sydney. That's where most of the action is.
There's some great spots along the way, Coffs Harbour, port Macquarie, Forster and Newcastle. (Among many others)
Newcastle is great, it's a city with a town kinda feel to it. More and better beaches than Sydney (cleaner and less crowded too) and tonnes of pubs and bars (but admittedly not a great nightlife compared to Sydney or Melbourne). There's also the world famous wine country just 45 minutes away in the pokolbin area. Stay out there a a while and soak up wine, women and food.
I live in Newcastle and love the place.

Perth and the other capitals are too far away unless you really want to get into the outback..?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm male and interested in sports for one (I've taken to watching AFL and cricket [don't think any will be going on while I'm there on account of it being winter] while staying up doing homework). As cheesy as it sounds I might try to go see Zyzz's grave in Sydney. Not really sure what else I'd like to do, this will be my first time going abroad

As for cash, probably after airfare I'd set a budget of $8000-$9000 USD? Would have to stay in hostels I'd think

Thanks for the tips, I've saved your post so I can look into planning things once I have more solid timing
>>
>>1174863
Yeah, this is all pretty true (except rugby which is a shit sport and nothing compared to AFL). Tick off the typical tourist shit in Sydney and then spend your time in Melbourne. Especially if you actually want to have fun - Casino Mike's lockout laws have killed any night life Sydney had, while Melbourne's got 24 hour techno parties on every weekend.

winter sucks though. I'd recommend travelling in summer if you can - the city comes alive

I've been thinking about taking a trip to at least a couple Nordic countries, and I'd just like some opinions.

Of the Nordic countries which do think is overall the best/most worth visiting. And which of the Nordic countries is

Which Nordic country....

has the most interesting stuff to see and do?

has the best nature?

has the best cuisine?

has the best nightlife?

has the best looking girls?

has the easiest/most open minded girls?

(By the way for last two questions, it's being asked by a 27 year old white, normie American).

Which Nordic country would be the best to visit for a vacation--if you could only visit one?

Thanks /trv/.

Swefag here

Which Nordic country....

has the most interesting stuff to see and do?
Depends on what u like, Copenhagen has alot of culture and stuff like that! Stockholm sucks imo just cool stuff to do there like the Vasa museum but there are so many immigrants in Stockholm so i dont recomend it. Malmö is a no-go, its like mini bagdad

has the best nature?
Norway has alot of fjords and stuff like that, Norrland in sweden has alot of forrestes and rivers if your like fishing and hiking! But if u want something epic go to Sognefjorden! I went there 3 years ago and if was fuckin awsome!

has the best cuisine?
Copenhagen, they have alot of michelin guide restaurants and a nice street market in nörrebro! Over all Copenhagen but if your like arab cuisine its malmö and its pretty cheap there too, Norways sucks, they mostly eat garbage and pay a fuckton for it! Fish is good tho

has the best nightlife?
Copenhagen, ködtbyen and christianshavn are awesome!

has the best looking girls?
Norway with out a doubt!

has the easiest/most open minded girls?
Denmark! Anything goes in Copenhagen

(By the way for last two questions, it's being asked by a 27 year old white, normie American).

Which Nordic country would be the best to visit for a vacation--if you could only visit one?

Depends your your budget, its pretty expensive everywhere since high tax and commie goverments. But Sweden is less expensive and you can get away cheap if your smart and can stay at hostels and buy food at Lidl or netto! Then u can get away with like 3-400 SEK (30-40 USD) a day! But i recomend Sweden, it has it all. You should look in to a Interrail card for 1 country its the best option since u can see the countryside and make detours! But if you want cheap travels. There are pretty cheap buses from Copenhagen to Oslo with stops in Malmö and Göteborg!
>>
>>1173983
>has the most interesting stuff to see and do?

Define interesting.

>has the best nature?

Depends on what kind of nature you enjoy.

Mountains? Norway
Lakes? Finland
Flat land? Denmark
A mix of the above? Sweden
Something unique? Iceland

>has the best cuisine?

Sweden.

>has the best nightlife?

Denmark.

>has the best looking girls?

All are good looking but differ slightly from each other.
Stereotypical Nordic look? Sweden
Stereotypical Nordic look but a bit rounder faces? Norway
Stereotypical Nordic look but with a continental twist? Denmark
Finngolian? Finland & Iceland.

>has the easiest/most open minded girls?

It all depends on your skills with women, like anywhere else. I don't think it differs between the countries though.

Do you like visiting theme parks? I feel that the typical trip to Orlando/Los Angeles might be too insipid for the kind of crowd at /trv/, but I'm interested if you think otherwise.

Did you have any good experiences at them? ADvice for amusement parks?
What are some of your favorite parks? The staples always seem to be Disney parks and Universal Studios.

Pic related, going to visit Six Flags Magic Mountain soon.

Not a big fan, but I like to go because I like to be a kid any chance I get. I'm going to Halloween haunt at Canada's wonderland tomorrow with a bunch of friends and I'm pretty excited. They turn the whole park into a haunted thing with scary mazes and all of that crap. Anyone ever been?

I don't really have pro tips since I don't go enough. I guess just go with a solid group of people so it never really feels like you're waiting. I've never been alone before to an amusement park and I sort of want to do it to see how that feels.

Anyone been on Birthright? Is it worth it considering it's free? Good to go with National, or people on Campus, or otherwise? How are the people on the trip?

I'm half Jewish so I can go easily, but I'm afraid I'll just be fed some propaganda shit the entire time. Also would like to fuck some other vacationers and locals while I'm there, not sure if they're super religious or picky about that though, or if there's a lot of free time

I'm half Jewish and am going on a birthright in December. From what I've read most people aren't very strictly Jewish on these trips and a lot of people drink and fuck around. You will definitely be fed propaganda shit the entire time, why the fuck do you think they have these trips? Overall it seems like a good time, I'm probably going to extend my birthright to a month.
>>
>>1169475
What do you mean extend it to a month?

Also is there just a lot of free time int he hotels or after events of the day? Like after 5pm or whatever, do they just let you loose?
>>
>>1169479
I've read certain people saying that at night they were free to do whatever and went to some clubs and whatnot. It's a common stereotype that the 18-22 group just go's on a birthright to get drunk and be away from their parents. As for extension, you can have your flight back changed to a later date for free if you tell them early or it could cost you $200 at most. There are several extension programs where you can stay for another week or two but it costs $200 a week. That's cheap as fuck so I figure I'm going to do it. During the extension you do a lot of hiking and some swimming. There's also some community service BS but oh well, I figure it will just be a part of the experience. Livnot is the extension program I applied to and will most likely get accepted.

What's your sketchiest travelling experience /trv/?

How does tipping/ bribing the front desk work for major hotel chains like Marriott, Hilton and Starwood?

Upgrades would be my primary reason to tip. So would just handing the guy or girl a $20 or $50 guarantee an upgrade? Looking for 3-4 night stays mainly, so it would be worth it.

do you know how hotels even work? what makes you think if you give an employee 50$ they can give you a better room? the management is going to see you were placed in a more expensive room, but only charged for a more basic one.

Join the hotel chain's rewards program to get upgrades. I have quite often found myself upgraded and I'm still pretty low down in the reward program levels.
>>
>>1177055

This was my thought as well. I'm not at the top of any loyalty program, but it's rarely even been acknowledged that I'm a loyalty member.

Could a front desk agent add numbers to my loyalty level, so that instead of it saying I've stayed 3 times it shows 10 times? I'd tip just for that - but I can't exactly ask...

I'm planning to go to Italy next year, Rome or Venice specifically, as I've been in Spain like 20-30 times and France 5-10 times but never once to Italy other than once when I was 11 and we were in France and drove across the border to some small city over the day and back.

How well do the italians speak English?
I know Spanish quite well, so I should be able to figure out what a lot of stuff written down says, but it doesn't really help when communicating.

In Spain the general population's English skills have improved significantly the last 10 years. I remember them being shit at English when I was like 14 back in the early 00's. How is the situation in Italy? Obviously I won't start a conversation in English, I'll learn "Do you speak English?" and "Is there anybody who works here who speaks English?" in Italian,
