Anybody here have any experience finding jobs in other countries?

It looks like I'll be going to Berlin for a few years to study there, I have savings but of coarse I'd like to be able to hold onto them for as long as I can and having a job secured before I get there would be a great sigh of relief.

Also: bonus points for anyone who has experience getting jobs in the field of music and audio in other countries.

The first thing is work permits, which are not so easy to get. If you want to get a job in Berlin or anywhere in Europe, it's very difficult without a EU passport.

Well, then it's about applying for a job in Berlin and being hired.

I'm going on a lengthy tour of South Asia - India, Thailand, etc. - and I want to bring [A LARGE SUITCASE].

I can't exactly backpack with it, though. How do I visit remote areas while keeping my [LARGE SUITCASE] safe? Are there storage lockers I can rent in Indian cities, for example?

Even if I weren't bringing my [LARGE SUITCASE], I still have way too much stuff to lug with me on 3 day detours or outings into the counryside. Curious about how you handle this sort of thing, anons.

Lengthy means for months to a year, I understand that makes a "big fucking retarded" difference when you're looking for somewhere safe to put your luggage; something to do with time bombs or elephants IRRC. Elements of this post may have been redacted to avoid confusing certain people.

I'm not sure I grasp the size of the suitcase involved...
>>
>>1201092
Before embarking for a remote area, will you normally have lined up where you ill be staying upon your return to less remote areas? If so, it is possible they would allow you to leave a [LARGE SUITCASE] with them, or even allow you to have it shipped t them if you will exit the remote area to a point different from where you entered into it.
>>
>>1201092
Base yourself out of a city which you will return to. Store your luggage with the front desk for a fee, or keep the rental of your room ongoing while you are away. Make a friend of a single employee, someone important like a concierge at an important hotel, and pay them to take it home til your return.

Anyone travelling to watch the Great American Eclipse on August 21st?

I'm flying over to watch from Missouri and then travel around some fly over states like Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

I'm thinking of going to Oregon, but I don't want to go alone, and my friends don't seem to have the money.... /problems
I'm still going to try and convince them to save up in the next few months.
I saw a full solar eclipse back in 1999 from a mountain that was surrounded by lower ground, it was so freaking cool to see eclipse come and go from there. Also it got so cold for a minute. Want to see this one so bad...
>>
looks like ill be able to see about a .985 magnitude from my home. north of atlanta here. cool.
>>

Sounds fun OP. I just peeked at this website for some zoom in.
http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/maps.htm
Looks like Charleston would be my pick of watching it. It'd probably be a blast downtown what with the ability to walk around with your drinks and party a bit, and with some water views both. Some of the fun of historical and apocalypse events is experiencing the reactions of those around you. You still need eye protection to watch it. You taking a telescope or some homemade shades?

This one I'm not sure I'd travel to go see unless I had vacation that week. In general, it's a great month for travel deals and I used to often take trips the moment most kids are back to school a little later in Aug/early Sept and enjoy some great bargains (great for Europe if you don't mind risking some chance of encountering a rained out city). Eclipses are not that much more bizarre that the midnight sun vs short days at upper latitudes though, which I've done on the short days.

I do like to travel to "dark" places outside my city for Perseid shower peaks, which COINCIDENTALLY will be peaking in 2017 on the exact day when this solar eclipse is happening :o You might see shooting stars in the same day, is that possible? Have fun OP.

I'm stuck with a dilemma. I have the option of studying abroad, but I cant seem to make a choice. I've narrowed it down to 2 options:

-Liverpool (John Moores University)
-Alabama (Troy University)

I like liverpool because it's closer to me (I'm Belgian), cheaper, and has a bigger nightlife. It's also a pretty big city.
However, i also like Troy, Alabama. I've always wanted to experience American college life, it's also much more of a culture shock. It's a lot more expensive and the Troy is a small town (20k), so i'm not sure about the nightlife.

What do i do /trv/?

Any other students here who studied abroad?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The Alabama choice is worse for at least 5 different reasons:
- Troy is a no-name school and not worth a premium
- As a second/third tier public school the students will be unstudious and possibly retarded
- There is a chance of embedded racial segregation among the students with a lower ranked university being blacker and having a poorer backgrounds overall
- Nightlife at such a remote place will depend on culture and administrative permissiveness which can't easily be researched in advance
- Alabama is empirically shitty (as in demographic data) and the Deep South would be a foreign land for many Americans
- It will be time consuming/expensive to get to better/different cities and states
>>
>>1201054
Is there no other US option?
You'd certainly enjoy Alabama for immersion most notably if you get access to a car and can explore on your weekends all over the region, I wouldn't worry about racial nonsense. You're white, you're not racist, and you'd likely be very nice to those around you. It'll be charming actually to experience true hospital in "The South." Quick check on their wikipedia lists some good international programs. You certainly won't have many distractions in your education, since there's little to do in Alabama except the college experience itself, good BBQ and damn good food, bars/music/nightclub, and some quaint old historical stuff.

I get to spend a week in France after attending a conference, and I have around $600 saved for those 7 days. How can I make the best out of that time?

What do you think?

Serious though, he only home is a work and study visa, or a student visa. She will never get a general tourist visa because easyern eruropean women are too much at risk of over staying or other forms of evading leaving. Not that she would.

Its a hard situation, my girlfriend cant come visit me either, so i take trips to her, or we go to a third country.

Could he give her an official invitation? Is there any way to prove she won't overstay and just wants to marry a guy to come to the US?

She has a master's degree, and works.

I'll be in Sofia for 3 nights soon. Is there anything you would particularly recommend, sights, bars, restaurants or activities?

Not sure if this is the right places to be asking this. I'm 3/4 Dutch but born/raised in Australia, is it worth learning the Dutch language I have secondary family over there. Any Dutchies have any advice of whether i should bother learning the language, or eventually moving/living there? What are the women like? - Thanks.
29 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Well, dutch people really like it when people try to speak/learn our lanuage. But its really difficult to learn. The thing is why would you learn Dutch when almost all the people speak English (at least a bit). Living here is nice but nothing special. Maybe you can live with your family for a bit. The woman like all people here are pretty direct and sometimes a bit manly in how they handle things. But in the end they are pretty good.
>>
>>1200588
The Netherlands seems like a nice place to live/retire it's either that or Poland or Latvia. Thanks for giving me insight!
>>
>>1200495
>whether i should bother learning the language
I nearly speak it just from watching Dutch crime mysteries x6. I dare say it's an easy language, and that also everyone speaks English. If your goal is really to be bilingual elsewhere, it's considered the rule that 7 years of immersion is what it takes to be at the same level you are with your native language. If I was 25% something, not even that far removed? I'd of course enjoy immersion in part of my heritage like that. Move there permanently? Probably not, unless love life intervened or career opportunities. Europe in general seems to have a few countries kind of suffering from mass immigration. It might be a changed Europe in 10 years, so might even enjoy 1-2 years now versus later in your life.

Alright bros, I'm going on my honeymoon to Bali in less than 24 hours. We work so much we've done literally no planning for three weeks. Help me.
We have a map and we're gonna rent motorbikes in Denpasar. We don't know wtf we're doing or where to go.
Obviously we'd like to avoid the tourist traps. We're both /out/ists so hikes are on the agenda. Should we be scared of Dengue? We're just taking a tarp and wool blanket for camping.

Also Bali general if you like

I don't even know if dengue is in Bali, so can't help assess risk, but I do know that you'll be unhappy if you get it, or any of several tropical horrors.

There's no risk of dengue or malaria on bali.

>>1200476
Renting motorbikes is a neat idea, it's a great way to get around.

If you'd like to avoid tourist traps, avoid Denpasar, Kuta and the general south area of the coast.

The area around Ubud is touristic as fuck, but it's kinda worth it, as it's basically the cultural center of Bali.
I'd recommend going to see the rice fields around that area, if you're going past Jatiluwih, a really nice and serene place to visit is the Pura Luhur Batukaru temple.

I'd really recommend visiting the central mountainous area around Tamblingan and Buyan lakes if hiking is your thing, you've got nice waterfalls, jungle hikes, fun scenery, etc.
North of the lakes, towards Singaraya and Bubunan is also a neat area without almost any tourists to see some local villages, rice terraces and so on.

As for swimming, I'd say the north coast is better, the pacific is a bit calmer there than the indian ocean, although surfing is much better in the south.

Go for a dive or two, there's some really neat dive areas, like Menjangan for example and there's some to the north-east and so on. Or you could make a trip to the Gili islands.
>>
>>1200578
Dengue fever exists in Bali, i know from personal experience. Bring a mosquito net and repellant. Mount Batur is a nice hike especially if you start at 2 in the morning so that you get to the top in time for the sunrise then you can hike down to one of the outdoor bath resorts.

But be carefull when hiring a bike since the trafic is left lane and that the police is quite corrupt and may give you a ticket if all of your rental/license papers are not 100% in order.

As the guy above me said the Gili islands are really nice but cluttered with tourists, recomend going snorkling with a boat here, plenty of turtles.

I'm 5'7, got a 5 seater diesel, no obligations, a steady passive stipend(disability) and nothing worth staying for or keeping me here

I am aware that it is illegal but I plan on sticking to western and southern Europe anyway so I plan on using remote parking spaces nearby woodlands and campsites and other remote areas, I am a country kind of guy anyway, don't like people and have no qualms about defending myself if needed.

If the cops ask I will just say I was tired and thought it irresponsible to continue driving, at worst I will simply resume my way to the nearest province to find seclusion there.

To create privacy and dark at night I was thinking of something like pic related, along with 2 rolls of mosquito mesh for fresh air, a good sleeping bag, pillow and a sleep mask.
I will use showers and facilities for truckers along highways and failing that some alcohol wipes and other sanitizing products.

I do not intend to stay anywhere for more than 1 night if sleeping in the car.

Other than that I will be taking my mountainbike on a rack and plan on touring Europe's greatest mountainbiking attractions as well as chase the summer season.
I have some moderate savings which should be sufficient to book a plane ticket back in case of emergency.

Is this a horrible idea? If so, why?
If it isn't, what are some things to take into considerations, things that will improve quality of life and whatever else might come in handy?

Where are you from? Why not get some real camping gear? And in Nordic countries you're fully allowed to set up camp anywhere you want.
>>
Spain has loads of hippies living in informal communes. Nobody seems to give a fuck about them sleeping in cars or tents.

I'd consider swapping your car for a van and get some ghetto modifications to make it a simple camper van though. Then maybe head on further, to Morocco, or Senegal. Don't get beheaded on the way though.
>>
>>1200112
Why bother with camping gear when I have a car?
I've slept in the backseat before and I'm not too tall to be uncomfortable there.

>>1200114
A van is probably a good idea but fuel economics are important, I really despise hippies but good to know it isn't heavily enforced. I really just want to do this for the landscapes and forests and not having to deal with people at all.

I want to avoid Morocco as I have heard about ruthless and violent extortion practices at the border involving bribes and hash, even if you aren't smuggling, you are, as far as they are concerned.
