Pretty much anywhere that DOESN'T have a long line of tourists out front is great to eat.

Pretty much anywhere that DOES have a long line of tourists out front is terrible.

Hundreds of great restaurants in that city. The bad ones are kept in business by tourist guides.

Austin, TX
New Orleans, LA
Sydney, Australia
Auckland, New Zealand
Miami, FL
Los Angeles, Ca
>What was your favourite country and/or city?
Auckland was pretty cool, Austin was a nice 2nd
>What was your best experience?
Hiking some of the islands around Auckland
>What was your worst experience?
Texas was hot as balls

nothing
>Where are you hoping to visit in 2017?
Ireland, England (a 2nd time), another random European country

>Where did you go in 2016?
1. December 2015 - February 2016: India and Thailand (ten days in Thailand)
2. Late May 2016 - Early June 2016: Costa Rica and Nicaragua
3. Crossed into Canada a couple times for dates (I live near the border)
4. July 2016 - December 2016: India
>What was your favourite country and/or city?
I've been to India seven times and normally have a decent time there. I liked Leon, Nicaragua, a lot, and had some fun times in Manali and Rishikesh in India on my last trip. From winter, I absolutely loved Kolkata. Amazing city full of history and fantastic people.
>What was your best experience?
Motorcycle stuff is near the top. I learned how to ride in India, bought a bike in the United States, and went dirtbiking in Nicaragua. Rode a Royal Enfield around the Himalayas, went white-water rafting in the clean part of the Ganges, and met some great girls.
>What was your worst experience?
I was deadly ill when Narenda Modi announced that the Indian 500 and 1,000 Rs notes were being taken out of circulation. Without cash and with a card that was being rejected by most businesses, I spent nearly a week vomiting my guts out with no money. If I hadn't had local friends able to help, I don't know what I would have done.
>Where have you got booked for 2017?
Nowhere yet. I'm going with a friend to West Virginia in two weeks, hitchhiking to another city, and taking the bus back home. Also going to catch a ride with a semi-truck to Laredo, TX, and get some tacos in Nuevo Laredo in early January (used to work for a logistics company and still have some hook-ups with drivers).
>Where are you hoping to visit in 2017?
I have $300 in JetBlue credit (I had been planning to go to Mexico in March 2016 but canceled my ticket because I was low on funds), so I'll fly to Costa Rica, Mexico, Cuba, or some other destination in Central America or around the Caribbean. Hopefully I can go to India again and visit a friend in Tanzania.

>Where did you go in 2016?
Moved to the UK (just before Brexit, so I'm not getting thrown out! Whoo!). I went to lots of little places all over. The entire country is sort of a shithole, but I still like it. Ireland and Portugal were both great.
>What was your favourite country and/or city?
Porto, m8.
>What was your best experience?
Hiking alone in the Peak District in bad weather, with hardly anyone around.
>What was your worst experience?
I miss my doggo. ;_;
>Where have you got booked for 2017?
The Netherlands in February, the Czech Republic in March/April.
>Where are you hoping to visit in 2017?
See above. I'd like to go hiking in Scandinavia/Scotland too, sometime in late summer.

So, as an american am I allowed to go to Iran, and should I?

Is turkey a much better vacation for beaches, culture, women and food?

Iran seems to have their shit together, and they are always super nice.

This. But as far as I understand it can be reasonably affordable, and looking at what the country has to offer it certainly seems worth it. >Is turkey a much better vacation

Almost certainly
>Culture
Debatable, but I'd say no
>Food
I'd say they're evenly matched

My friend and I are going to Thailand. This is our itinerary:

Bangkok 4 nights
Ko Samui 4 nights
Ko Pha Ngan 2 nights
Krabi 1 night
Phi Phi 2 nights

Any suggestions on fun bars to go to? Where do other tourist looking to party hang out? Stuff to see while we are in those places? Anything you can share would be very much appreciated. Also, I’ll be in Bangkok for 3 nights before my friend gets there. Any advice on things to do while I am by myself? I’m looking to party at night, see some shit during the day, and looking for babes. No lady boy BS. Not looking to drugs. Just drink.

Entry Level Version:

Bangkok 101:
Khaosan Road is the backpacker drinking street. The bars get so packed that the party spills out onto the streets. 95% tourists, 5% people trying to sell you hats and bracelets. Super fun party scene.

Check out Cloud 47 at night for an underrated rooftop bar. It's a a newer place, amazing views and pretty reasonable prices. If you and your friends are willing to spend 5000 baht you can get a private cabana, on a slow night they may give to you for less.

As far as being by yourself, just stay at a hostel. Most of them turn A/C off during the day and people gather in social areas, it's easy to find someone, don't be scare and just introduce yourself. Warm White Hostel was by far my favorite, the owner works there 50% of the time and is the nicest guy. Really cares about his guests. In my experience, the smaller hostels are more social, not sure why.

Grand Palace: Overrated, skip it.

Don't buy a suit or fall for any of the tuk tuk scams, google it to read more.

Go to China town. Eat strange food. Take a boat down the gross river. Wander. It's an amazing city.

Girls: If you're not super beta, girls are easy. Just find some to go out drinking with, they tend to not care as much about hooking up since they know they will never seen you again anyway. I'm average looking and did very well. Start by social areas of hostel, don't be creep. Don't waste time with local girls, all hookers, after your money, or not actually girls.

Koh Phangan: Full moon party. Jungle Party the night before Full Moon is just as fun, get a tuk tuk to take you there, not a recommended walk.

Rent mopeds, some amazing views from the island, and plenty to drive to.

Phi Phi: One of my favorite place in Thailand. Climb to the peak and see the view. Take a boat tour of the surrounding islands (including monkey island). Visit the Raggae bar, fight for a free drink if you're feeling ballsy.

Seriously? You are telling someone who is traveling to the other side of the world to basically do exactly what they could normally do at home?

>1173948
Basically you should not listen to a single word this guy is trying to tell you OP.

Accommodation: Hostels fucking suck. Get a real fucking hotel, or better yet, just rent an apartment for the 30 days of your visa.

Girls: You don't fly to the other side of the world to fuck the same women you could fuck at home. Fuck yourself some Thai girls. The western women in Thailand are probably more likely to have STDs then the Thai whores anyway. As long as your getting Thai girls form bars and gogos, they actually get STD tested. As for the white girls visiting, they probably just got done fucking Tyrone or Muhammad after they were done with their daily feminism lecture.

Getting around: Don't get a fucking motorbike. Thailand is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to drive. Its even worse when on a motorbike. Chances are you have not had lots of experience riding one before, and are not used to driving on the other side of the road, and the driving habits of Thais, and even if you have all that, there are tons of drunk ass tourists running over people. Use a Taxi or Uber. Cheap as fuck.

Where to go: Don't get to Samui. Its just old retired people, and Russian refugees. Place is super expensive and ghetto. Save the time and money and get a bar girl to be your personal fuck toy, maid, and personal chef for a week instead.

The whole point of going to Thailand is to do stuff you could no do where you are from. For me this is cheap exotic quality accommodation, cheap exotic quality food, and cheap exotic quality whores.
>>

What up /trv/ im about to go on a cross country road trip. This will be my third trip over the course of a little more than 1 year. I've wanted to stop at the grand canyon each time I've made the trip but time has forced me to skip it each time. I'm planning, again, to stop at said grand canyon and I'm looking for a good area to get a nice view, maybe have a little exploring to do.

tl;dr looking for a good, non-touristy place to stop at the grand canyon, any advice?

North rim is less touristy than south rim, as I recall, but since the rim is higher up there the view is slightly less impressive (opposite wall being shorter.) Sill impressive as fuck, though.

I didn't see a thread in the catalog, so I thought I'd just make one.

How many of you have explored the iberian peninsula? How long did you stay?
What places did you see? Which ones do you recommend?
What's the best way to get around?

I'm currently planning a four-week trip (pic related), although right now I'm not sure which places exactly I want to visit and how long I'll stay in each one. There's just so much to be seen down there.

Last year I stayed 15 days
- 4 days at Barcelona
- 3 days at Valencia
- 3 days at Madrid
- 2 days at Toledo (couldn't find a place in Madrid back then, my original plan was going to make a day trip from Madrid to Toledo and Segovia)
- 3 days at Lisbon
Veredict:
>Barcelona
4 days are enough. If you go to Sagrada Familia (worth it), do the reserve in advance.
>Valencia
I think 2 days are a good lenght. One you know slowly the Old Town and in the other, you go the City of Arts.
>Madrid
Save one day to Prado. Other than that, I think more 3 days. And consider going to Segovia too.
>Toledo
It is a very historic city. Plus, it is very steep. For knowing it all without a risk of a heart attack, 2 - maybe 3 - days. By the way, I don't think there is direct connections between Cordoba and Toledo - there wasn't in Valencia, where I could go even to Sofia, but not to Toledo.
>Lisbon
4, maybe 5 if you want to know also Cascais

Yes. That's why you're going to community college: so you can get smart and subsidize your expensive travels and friendships.

>I look at her, she immediately turns away and says "i want someone who knows what they're doing"
>there's like 1 other guy in the room, my friend next to me who is also working, definitely not talking about him
>continue working, go to bed later

I don't even know what to make of any of this

>>1199608
yes, basically the same thing happened when i was a few weeks ago, including the crying part, but it was more because of i didn't know if the relationship i formed was real or just because we were both drunk. added the girl on facebook but she hasn't messaged me so i assume the latter. probably should've kissed her when i had the chance. fuck

i also have never really had (close) friends. anyway my advice is that crying is not really a bad thing, in fact i'd say it's good since it shows you do have emotional capacity. try making more 'friends' while traveling, at least talk to people for practice with social skills.

I'm not going to florence specifically, but a trip to italy

Is there a good prepaid phone plan/service there? Does the telefone italia or vodafone italy network have better coverage?

Hello, I want to go to America (I'm from England if that matters) and have always been interested in the Pacific Northwest.

Would Portland be a good place for me to visit? I've been to Vegas once but that doesn't really seem like "America" to me. It was pretty fun, but it exists for tourism and I would like to see a slightly more "natural" America.

What appeals to me about the Pacific NW is that it seems much slower. I think NYC would be too fast paced for a tourist wanting to relax. Plus I like beer so I heard it was good for that.

Anybody that lives there or has travelled there it would be great to hear your input. It doesn't *have* to be Portland, but it seems like a good central hub if I wanted to stay there but travel beyond it for nice scenery and hiking.

Thanks.

Portland is the first US city I ever visited

I liked it a lot, has a very local feel despite the features one would associate with a city

Excellent metro system

Local beers, there's a famous market

I think there's a zoo

You can easily get a train or Greyhound bus to Seattle, it's about 4 hours I think

Organ and Washington are such great states. The North West region of the USA is very nice due to not being close to any third world boarders. Both states have a lot of greenery making for great road trips. Seattle and Portland are both great spots providing awesome cities as well as outdoor activities. Rent a car and do a road trip in my opinion OP
