Ok so to simplify shit, I have been maneuvered into going to japan. I need help figuring out which option will incur the least financial damage possible.

I have already had the ticket billed to me but the travel agency says I can get some of the money refunded if I cancel the flight which will still end up with me having a net loss of $500. The shitter is, if I decide to go there then my family will be paying for the ticket but theres a pretty damn good chance that enough shit flinging will occur which will cause me to venture on my own out of spite. While I personally do not speak japanese, my brother who will likely also pull the eject chord with me does so and knows the country well enough after living there for a few years. He unfortunately does not know the enigmatic way of the cheap penny pinching neet so he will likely opt for an expensive hotel.

I will be stuck there for 8 days and I'm wondering if there is some miraculous way to have shelter for less than $300 (the cheaper the better). I'm talking bare minimum here. I don't care if its a shitty capsule hotel like pic related or one of those internet cafes where I can sleep off my stay like a defeated bear skulks in his cave after losing to a one legged wolf.

Amusing myself doesn't matter, I don't care if I hybernate or wander the streets till its time to shell out for the nights stay. I realize I can spend more of my neetbux to make this endeavour more bearable but I'd wait it out and buy myself a nice GPU or even a new PC if its retard expensive when I get back than ease the 8 days that will be putting every effort into forgetting when its over anyway.

So yeah, my options are to either burn $500 and cut my losses, or try to live like a neet in japan, which is I suppose a worthwhile experience on its own as I count the hours till my return ticket becomes usable.

What the fuck? Why did you buy a ticket to Japan if you don't want to go there in the first place?
>>
>>1193273
I honestly have no idea what youre talking about. If your only concern ia cost why even get a hotel. You can just play homeless.
>>

Long story short I'm not and was never on good relations with my family. My mom talked me into visiting for christmas and fool that I was, thought that she wont be a huge bitch this time around. To my complete lack of surprise, she is as expected, still a huge bitch. It is now too late since I have already had the tickets charged to my credit card and the original plan was to go and stay in mom and dad's house for christmas/new years.

I currently have two options, be a good cuck and take all the shit she will send my way till I get out of the country and punch her in the face after she drops me off at the airport, or walk out when she sends said shit my way and hibernate when my ticket says I can leave.

What's your experience with Indian tourists, whether at home or abroad
8 posts and 1 images submitted.

Really fucking hard to understand usually, they have a mega thick accent. The ones i met backpacking tended to be very educated and from well off families. Very respectful and the few I chilled with in my travels in europe were chill.

On the other side they all seem to have this mentality of going to clubs drenched in cologne/axe spray wearing dress shirts with the collar popped up and shiny watches and thinking they are chick magnets. Its harmless but really funny to observe, its like a meme come true.

I never been to india but I can assure you the ones who backpack are likely nothing like the ones that are stuck there.
>>
Some Malaysian Indian families really made me lose my shit in Thailand.
They were throwing out their trash to the beach and the ocean, piles of it.
It was an otherwise clean beach, too.
They were arguing with each other, and I didn't want to get involved with that, so just picked the remains up as soon as they left, and threw it in the trashcan (it was close by anyway).
I didn't know before how upset I get if I see people littering.

Also Indian guys tend to be the creepiest. I don't even want to go into it, I'll just say I'm happy I know some self-defense moves.
>>
Lived in India for a couple years.

I rarely meet Indians traveling or backpacking abroad outside of Western Europe. The ones who are off on their own tend to be quite friendly and laid back. Met one guy in Turkey who was studying at UCLA and wanted to hitchhike with me, but our schedules diverged and we weren't able to see the plant through.

Aside from him, I'm having a hard time remembering any solo travelers I met from India outside of India itself.

Indians in India are a mixed bag. A lot of "travelers" who stay in backpacker hostels tend to be relatively privileged and sort of giant douchebags. They smoke a lot, drink a lot, and come across as trying too hard to be "Western." Others are genuinely alright.

Really fucking hate whenever I have Indians staying in my dorm when I'm in India, though. Absolutely disrespectful lot nine times out of ten. Zero respect for anybody in the room and have no qualms about having loud conversations or take phone calls at any hour of the day.

Then again, I'm also really sick of hostels. Not a Real Traveler^TM, but I can't stand the "Babby's First Trip" crowd who can't shut the fuck up or turn on the lights every night at 3am.

Them being pushy idiots obviously. You are gifting your valuable time and effort by doing volunteer work. Basically some mid-level management is not meeting his quota or whatever and his solution is to attempt to force everyone to work even harder to cover his own ass.

You should respond with a strongly worded passive aggressive email saying they need to start treating you with dignity and respect or find someone else to do the work *for free*. YOU are the volunteer, the person writing the email is likely paid. Its not your problem, its theirs - and clearly they are too stupid to realize attempting to make it your problem they fucked up at some point is counterproductive. You are there to do whatever job you agreed to, thats it - not to start raising funds or some extra shit on the side because they failed to live up to their own obligations.

Seriously tell them to chill in polite words and if they dont then tell them to fuck off.

I'm going to Brussels in one week, any suggestions what should I visit? As long I asked everobody is recommending me Grand Palace, but I'm also interested in visiting breweries but I don't know where should I look for it.

>>
Closest large brewery is that of Leuven (which is a twenty munte train ride away), the Stella Artois brewery. Brussels is a weird city in that it doesn't really have any insane landmarks except the Grand Place and the Atomium. The comic book mural route is pretty cool and you'll see most of the city by following it: http://www.brussels.be/artdet.cfm?id=5316&

Some museums are also pretty cool, I especially like the ones at the Jubelpark; here's a full list: http://www.brusselsmuseums.be/en/musee.php
>>
Brussels kinda sucked a lot desu. Definitely go on a pubcrawl or something, hit the brewery, walk around for *maybe* a day tops because there isnt shit to see.

Check out the war museum though that was pretty dope, they had a fuckload of cool shit in there.

Hopefully you are only there for a couple of days at most because it is not an exciting city at all, probably one of my least favorite that I saw in Europe over the course of 3 months.

Why do I get sick/unwell when I travel?
Not even from going abroad or eating foreign foods or something like that, twice now when I've traveled far to large cities within my home country I've gotten unwell upon or during arrival for unknown reasons.
I lose my appetite, get an upset stomach, get very tired and mopey, and sensitive to the air/smells in places like restaurants (or buildings in general) to a point of getting nauseated. I haven't gotten physically sick in years and I even got a sore throat this time. My "symptoms" almost disappear (except the sore throat) when I get to rest in the hotel room, but return in 10 minutes when I leave.
On the 8 hour car journey home I practically got better and better the closer I got to home.

Is this some sort of travel related anxiety? I'm not a traveled guy so I don't have much experience. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I just don't get it.

>>
Happened to me during my first week of a 3 month SEA trip.

Luckily my buddy had some beta blockers for his heart, and they are also prescribed as anti-anxiety meds. Took some only for a couple days, after that I felt back to normal.

Pretty sure it's something anxiety-related.
>>
>>1193208
Yeah that was my though. I don't want to be the guy who self-diagnoses himself on the internet, but similar things have made me think I could have something.
When I'm alone inside buildings with large crows like malls or a school I sometimes get dry and watery eyes. Which of course makes it look like you're crying, which makes you even more anxious and they water more and it's a vicious circle. I always though it was a draft in certain buildings until I connected the dots.
>>
I get this sometimes even just on really long drives. The only difference is mines manifests as diarrhea, real fun trying to sort out your flight having to shit every five minutes.

Your local drug store should have something for anti nausea specifically for traveling stress. At least they do for if it's coming out the other end.

Hi everyone, I plan on going to the Sultanate of Oman next year and I was wondering if any of you has a digital format of the "Oman Off Road" book ?

the most fun thing about Oman was the Wadi Shab. Oman, much like the rest of that part of the middle East, is full of hawkers, Arab men who swear by Islam but smoke more cigarettes than a chimney blows smoke and have the biggest pot bellies, and will try to hit on or touch your wife, and bleached white sand and buildings.

I had more fun in fucking Kuwait.

Hi fellow travelers.I i have saved up money, and have 6 months to do whatever i want to do. I have been practicing Russian language for the last 6 months and i want to live in a Russian speaking country to go to school for a couple of months and practice my Russian and also have a lot of fun while doing it. The plan is to travel around in the "Stans" (Central Asia) for a couple of months, after spending some months in Russia/Ukraine.

The two cities I have favoured is St.Petersburg and Kiev (Ukraine). But i am open to all suggestions... If anyone have any usefull tips or advice in this situasion it would be really appriciated! Thank you.

I am from Norway. I really just like Russia, and I am also learning Russian so i think the best way would be to live there for some months to develop my Russian language. Also i want to travel around in Russia

Hi guys.

I want to do babbys first solo trip. I'm fairly sure I want to go to Vietnam, but I'm also considering Japan. I have around $3000 to spend on the entire trip.

Now, I have an itinerary I put together for myself in Japan, and it looks doable, but desu after reading more into it, it doesn't seem like I'd be all that interested in going (mostly because I'm 19, and the drinking age is 20)

So I want to put together an Itinerary for Vietnam. I want to go for 14 days (Jun 10-24, arriving in Vietnam on the 11th)

Now, in order for me to get the cheapest plane tickets, I have to fly in, and out of Ho Chi Minh city (where I want to start). This will be about $1300-1400

I will have to sacrifice a day to travel, so I'll be spending 13 nights total in Vietnam. 6 of which I would like to spend in Ho Chi Minh, 5 in Hanoi, then back to Ho Chi Minh for 2 nights then catch my flight on the 24th at 8:30AM (If any of you have any better ideas on what I should do, feel free to guide me)

I plan on staying in a hostel most of the time, I want to meet some people and venture around town/hit up the bars with them. Maybe while I'm in Ho Chi Minh, stay in a hostel, and in Hanoi, stay in a hotel.

Now here are my questions:
>In regards to public transportation, what is the best way to get through the country?
>In regards to safety, how do I not get robbed/killed/sold into sex trafficking?
>In regards to my cell phone, is there a pocket wifi service available there?
>What are the big sights I want to see? Any hidden gems?
>How far can I get with English there?
>How cheap is food?

Any input is appreciated

Nobody ever tried to card me when I was in Japan. Granted I was 24 but I don't really look much older than when I was 19.
Hell, you can even buy alcohol from vending machines.

>This will be about $1300-1400
>cheapest plane tickets
Jesus Christ what
Go through all the search engines including ITA Matrix and try to be more flexible with your dates. This is some ridiculous overpaying.

If I go to Japan I want to visit the clubs and stuff desu, like I want to be in roppongi most nights and see some tech house shows. Maybe next year

Yeah this is what I found through kayak, I'll definitely look around but I'm not trying to get stuck in a 10 hour layover too
>>
>>1192594
Getting alcohol is not a problem. However clubs do card people. I don't know if they would let in someone under 20. But they do it for ID purposes mainly (need your passport).

I want to go to Ibiza, but I have a few questions

>Would it be worth it to go alone? None of my friends can afford it
>I'm considering a Hostel since I'm going alone, I'm usually fine with getting a hotel and keeping to myself on most vacations, but I feel I need to get a hostel to meet people to club with
>However, most hostels don't have bars (maybe they do in Ibiza? idk) and all the hotels there do. My friend told me you HAVE to pre game at the hotel bars because it's way too expensive inside the clubs
>I'd rather not go to the big clubs except for maybe one night, what are some of the more intimate clubs that play tech house/techno?
>I'm probably a 6/10, 7/10. Do you really need to be beautiful to have fun there?
>Also I'm American
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Considering your budget seems limited and you mainly want to party... I think an all-inclusive beach resort in Cancun would be cheaper for you.
Ibiza is expensive and as a 6-7/10 american, your value won't really go up over there. Lots of beautiful young people with plenty of money
>>
>>1192555
Eh, I have about 10 grand to blow on this trip and hotels aren't looking too expensive

I fucking hate all-inclusive beach resorts. Too many moms

Do you think clubbing in Germany would be a better idea? I'm pretty sure I could get into berghain
>>

Then why is alcohol prices in clubs an issue if you have 10k for this trip.. ?
How long do you plan on staying there ?

I'm planning on having roast duck at least twice, what dishes would you recommend?
>>
>>1192131
That would be a looong list.

I would just say, just keep your eyes open, and try to see where most people eat at lunchtime and dinner time, go with the flock.

I do not remember a single bad dish.
Not my style? Yes, that happened, like I didn't end up sitting in restaurants where I saw the eyes of the fish or chicken stare at me from the pot, but that's just me, I'm picky. But there was always another popular one right next to those that would sell something that looked entirely "safe" (read: no bones).

Another thing in general: please be open. Know that you always have a McDonalds nearby that you can fall back on, but do not enter McDonalds if you can avoid it. Get used to the idea that there will be rice everywhere.

There will be tons of different dumplings all over, that's a good one for breakfast, just find one that suits you. There's everything from red beans to elaborate dishes inside. (The soup ones!!)

Noodle soups... There are endless variations. I'm for the Guilin Rice noodles, which is not native to the East coast, but can be found there, too, and it's like... Think something between spaghetti and pho. So, so good.

Hot pot... the cold weather is perfect for hot pot. The rest can be eaten alone, for hot pot collect some people and go crazy.

What I thought was a nice Chinese custom is that they always have their tea bottles with them, which they can refill in any public area basically with hot water. So don't wait like me till the end of the trip, just go buy one at the start if you also like the idea.

Etc etc
