Hi /trv/

I'm going to Paris soon and I'm trying to plan things.
All I can find is some shitty guides about climbing the Eiffel tower and related useless activities.

Does anyone know something interesting to do in Paris?
pre-thx

Probably. Would very much help if you were a little less cryptic about what are ur interests tho.
>>
>>1178321
have you ever been to Paris before ?
if it's your first time, those useless activities are worth it, just book online so you don't have to wait 3+ hours in line.
>>
>>1178321
How long are you staying? The 1st time I went to Paris I did a lot of tourist stuff and in hindsight I kind of regret the lines, the euros wasted on tickets, the busy days in tourist crowded areas... mostly because it took up like half the time I was there.
The second time a couple years later I decided to focus on visiting parks, catching concerts, meeting people and going out or also just strolling around and it was liberating, I had a lot more fun.
Of course I don't know if I would have regretted not going sightseeing, skipping on popular attractions and museums in the 1st place, I guess it depends on whether you enjoy that kind of thing. My advice on that regard is if you don't have much time don't do much sightseeing because it's pretty intense and not very rewarding.

Here's a list of places I really liked though, off the top of my head:
>Orsay museum
>Dali museum in Montmartre
>Fondation Cartier (look up the exhibits they were great when I went)
>Jardin du Luxembourg
>Quai Branly Museum
>Institut du Monde Arabe (view from the roof is pretty sweet and I think you can go up for free)

I guess this is important: if you don't speak French, don't expect much love from locals.

>>1178330
So much this, whatever you choose to do, look it up earlier and do all the reservations you can, especially for Eiffel Tower and Versailles palace and stuff like that.

I'm an Asian who is planning on a trip to Asia.

What can I do to avoid being mistaken for a local? Yes, it is a real problem; it has happened once many years ago when I went to Japan.

>Japanese people speaking to me in Japanese
>getting slightly annoyed with me when I respond in English
>baka gaijin telling me that my English is bredy gud for a Japanese
>asking me for directions to some fuckoff place I've never been to

One thing I was thinking of was wearing a tacky t-shirt of a blatantly foreign country (like a shirt with a flag of the country I currently live in). What else can I do to minimize confusion?

>>
>>1177915
In more traditional places your dress should make you stick out. Maybe wear a wide-brimmed unfashionable hat and comfortable footwear, that's usually something only tourists do. Other than that I guess learn the specific phrase to say "Sorry I'm actually from [foreign country] and I don't speak [local language]". Not much you can do beyond that.

Thoughts on China Eastern Airlines?

I'm looking at plane ticket prices right now, and these guys are the most affordable.

Share your own experiences with this airline, both good and bad.

>>
I went from Japan, to Beijing, to Vietnam with them and it was pretty shitty.

All the flights were delayed without telling us a thing, everyone that worked with them was super rude, and the food offered looked like war rations. If you're cool with all that, the price is worth it. You will almost always have a delay so prepare for that.
>>
>>1177658
It's an airline. I got on the plane and sat in an un comfortable seat for a few hours in order to et from one place to another. Only real difference between them any other airline was that they let me stay in the exit row even though I did not speak the language -- they gave everybody else in the row the full lecture, then one of them said to me "Just do not touch anything" and that was it.
>>
>>1177664
this is pretty much what I've heard about the cheap chinese airlines.

when booking a trip to japan i did the research on these airlines, but everything i read was overwhelmingly negative, so I booked with JAL instead.

I'm planning to go on a short trip (8 days) to Israel in jannuary, mainly because the flight is cheap. Is it possible/worth it to try hitchhiking from Eilat to Jerusalem? How's the generel security situation? What's cool to see? I'll be travelling with my gf, both of us are neither jewish nor arab.

>>
Hitchhiking is one of the main ways to move from A to B. You'll see orthodox people all along the highways trying to get a lift, it's totally safe.

And also, if you aren't jewish or muslim Israel is really safe. Just be a neutral foreigner and be careful with arabs and you'll be fine.

I've been told numerous times to move out of Switzerland and not in a rude way like 'gtfo and never come back' and more in a sense that I could do much more with my life elsewhere. Anybody got experience with prolonged time spans not home or leaving your home country in general. I'm thinking about saving more money and moving abroad for a year or two and seeing how that plays out.
Do you guys have experience with such things? Anything to read up on, besides visas etc.?

>>
>>1176517
Do it, op. I promise it'll work out somehow. I felt the same way and left Canada for 4 years. Lived in a different country every year and traveled in between. The Swiss passport is good and you're in a fortunate situation because the worst case scenario is that it doesn't not work - then you move back home to your extremely first world country and make some money to either stay or leave again.

If you're under 35 a good place to start is by looking at working holiday visas available for your country. You can work anywhere in the world, but if you do t have much experience you're probably stuck in hospitality in other first world countries (it's not such a bad life... You just might not what to do it forever).

Good luck.

Moscow is cool but, i personally like saint petersburg better, better hotels, better restaurants, cheaper and less tourists

and by less tourists i mean less than Moscow, there are still a good bit of them

Saint Petersburg is literally better than Moscow in every way, it's not even a question.
>>
it is a question. Saint petersburg is an artificial city, made to mirror european metropolis such as amsterdam and paris. It doesnt look so russian, whereas moscow is full of history, has tons of architecture from many russian styles and feels much more like youre in russia.

I would choose moscow anyday.

Hi, /trv/, I'm going to NYC for a week next Month and I was wondering some things.

I'm a 24 year old single male and booked an air bnb on Davidson Ave between West 184th st and West Fordam Road, is this a good neighborhood?

I would like to try different foods, any recommendations? I'd rather not go to any tourist trap places.

I want to experience the night life, where should I go for that? Preferable a happy medium between old man bars and super trendy places with long lines.

Any advice, and anything in particular you think I should check out? I have a good amount of spending money, but I don't want to blow money on overly expensive stuff.

south bronx... yikes

nothing's gonna happen, you'll just feel a little tense.

next time just stay in west chester, long island, or jersey with walking distance to the metronorth, nj transit, LIRR etc. you'll know to get on the last train at 1:30am, or stay out until the first one at 5:30am.

Hey /trv/,

I'm headed to Colombia for three months starting in May - spending most of the time just living in Medellin at the recommendation of a poster here (thanks) but I have some time to see some other sites too. I have Bogota and Cartagena on my list as the obvious ones - what are some other easy-to-reach places in Colombia that are worthwhile and how long would you recommend staying in each place?

hi guys! I'm going to Cairo next week, and I would really appreciate general comments or advices on the city. Like i.e nightlife, is it easy to find alcohol, are the girls accesible... i mean, of course I will do some touristic stuff, but that's the easy part. I would like to also explore the nightlife, is there's one there. Can you get weed? Is it safe to walk at night in the downtown? Any (non-touristic) story, advice or comment will be very, very appreciated. Thanks a lot!

As you can see, Egypt is now a shithole apparently.

Sup /trv/

So lets do this quick. I got kicked out of home cuz i like dick instead of jesus pussy.

Now, the actual travel thing:
I have few options here. I am from Colombia, living in Argentina. I want to move as far away from this fuckers as possible. Now economy here is SHIT and a ticket is around 25k (ARS = 1k USD) in any case i have 2 options and one of them divides in Several sub options:

A. I Go to the Netherlands to be the sex slave of a friend (we're both into BDSM)
I have 0 knowledge of dutch or Netherlands in any case. How high is the chance of getting a job? what is the type of visa to get there? what would be the best visa to get if i want to study and have a job and live long term there? (+5 years)
Any info about Netherlands would come handy.

B. GO to US! Cuz' i always wanted to go. Now this is more tricky. I can;t get a Student visa (YET) as i don't have a HS degree. (yet) Can't get a job visa as i don't have anyone to employ me and the best way to get the citizenship is getting through the army lines.

This one divides on different options. So lets assume i decide to go with this one and go to the army. What should i know? I guess you have to work there for a while before actually getting full citizenship. Also, any info about this is preciated

Not this option divides into a few other most of them land on BDS sex slave (i like it. Don't Judge me!)

B-a. I go to Arkansas where i have a friend. He won't help me economically or dive me housing but at least i will have someone nice and maybe he can help me get a job.
as i would have the citizenship i would be able to get a job and study and blah blah blah.
(He's close to beebe and i want to lean towards this one if i choose to go to US)

B-b. I have Several masters willing to take me as their hous slave. Which involves taking care of their house, cleaning, cooking, taking the dog out, doing country chores and of course, serving them sexually.
They are in montana, texas and so on...

Any thoughts?

What a life you're going live! Sounds like a blast.

Honestly sounds like you thought outnboth options pretty well. First thoughts, if you go to the Netherlands you'll be in the EU so you can travels around most of the continent to your hearts content whenever.

But personally I've always liked the US better as a place to live as prosper in terms of opportunity.

If Trump wins, go to the Netherlands.

If Hillary – the US.

Good luck!
>>
>>1178187
Sex slave. House slave?

How about when you become an actual slave and become sucked into the black market without any chance of escape.

All they have to do is drug you or get you addicted to a drug and keep you from being able to make phone calls or use the internet and there won't be any way you can get help.

Did I forget to mention AIDS?

Do exactly what you want to do. Understand, however, that the consequences for doing what you want involves horrible suffering and you may find that some predicaments can not be fixed later down the road.
>>
>>1178187
Good luck getting a visa for the Netherlands. Jobs a plenty though in the western region.

Everyone speaks English so learning Dutch isnt mandatory if you ever make it here.

Hey /trv/!
Next month I'm going to spend a week in Bucharest, Romania. I would like to know how safe is the city and will I be able to safely wander around shopping and doing some sightseeing alone as a female tourist? Are taxis reliable and how about public transport?
I am also looking to do some Christmas shopping there so I would appreciate tips on what to buy. I have heard that alcohol and pretty much all food items are really affordable. How about cosmetics and clothing?
<Also general Romania travel discussion and tips welcome!

Hi,

Romanian living abroad here.

The city is fairly safe although be wary of flashing jewellery and money out in public. I would say it's just as safe as any other big western city.
Honestly I would worry more about handling cash near the cash machines rather than any sort of sexual harassment, so being a female doesn't really matter.

However I would avoid taxis. Especially from the airport... take the 780/783 bus (about 8 lei) or the shuttle+train better (£8-12 lei). Taxi drivers have tried to scam me in the past as a Romanian speaker with an accent (although less than half the times I rode) so I would be especially careful as a non-local. They also drive like crazy and don't expect a seatbelt in the backseat.
If you really want to take the taxi from the airport don't pay more than 40 lei to the train station. Use the electronic stall to order a taxi from the arrivals terminal as those are used only by the approved taxis.

Buses are really crowded at times, your best bet is the tube which is the only way I get around whenever visiting there. Traffic on surface is another reason why the tube makes more sense...it's also cheap and reliable (if memory serves right it's roughly 6 lei for a day-pass, maybe someone can correct me).

Going out will cost significantly less than in the West however food in supermarkets is not that much cheaper.

I'm sorry I can't find many good things to say about Bucharest as I really dislike the city, but I don't want to put you off either.
A whole week in there seems a bit too much as I've managed to do it in 2 days.
I would just say that there are nicer place to see in the country, but I guess you already have your plans.

Happy to answer more questions!
>>
>>1177615
Same guy,

Expect the city to deal with the first snowfall in a really poor way, also expect yellow and orange codes for snow if you travel towards the end of the month.
>>
>>1177615
Thank you for your answer!
I will follow your advice and order a taxi from an electronic stall inside the arrivals terminal. Is there anything else I could do to minimize the risk of getting scammed or are these approved taxis reliable enough?
If I had the choice of visiting another Romanian city instead of Bucharest I surely would. However my husband has a business trip there and I'm just tagging along and trying to make the best of it. I'm planning to study some books and films about Romanian history before going there so that I can understand the country and city better and maybe recognize some places while in the city. Please tell me if you know any good books or films for that.
Our hotel is located next to the Parliament Palace which I understand is nowadays a popular tourist attraction (?). I'm planning to walk around as much as possible and use taxis only when absolutely needed. Can you recommend any other places nearby I could walk to from where I stay?
I will be back with more questions later! :)

Have any of you guys used wwoof/work away/helpx before? I plan to travel the united states, and want to take it nice and slow.
