Hey ya'll, how about we have a travel blog thread? I've started one for a big trip I'm gonna take in March, and I don't know if it's shit or not. Any critiques would be neato.
Also post your own blog or ones you like, I'm (and I'm sure others are as well) always looking for some good travel info and inspiration.
https://anassholeineurope.travel.blog/
You write like a retarded teenager, seriously. Nobody will find that writing style funny.
>>1194017
That's fair, I like it though.
>>1194017
This, to be honest.
I could hardly make it through a single post. Although I do appreciate what you're trying to do, stylistically, your execution is plain sloppy.
Lots of swear words and teenage-tier jokes don't make you funny.
Your blog resembles a poorly-written Cracked.com article.
I'm seriously not trying to be mean. I've thought about making a blog myself but haven't figured out a unique enough angle to bother. Get some more opinions, revise, improve, and experiment. However, I don't think what you're doing now is a recipe for success in racking up views.
Good luck, but please make some changes. I don't follow any blogs regularly, but I'm sure nobody wants to read another "edgy" diary online.
Is solo travel to Jamaica a good idea? I'm mostly worried about the crime. I wouldn't bother going if I was just going to stay at an all inclusive place. I'm a tall white male so I'm sure I'd stick out. I though about doing Kingston, Blue Mountains, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay.
I want to go somewhere in the Carribbean or Central America and am trying to balance between not getting stabbed, and not going to some white bread resort.
>>1193933
I have a friend that lives near kingston i wanna visit but i dont wanna get kill ;_;
Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near the place unless it was to an all-inclusive, safe resort
Not the kind of place for a lone white bwoi to go wandering off "exploring". Robbery and/or assault/murder are a real possibility.
>>1194159
I know a qt girl there i met while traveling that said i could stay with her. wat do?
I'm going to be flying alone soon and i'm really nervous, how do you know where to go and what to do?
Do i just check in and go through security and chill until my plane is ready to leave?
Nigga just chill. Get there early and check your flight status. Check what your airline policy on baggage is. If you need to check baggage be sure to check that. If not, just print your boarding passes at home. Bring ID to go through security (also make sure you go through the right security line for the gate that your flight is going from). After you get through security grab a drink (if you're of age) and some food. Find your gate first.
>>1193900
>I'm going to be flying alone soon and i'm really nervous, how do you know where to go and what to do?
Read the damn signs. Like, shits labeled it's not like they will let you on the wrong plane
Which airport are you flying from? Google it and see if it's busy or not.
In any case, you should be there 2 hours prior to take off.
These may vary a bit for different airports but it's generally:
After you pass security you will be funneled into passport check.
After that you see which gate you are flying from.
Go to that gate and wait for boarding. Socialize with people if the opportunity arises.
And yes.
>>1193918
>read signs
>they won't let you if you're not supposed to be there
Also you can always ask staff.
what kind of hostels do you prefer? loud or quiet? what was the best hostel you've ever stayed at?
also, I'm in Italy for the next month, Venice, Vicenza, mantua, Florence/Siena, Naples, and Rome. anyone want to hang out?
Introvert here
Private rooms all the way. Spending just a single night with loudmouthed NT fuckers ruins my travel
I'm not a big fan of party hostels. I liked them when I was younger, but now that I've been traveling for a few years - albeit not continuously - I prioritize my privacy. If I can afford my own room, I go for that. Otherwise I'll choose whichever size dorm meshes with my budget.
"Loud" and "crazy" hostels are fun if you have a private room, are a teenager, or only planning to stay short-term. Constantly being woken up by entitled and oblivious Brits and Australians takes a toll. Even at quieter and more laid-back locations, the inability to get a good night's sleep in a dorm wears on you.
My favorite hostel was SoHo Hostel in Istanbul. It's actually not a very wonderful place - its pretty tiny and cramped, and they had to kick everyone out to spray for bedbugs in the middle of the Gezi Park protest. However, the ambiance there was awesome. The owner there was really cool, too, and I made some of my best travel friendships in that place (i.e., folks I'm still talking to and arranging meet-ups with four years later).
Best hostel in regards to facilities was Reykjavik City Hostel. Little overpriced and seemed too quiet and sterile, but they had like five fucking kitchens, a campground, two dining halls, a game room, a library, full wifi coverage, and a bunch of other shit. In regards to interior and decor, TrailWinds Hostel in Leon, Nicaragua, which wasn't much of a hostel but more of a budget boutique hotel with two dorm rooms. One of the owners was very friendly (the other was alright, but he pissed me of by being extremely grumpy whenever I'd come back late - you have 24-hour reception, m8, come on) and her and her partner did a really great job decorating the place.
Anyway, sorry. Hard to pick a "best" hostel. Different ones stick out for different reasons.
>>1193745
I was stationed in Vicenza for 3 years. Miss it everyday.
I'll be visiting Bucharest and Constanta, Romania in April and would like any information regarding the country.
Has anyone ever been there?
Which part did you get to visit?
What was your experience like?
How was the food? girls? nightlife?
>>1193546
I went to Brasov, pretty fucking chill, and bruh, EVERYTHING IS SO FUCKING CHEAP
women are normal, some hot ones, some ugly, nothing like Prague
food is pretty good, i mean i only ate luxury meals because a great steak with crabmeat and a potato side, with 3 beers was around 6 or 7 usd
local food is also pretty good, a lot of meat
I'd recommend going, pretty countryside and its funny to see how insanely cheap shit is
>>1193546
Don't stay in Bucharest. You'll be bored after 2 days. If I were you I'd plan daytrips to the countryside. Personally I loved Sighisoara and it's probably a 2-3h bus ride. Cluj Napoca is slightly further away but it seems to be worth the time.
>>1193566
How long ago did you go there?
looking forward to it all (including cheap prices)
What is it like?
Is it expensive? (how many hours a week do you spend on making money?)
How are the people?
Is it hard to find a job?
What do you like/dislike the most about it?
It's varies from place to place (the entire city has the total spectrum of human existence)
Some places - yes? Everywhere? No. The city is so spread out that you can easily find affordable places to live.
The people are either shallow, Mexican, homeless, or some sort of asian/nigger.
No. It's incredibly easy.
I dislike the traffic. I love the rawness (there is a facade, but it's so blatant that it doesn't really matter. Beaners are second class citizens. Beggers are pieces of shit. You can fuck a homeless girl holding a sign begging for money in the morning, and then end up at a Hollywood party fucking some asian cunt who goes to UCLA in the nighttime.
>>1193524
I've seen both Crash and Bojack Horseman, is there still any reason to go to LA?
>>1193518
>What is it like?
Very diverse, historic neighborhoods, fantastic weather. You need a car unless you live near a train station to see and do a lot of things
>Is it expensive? (how many hours a week do you spend on making money?)
Depends on where you live. Im originally from East LA(sketchy) and my parents rent a a 2 bedroom house for 800 but I live in mid wilshire( safer and cleaner) now and pay double for a 1 bedroom apartment. Just to give you an idea.
I work as a social worker for the city and do a little over 40 a week
>How are the people?
Depends. Lots of different cultures and communities. But for the most part everyone down to earth and laid back.
>Is it hard to find a job?
Yeah, especially if you dont have connections or want to work in the entertainment industry.
>What do you like/dislike the most about it?
The cultural diversity, and the fact I can go to the mountains, dessert and beach all in a day.
I fucking hate the traffic sometimes.
Any hikers right here?
What was your longest journey on foot? How it helped and/or harmed mentally?
Do you have any unexpected recommendation from experience for a very long journey?
Ofc it is obvious for everyone to have lightweight backpack as possible, to know where is good water resource is and etc. Anyway, I would be thankful for all info.
Story behind this:
I feeling sucked and fucked up by society and daily routine and I also probably have some kind of mental illness or just tiredness of everything. So have a plan to walk away as far as i can or just for a one year or two. Planning to take some clothes, bivy, sleeping bag, tilt, stove, water filter and some other basic things. Soon will have enough money for everyday food, visas, flights for skipping traveler-unwelcoming places like middle east.
Have experience by traveling in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Netherlands, Slovakia, Czech Republc by train, buses, hitchhiking and foot.
Also I do not need comfortable environment, know basic survival stuff and have been raised in county.
Should I consider that I am just hotheaded and nothing is going to work out?
The longest solo hike I've done was two months in Morocco, with breaks. Actually it put me in a really dark place mentally. The first month was fun, but then all my troubles back home started to haunt me and there was nonstop noise and chaos in my head. I couldn't sleep. I had to beg a friend to come from the UK to join me.
It's weird because I'm naturally a loner.
I can't give any practical info without knowing what climate you'll be in.
>>1193510
Thanks for info. Can you tell more about those troubles?
Planned countries:
summer-autumn - eastern, south-eastern europe (Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia)
Autumn-Winter - India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia
>>1193801
Man, that's gonna be so fucking awesome.
Hang on, are you actually going to walk from India to Indonesia? Good luck with the red tape in Myanmar.
The troubles which really haunted me were family-oriented, I won't go into details. Felt like I was wasting time instead of working hard to help the only two people who matter to me. I come from a culture that idealizes things like hard work, land ownership, and being a respected member of the community. Things all antithetical to travel.
Now that I'm at home I feel like I'm wasting my youth sitting on my ass, of course, but the grass is always greener, ain't it.
Sihanoukville vs Angeles city vs Pattaya
Which is best?
>>1192926
What are you looking for?
Personally I did not like Sihanoukville. It felt like a slimy city for backpackers to get drunk in and locals to take advantage of you.
>>1192926
IMO.
Best - Pattaya
Cheapest for Value (though Pattaya is greater value but more expensive) - Angeles City
Seediest - Sihanoukville
Matter of fact, fuck reasons:
Pattaya
Angeles City
Sihanoukville
That order
Should I travel solo right after a breakup? Have you guys done it and if so, how did it go?
I was planning on doing a 2-3 week trip starting in a week or so on a motorcycle to a relatively remote part of the world where I didn't have a good grasp of the language. It's a place where it would be difficult to meet other travelers and I'd spend a lot of time alone. It might be therapeutic but I'm afraid I should be spending the time with friends and family instead of on my own. I could always do this trip later as there's no plane ticket involved, just a borrowed motorcycle.
I'll get over the relationship eventually but I don't know how long it will take. Is it too early to venture somewhere lonely, but also adventurous?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit
> plan trip with girlfriend to UK
> she breaks up with me
> fuck her I'm not afraid to travel alone!
> go anyway
> hey not so bad, interesting history, funny accents, this is an awesome time
> at train station in Manchester
> see familiar girl
> It's her. With a Brit lad.
> miserable for the rest of the trip
> spend it alone
> come home alone
;_;
This is what happened to me, and why I didn't travel for another five years.
>>1192835
Sorry to hear that, it sounds like bad luck.
Do you think the trip would have been completely different if you didn't see her at the train station?
>>1192861
Maybe?
Before I saw her I spent a lot of time wandering around London thinking "Wow she would love to see this!" Or " oh boy I can't wait to tell her about this experience!" I'm feeling sad because I realized even if I did email her she wouldn't bother replying because she thinks so little of me.
When I saw her at the station I stared and even waved but she didn't acknowledge my presence, and dude was too busy admiring her bod and trying to show her around to notice me.
Felt horrible, and back home she did confirm that she saw me but in a dissmissive passive agressive way.
I think it did distract me some, just because it was a different location and totally different experience than I was used to....Made thinking about her just 70% of the time instead of 90% of the time. Till I met her I really wasn't interested in traveling at all the whole thing was mostly her idea and I just sort of went along with it because whatever. But yeah maybe it was good for me.
thinking about going to the uk/ireland in january.
which cities would you recommend?
thinking about dublin, glasgow, edinburg, maybe york ..
>>1192766
>giving such a vague OP more than a shitpost-answer
Anyway:
- Where do you arrive from?
- How much time do you have?
- Transport costs are high on the British Isles, how much do you want to spend?
- What are you interested in?
- What is your tolerance for B A N T E R?
>>1192793
>- Where do you arrive from?
Dublin
>- How much time do you have?
15 days
>- Transport costs are high on the British Isles, how much do you want to spend?
I'll check that when I finally decide the places and start looking for possible routes. do you think the difference could be a lot?
>- What are you interested in?
I'd like to visit 4 cities, Dublin for sure, then Glasgow or Edinburg in Scotland, and 2 in England, for like 4/3 days each.
I'm not crazy about going out, I mostly want to know some nice cities. I've been to London already, but it's not discarded though
>>1193155
dublin is nice, 4 days is a bit much, 3 should be plenty. Anything in particular you want to see?
Hello /trv/,
Student from Miami going to Barcelona for study abroad this spring from Jan - April. I know not a single soul in Spain and was wondering what I should expect. I've lurked around this board peeping all the Spain posts but my situation is a little unique so let me get into detail:
Going to Universitat Autonoma De Barcelona.
Campus location:
Consell de Cent, 367 08009 Barcelona, Spain
Housing:
should I choose on campus housing or choose to stay in the city? keep in mind I don't know anyone, so will I still be able to meet a fair amount of people staying in the city? I've asked around from intl students at my university that are from Spain, and they suggest I live in the city rather than on campus which is apparently outside the city.
"personally I’d rather live in the center of Barcelona (Raval, Born, Sant Antoni, Arc de Triomf)." <- If I were to choose off campus, which one of these locations are the best?
Also, would like to know whether or not living with a host family is a good idea
Racism: I'm Indian and was wondering whether or not racism is a problem in Barcelona. I have an American accent (born and raised) and I'm tan skinned, and have been hearing a lot recently that Spain is one of the most racist places in Europe. any credibility to this allegation? If so, what should I do to handle this?
Meeting People:
I'm going to obviously be social with students in my program and it will be fairly easier since the program I am going on is specifically study abroad and the students in this program take classes at satellite campuses and not the main campus. classes will be small and I'm sure there are events in the beginning to meet students.
However, what are the best places to go to meet other intl students and locals, and make a lot of friends, and meet people to go out with?
-Best places to go out?
-any events I should attend for sure?
-any other tips?
My main concern is housing since I haven't found a place to live yet.
Thanks!
>>1192762
OP, those are a lot of questions but i'll try to answer them. I also moved to Barcelona for my studies, and have been studying here for 5 years now. I'm going back this year for the Jan-April semester too
>Housing
Before I answer this please make absolutely sure of is that you will have all your classes in the address you provided (Consell de Cent). As far as I know the UAB faculties are located outside of Barcelona (1h and 20 mins by train or so), but the address you provided is actually very centric. Many people choose to live in the Bellaterra campus to not make a commute everyday, and beacause of the rent prices in Barcelona. Are they telling you that your classes will be in Consell de Cent, or that your HOUSING will be there?
>Racism
I'd actually say Spain is one of the most tolerant places in Europe regarding race issues. Even though we were hit hard by the crisis there's been no resurgence of racist "populist" movements like Front National in France or Liga Norte in Italy. Spain gets a lot of foreigners and tourists so we are generally understanding and respectful of other cultures. Barcelona in particular is a very cosmopolitan city with people from all over Asia, Latin America, Northern Africa, Europe and also India and Pakistan. I have never seen anyone get troubles for their skin colour and, although I'm sure it can happen, it's definetly not something you should expect or worry about at all.
>Meeting People
When I was an international student, it was incredibly easy to find new people. I don't think you'll have any trouble meeting people, specially if you are staying on campus. Locals may be another matter since the general english level even among young people is pretty bad. If you are interested in learning Spanish you could try to join free classes from your uni (also a great way to meet foreign students) or look for a tandem partner, who will teach you Spanish in exchange for your English. This is also a great way to make local pals.
>>1192762
>Best places to go out?
Apolo holds good parties all week long. Razzmatazz usually has good electronic music. If you're more into commercial music the clubs around La Barceloneta beach are your best bet, but the doormen can be cunts. Make sure you wear a shirt and dress shoes there. I like bar hopping around Grácia too, which is the hip neighbourhood and it's full of plazas and terraces.
>any events I should attend for sure?
Sant Jordi of course, the whole city turns into a bookstore with all the roses and book stalls. Most beautiful day of the year for strolling around Barcelona.
Sonar and Primavera are really good, but you'll be gone before festival season.
>any other tips?
Try as much of the food as you can, Spanish food is fucking delicious and going out to eat is not very expensive. The 50/30 card is the cheapest metro ticket if you're going to take 1-2 metros daily. The Raval is very beautiful at day but stay the fuck away from there at night, same about las Ramblas.
>My main concern is housing since I haven't found a place to live yet.
idealista, enalquiler, fotocasa are the websites we use for accomodation. Your uni should have a board with people looking for flatmates. Of course this will mean that you will arrive there with no accomodation and look for it while you stay in a hostel, so plan a week or so before classes to look for a flat. Otherwise you'll have to accept the uni residence (which may not be a bad idea, since it's kinda hard to find places for such a short let).
Ask me whatever else you want to know, and clarify me a little about the campus situation so I'll be able to give you a better answer regarding housing.
I piggy bank on this thread to ask about what area to move in Barcelona.
I'm a professional moving to BCN.
I like gritty neighbourhods, so I'm thinking Gracia, Gotic, El raval, Poble Nou? are those OK to live?
I live in California near Los Angeles and am spending Christmas alone.
What are the best themeparks to go to on or right after christmas, assuming I want to avoid lines?
>>1192564
come with me chelsea;)
>>1192577
Where's that, Senpaii?
>>1192564
Go hiking somewhere on Christmas day and feel like the Grinch as you look over the city full of light. For LA I recommend Mt. Wilson or Baldy if it's not too cold
Have you ever done a road trip in a country where they drive on the "wrong" side of the road? If so, what was it like?
>>1192449
Aye, drove in the UK. Took me like 10 minutes to adjust. Priorities and whatnot were not as confusing as I expected, but I did not drive inside many cities. The biggest pain in the arse was having to switch gears with the wrong hand, and the state of the roads in the northern parts of Scotland.
You'll be fine OP, if you're worried get a copilot that can smack you in case you get a brainfart and take a roundabout on the wrong side.
>>1192449
I drove from Bangtao to and around and Phuket city and out to Wat Chalong. I had two incidents, though one was caused my gf telling me to turn into the wrong way.
First one was at the mall. They had a paid parking lot, I pulled in to the right of the ticket window instead of the left. The attendant didn't flinch or acted like I did anything wrong. Just handed me my parking ticket. Fortunately, no one was coming out at the moment.
The second was pulling in to Wat Chalong. Gf told me the outbound rd was the entrance, but it was wide enough for 2 cars.
It was way more uncomfortable than I expected, but it also took less time to get used to than I expected.
Remember when you're first learning to drive, the lane you're in seems really really narrow?
When you start driving on the wrong side it's like that all over again.
So I figured it might be nice with a thread, where people could share their collective reccomendations for places to visit.
Or the best experience and place they've ever travelled to.
>got a bag full of money, and two months of free time. I just have no idea, or inspiration of where to go..
If you have any good experiences, I would gladly hear them!
>Best place for good food and relaxing
Vietnam

I don't know but probably Spain

Spain
My best travel experience was getting drunk alone and lighting fires in the Mauritanian desert, but I wouldn't recommend that to a wide audience. Second place was climbing to the tip of Gibraltar at 4am to watch the sun rise.
Where's that photo? Looks familiar.
