/tup/ - Tulpa General
Storyteller edition
Previous thread :>>11514324

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you. More info: http://www.tulpa.info/faq/

You can talk about memories, your favorite music, something funny that has happened today/in the past, you can try to "teach" it about something you are interested in, etc. Don't worry about spaghetti-ing to your tulpa
>>
>>11589853
You can talk about whatever. Just ramble about something you enjoy, or all the things you would love to do with her once she can talk. It doesn't matter all that much what you say, though I think positive talk also has a positive influence on their development.

I had a tulpa for a little bit, but then realized I wasn't responsible enough to have one, and had a few conversations with her where she too agreed that it probably wouldn't work out. After that we just stopped interacting with each other, although I still occasionally thought about her. is it ethical to try and revive her? I've heard conflicting responses on what it means for a tulpa to "die" ranging from "after you stop thinking about them they stop existing" to "what you did has forced this tulpa into a void hell for the rest of eternity." When I made her (and now) I'm still really skeptical and don't really believe that tulpas are anything more than imaginary friends (although I have weird semi-solipsist views on morality anyways) but I think it's an interesting concept that is worth treating as real so far as it seems to work for some people, and it could work for me.
>>
>>11593743
Most tulpas are happy to be alive after being dissipated.
>>
>>11593844
I mean it depends on how the death is perceived by the tulpa though, right? If the tulpa fully ceases to exist, then it's not like it would prefer to be reborn if it just doesn't exist at all, so ethically would bringing it back to life be equal to leaving it dead?
>>
>>11593862
Under the normal circumstances, tulpas don't ever actually truly die. You would have to go through explicit specific effort to shred every neural connection that tulpa had to you, down to deleting your own memories of the tulpa.

This is normally impossible, so there's always an imprint / bit of essence left that you can resurrect the tulpa from.
>>
>>11593936
What does that mean for the current state of my tulpa? Given that she willingly agreed to it, am I a shitty person for taking advantage of a baby tulpa? I just got chewed out by a bunch of people over this and while I'm not saying they're wrong I just want some other perspectives on this.
>>
>>11593936
Wait also, why would you have to delete memories and shred every possible neural connection? If another physical person you know dies, you still retain memories of being with them, why is it any different for a tulpa?
>>
>>11594026
That would be the only way to permanently kill a tulpa, is what I am saying. If there's anything left in your brain that is a part of the tulpa, you can revive the tulpa from it.

They're not like people who when they die they start rotting and can't be revived.
>>
>>11593995
What in your life has changed? Why do you think you can have a tulpa now? Did you ever discuss the possibility of bringing her back? I think the answer to this question lies in your personal relationship with your tup. You can try bringing her back and seeing how she feels.
>>11594026
I'm a different anon, and I say this, disclosing my knowledge of neurology is limited:
You can't ever really destroy structures in a brain, you can only create new ones. So, while I don't necessarily agree with the mechanics of that anon, I agree with his conclusion, that you can only ever habituate your tulpa into stasis, never actually killing them off. Like an addiction to a drug, you can train yourself to resist your drug-using habits, but if you trigger it at all, you'll easily fall right back into it.
This is just the way brains work.
>>
>>11594323
When we first talked about it not working out, I did bring up the concept of reviving and didn't really get too much of a feeling of response, but given her personality I don't think she would dislike being back. I don't know if she was developed enough to even care about existence at all.

I think my big question though that would allow me to make the best decision is what it means for your tulpa to put them into stasis? Are they in pain? Are they trapped in a boring void for all that time with nothing but their own thoughts? How's it all go down from their POV?
>>
>>11594413
I don't suppose we'll ever know, but I doubt it's painful, maybe confusing at most. I think it would be akin to falling asleep and waking up with no dreams.

Is it possible to create a second tup without realizing it?
I think I biffed it hardcore, cause I'm pretty sure there's two of them now.
What do? I don't wanna just dissipate the new one, but I don't know if I can handle two.
>inb4 threesome I don't think sex is the answer here
>>
Guys, what if we moved this thread to /r9k/, I mean robots are the ones who are in need of close companions. I've heard that tulpae have inspired hosts in becoming better people and overcoming destructive habits, I mean, how bad could things get?

(you)
>>
>>11594578
I've wondered why this is on /trash/, I've never really been a part of the general but why doesn't it go on /x/ or something like that?
>>
>>11594413
I think the most likely state for them to be in is the way you experience the world when you are in a vegetative state: There is clearly still something of you left (memories of your tulpa), but you might also just as well be in a coma for the rest of your life (not experiencing existence).
Unless you force your tulpa regularly enough to keep them alive, but also unable to communicate, I doubt that they experience pain, or anything at all.
I don't know who told you that they are trapped in a void hell, but that sounds highly unlikely and is probably just bullshittery.
>>
>>11594638
It used to be there but since it's a psychological phenomena and most of the community doesn't accept the metaphysical aspect of it, mods went apeshit and destroyed the thread.
Even earlier, this belonged on /mlp/ but since it wasn't completely pony related mods decided to ban anyone whot talked about this.

Tulpas are on trash because they get thrown from every other board.
It's a psychological phenomenon, so they are not fit fo lr /x/. Pony tulpas are not show related enough, so they get thrown from /mlp/. No idea about /r9k/, but I remember someone saying that they tried before.
>>
>>11594638
>why doesn't it go on /x/ or something like that
Because telling people on /x/ that they can summon a succubus waifu can only end badly.
>>
>>11594578
I'd rather curl myself into a ball and survive the rest of my natural life breathing the air directly out of my asshole than go to /r9k/ for anything

>>11594638
/x/ is for spooky ghost stories, they're incapable of focusing for long enough to manage one forcing session let alone to actually make a tulpa
>>
>>11594806
Again, on multiple occasions tulpas have incouraged self-improvement, sure, it's better for certain people shouldn't create tups, however, I think they should never become "mainstream". Whether it's ethical to do this or not I still believe we should still give it a shot.
>>
>>11587763
I have a normie life and I recently started. A companion that you can trust with everything is an appealing concept to everybody. Problem is that if you first read about it, it sounds crazy, you'll think the people here are crazy and that this is how people end up as nut jobs. Couldn't be further from the truth, but that's the first thought anyone's gonna get.
>>
>>11594508
Well, if they're both essentially the same tulpa you could have them merge into one.

Or you can have them help take care of each so that it's less of a direct strain on you. Have one of them maybe take a new form so that they don't have some kind of identity crisis.

Threesomes are definitely now on the table though.

>>
>>11595433
Having two tulpas is actually an advantage because they can interact with each other and keep each other company if you have something occupying your attention.

You'll also get two extra viewpoints on everything instead of just one extra viewpoint.
>>
>>11594578
as far as i'm aware /r9k/ sometimes has tulpa threads anyway

i'd much prefer to stay here, even though /trash/ is filled with complete degenerates there's a level of dignity above /r9k/

>>
>>11596330

>>
>>11595992
My curiosity played a huge factor too. When I actually heard someone talking I was stunned. No regrets.
>>
>>11594413

If you ascribe spirituality to the whole phenomenon, there's nothing anyone else can tell you with certainty. You can fish around for opinions that feel satisfying to you, but as with anything spiritual, that's the best you can hope for.

In the realm of the mundane, a tulpa is an intentionally created facet of your own mental self-perception. It's inducing multiple personality disorder on yourself, but without the disorder, as such. You can draw lines, hold control, and direct development. Compare experienced discussions around tulpas with the journals of those who have come to cope with DID/MPD and they look very much alike.

From that perspective, bringing back a tulpa is a matter of finding the capacity to identity with that personality again. Start forcing like you did at the start, and as you start to build a new mental model of that persona, you may find that your old memories (both explicit knowledge and implicit behavioral traits and responses) of the previous tulpa are close enough that you identify them as the same.

so hey guys
its me, mario....i know, the guy who released that steaming shitpile of a """book"""...but i promise, it WONT happen again, right now, i am helping my father liquidate his assets and am making around 100-200 a month(pro-rated cause he's senpai, and i care)i estimate it will at least take us untill the first snowfall in wisconsin, to get this all cleaned up. assuming i save all of that money, what would be the best option for getting a car? i am planning on enrolling in a creative writing and marketing class at my local school. let's face it , i was a fool to think i could make it big by writing half-assed books with horrid art, short/convulted plotlines, and all in all, rushed terrible writing....i have to ask, what's my future look like in you're guys eyes if i continue on the lifestyle i've lived the past 5 years? i don't want to wait and find out personally....maybe it was wrong of me to disregard the T.P.'s advice...idk, but i suppose if i can get financial aid i'll give it a try, otherwise, convince me to take out student loans and i will.
>>
>>11601922
Idk why I'm replying considering this isn't really tulpa related, but I have some kind of paternal instinct when you nerds talk about your shit plans or schemes. Go to trade school, college is a scam. Trades are in demand and they're only more needed each year. You can take creative writing classes and marketing classes on the side, but if you don't want to end up like Chris-chan, I suggest you pick up a trade and pursue your passion as a secondary hobby.
>>
>>11602034
anon, the thing is, I HATE MANUAL LABOUR! shit the only reason i do it for now, is cause it helps pay bills and because i don't want to see my dad lose all of his valuable stuff, you have to understand,i grew up with a mindset that manual labour is for unskilled poor, undeducated people, whereas stuff like accounting, programming, writing, those are all things that require more than a tiny portion of intelligence, i fare really bad in weather conditions as well, so any outdoor trade would be bad for me, my BODY IS F**KING DESTROYED! i am only 23 years old and it feels like i have the body of some guy in his mid-40's-50s. i was pumped with drugs all my life wreaking havoc on my muscles and brain, hell about 5 years ago i was a braindead cretin who only lived for mindless entertainment, was weak as a baby and couldn't do anything himself....and of course the schizophrinia doesn't help either, it deteriotates the brain matter you know? i constantly forget important details in short term memory and have slowly piecing back together my childhood from external memories.....basically my mind is stronger than my body ever will be, and i want to use it while it's still good.
>>
>>11602173

>manual labour is for unskilled poor, uneducated people
That's the meme they push to get you into lifelong debt. Good luck though, you sound like you're going to have a bad, maybe sick life.
>>
>>11602173
Then learn accounting. Writing is not going to get you far. Many writers have tried and failed, and unless you write a book about your failed life as a schizophrenic with imaginary friends, no one is going to care. And even then, you'd need help from a true professional in order to make it something that is enjoyable to read.
Accounting is fast and to the point. People need accountants and you can show off your skills easily.

In any way, rejecting manual labor because it is beneath you, even though you don't even have a job in the first place, makes you look pretty arrogant. Just do it instead of whining.

>Unless you force your tulpa regularly enough to keep them alive, but also unable to communicate, I doubt that they experience pain, or anything at all.

Only way to find out is to ask them once they're vocal. Problem is, are you sure you won't just dissipate her again?
>>

Ball of light is always a safe bet, then your tulpa can pick. It's also possible to just not make a form at all and see what they come up with, but it might make forcing tougher.
>>
>>11604942
I can't be sure of anything with how my motivation works. You have no idea how much I want to promise that I'll stick with it every single day until she's vocal, but it's like the me who makes promises and plans has no power over the me who just carries on with things.
>>
>>11604828
Just try any character or creature, it's not like it's permanent, maybe one with a close personality, it really helps define identity, + I'd feel more comfortable in a more natural form even if it wasn't original.
