It's not about 'lurking moar', it's about understanding the level of exposure something gets, which is easily quantified. Just look at the archives. No really, search the terms "ass fang/ assfang" and "butt fang/ buttfang" and count how many times it occurs per week. There re 10,000s of posts on /a/ every week, is it really that hard to believe that a person can still never see / notice it being mentioned?

Yes, it is. Given enough time, it's nearly impossible that any single person wouldn't get a grip of how the people in a board behave or learn about some of the terms they use. That's the basic idea of lurking. Of fucking course people aren't going to keep talking about assfangs all day and night, because not only is there no point to doing so but those things are also relatively uncommon in anime or fanart.
There's nothing wrong with giving up and asking the people in the board what they call something as long as you've done your proper research and got no results, the issue lies in smugly going "ah I've been here since I was born and nobody ever used that word in the threads I visit, so it must be newfags forcing another meme".

Just lurking more isn't enough most of the time, you need to lurk efficiently as well.
