Hey guys I recently won a lot of cash and would like to repay this board by offering a free trip to Jordan to anyone who gets dubs.

The last language bread went stale, and I didn't copy it at all, so I guess here's a new one! Just post whatever links/torrents you have for learning any language. Contriboot!
I am looking to learn German myself, unfortunately don't want to pay $$ for premium services, nor do I want to lug around practice books while backpacking.
>>1253219
I bought a second hand Linguaphone set years ago from a previous expat to Germany, back in the days when they used cassette tapes.
I'd use a portable player and let it run while commuting - a lot of it is repeatedly hearing the same sounds and cadences and then repeating it back, even before knowing what they mean.
I also fully immersed myself in the society, refusing to speak English outside of work,
and I paid a teacher for one to one immersion training, no English just German.
I was otherwise very bad at learning languages, such as French, but I managed to pick up enough to do job interviews and in depth discussions, and occasional arguments, after 18 months.
I would also only listen to German radio, Star Trek episodes dubbed in German, and the children's program https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Sendung_mit_der_Maus - especially Käpt’n Blaubär's fisherman tales.
Even now that I'm living in Italy I'll listen to the German radio for international news.
Language teacher here.
The most important thing you can do to learn a language is to have as much contact with it as possible. Many people think that you need a teacher and that's absolutely true if you want to have good command of a language. But even the best teacher won't learn anything for you.
Try to read as many texts written by native speakers as possible. But most of all listen and watch.
Listening to the Deutsche Welle online stream as I'm typing this.
learning a second language if you're a native english speaker is a complete waste of time.
Ok... Going new York in 20 days.... What have i to expakt?... Nogos?....

Get a Time Out magazine and guide. Stay out of Brownsville and East New York. Get a Metrocard.

I found the people in Morocco to be charming as fuck to my surprise, even when I visited during Ramarama.
Maybe muzzies in the West are just on edge or something.
Travelling Pakistan, 20 years ago (oldfag).
Go to town called Darra. Gun-shops and drug-shops, only. Mujaheddin testfire their AKs in the main street. Very noisy place.
Both in Peshawar and Rawalpindi, strangers sometimes pick up the tab when I eat, just to show hospitality. Feels good.
Also the gayest place I've ever been to. Getting solicited by airport staff, barbers, hotel staff. If I would enjoy m2m buttseks, Pakistan would be heaven
if i leave my country via air, and left the second country via air and go to third country... can my homecountry know where i am? do countries share that info?
>>1254549
yes
Isn't your travel history available due to the scanning of your passport?
>>1254549
absolutely
How in the fuck to I cross it /trv?
Unless you're a smuggler, or want to run across smugglers, you don't.

American travelling to Finland at the end of the summer to see a friend. What should I expect?
>>1253970
This place sucks. Don't come here. There's nothing to see and nothing to do. IT'S HORRIBLE JUST STAB UR FRIEND IN THE BACK, CANCEL UR FLIGHTS AND GET UR MONEY BACK. ANYONE WHO INVITES U OVER TO FINLAND IS NOT UR FRIEND!!!
>>1253972
Oh, okay. Thanks!
>>1253972
Don't listen to the finn lad, I went there in January and had the best week of my life. It's probably depressing I'd you're Finnish and live there but if you're a foreigner only visiting it's an amazing experience. Helsinki is the comfiest city I've ever been too. Also stayed at a cabin in the woods with a smoke sauna and a lake, was wicked mate.
Most Europeans get pissed off at Americans who can't even be bothered to speak a few local words out of courtesy so take note.
I'm 24 years old and not long for this world, yet the vastness of the earth calls to me.
Where should I go?
I live in Southern Cali, and I'm poor as fuck, but I have a car.
>not long for this world
w-what's wrong anon
have you traveled before?
mexico,should be cheap i guess
>>1253551
i vaguely remember reading/ watching something where a guy was dying and he went to mexico and fell in love with a prostitute and regained his will to live so try that i guess
>>1253551
>Southern Cali
That area has a huge hard-on for old timey steam trains. You should check those out sometime. They're fun.
Ones in that area I know off the top of my head:
Disneyland Railroad
Ghost Town & Calico Railroad (Knott's)
Fillmore & Western Railroad (Fillmore)
Orange Empire Railroad Museum (Perris)
Poway–Midland Railroad (Poway)
Pacific Coast Railroad (Santa Margarita)
AT&SF 3751 in pic (gigantic steam locomotive that pulls excursion trains on main lines parallel to freeways at 70 mph)
What's /trv/'s general opinion on Hong Kong? I'd like to go there for one week this summer. I'm very interested in Asian futuristic big cities that give me dreamy vibes. I don't care about nightlife and meeting people. I've already been in Tokyo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and a small part of Bangkok. Would you suggest me another city or should I definitely go to Hong Kong? Is there a massive pollution like in Beijing over there?
Also, Hong Kong general if you wish.

Pollution yes, but not like Beijing. Be aware that summer is the rainy season. You'll get a couple of oppressively hot sunny days followed by ten days of rain. Watch the observatory for a week or so.

Anyone here get dual citizenship with Italy (as an American)? I recently found out that I qualify but I see there are a lot of both benefits (Euro passport!) and drawbacks (Italy goes to war and holds a draft...). anyone have experience with this?
>>1253345
Most countries that go to war hold a draft, usually. The real drawback is that I'm 100% sure that the national television will find a way to make you pay the annual tax, even if you live on the other side of the globe.
t. Italian
>>1253345
Also interested in this. I feel bad that I'd basically be using it to live in spain which I have more ancestry from and know the language better. Just don't qualify(they intermarried with only spanards but too many generations back feels bad). Edgy but I want to "decolonize" from America I fucking hate America most especially foreign policy I want nothing to do with it
>>1253349
How does it feel knowing you'll never be full Spanish xD knowing you didn't grow up like true Spaniards? Instead your steak being mostly a nationality you hate xD

Did you eat shawarma. Fuck one of the best meals I've ever had in my life was shawarma off of Nevsky Prospect
Hey all! Anyone wanna share their experiences in travel that weren't fun at all?
For me, it was my entire experience in Paris. Spent a week there and had the entire trip ruined by the people there. They were rude as fuck even when I tried my best to speak their language. The second that I spoke English, every person would immediately become disinterested in me and pretty much told me to fuck off. I never had that experience anywhere else and I definitely don't recommend others to go to such a pompous city!
This. Sorry you had a bad time, you shouldve ditch paris and visited the rest if france. The country side is beyond beautiful filled with the kindest people youll ever meet. Pairs on the other hand, is a nasty cesspool full of disgusting grossness. I bet it was beautiful and clean in its hayday but today its full of swindlers and people taking literal shits in the middle of the street. Pairs is basicly the india of europe
>not being able to enjoy Paris
It takes a special kind of person, i mean really. It's no sparkling wonderland for sure but somethings wrong if you can't find things to enjoy for a week in that city
>>1253133
Any time I go somewhere with people and they use the line "we will see when we get there about fun shit to do". I instantly know it's going to be a shit show

Hello people
Post all your tips about Vietnam here.
We will be traveling around Vietnam for two weeks in the middle of june. How is the weather around this time?
Planning on stopping in on:
Ho Chi Minh
Hanoi
Ha-Long Bay (maybe skip)
Sapa
Hoi An
Ending everything on Phu Quoc
Sounds decent?
>>1251989
>Phu Quoc
fuu cock LOL
If you're planning to drive in Vietnam, don't drive a stars and stripes paintjob motorcycle playing "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen on loop through a loudspeaker.

I have an insanely long commute and want to learn spanish as i drive.
Any super cool podcasts i can listen to on my phone?
How did you learn spanish?
I don't know about Spanish but Michel Thomas is a good place to start for audiobooks.

SpanishPod101
This company has a podcast series for many languages. [Language]pod101. com.
I've been learning Swedish using Swedishpod101, Duolingo, and various audio lessons on Youtube.
I try this from time to time; I can't seem to focus on anything educational first thing in the morning. Bob and Sherri win every time.
But I'll second Michel Thomas. Not only is it a great program, it's very human and dynamic, unlike, say, Pimsleur's talking robots which will put you to sleep behind the wheel.
