Since there isn't a new strip yet to talk about, I wanted to get this off my mind.

I know the idea of an "Endtown Game" is old news and will basically never happen... but why the heck didn't someone just decide to make a mod for the game "Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead"? Seems much easier than making an entirely new game. Heck, the game is the closest thing to the comic currently.

In case anyone wants to waste some time checking it out. Here's a link to a playthrough still going on.

Random speculation: The Oracle isn't actually omniscient or precognitive, it's retrocognitive, containing a record of events in every version of Endtown before this one and using them to predict events in the current loop. This is why Doc going "off script" is worrying, because it's uncharted territory to which the Oracle's knowledge doesn't apply.

Additionally, it could well be Flask's final form, though I admit I'm basing that on nothing more than the association of both with Marx and the fact that water is one of the things you can store inside a Flask.

>>11550797
Cool stuff. I especially like the eyes on the lower left. Gives her a really psycho look.
>>
>>11552103
That's a pretty neat idea. I think "roguelike" is one of the more suitable genres for an Endtown game.

How moddable is it?

Whoever guessed "tooth marks", you get a cookie.

So, at least five types of teeth....

Putting aside that it's downright bizarre that Doc would have the training to spot that, it could point to some of the conspirators having gotten peckish against their own plans and then hurriedly dumped the evidence of the crime they were originally only pretending to have committed.

It could instead point again to the leg bones at least being refuse from pre-war preserved meat eaten by the general population, which would point to these being intentionally planted alongside the possibly-real-but-notably-singular skull. However, barring an underestimation of Doc's forensic skills, that would also suggest that the kidnappings aren't (or aren't merely) intended to implicate the wolves as a group, but rather spread paranoia about predators in general, or possibly just about cannibalism if there are "herbivore" tooth marks too. The latter two fit best with the idea that this is all part of an attempt to "refute" Jacob's philosophy, as they bring the whole of society into question instead of prompting a species-war.

If Doc is in on it and simply making shit up (which would explain his sudden skills as a forensic examiner), then the end result is the same - implication of the whole of society in potential bad behaviour. If that is the intent either way, then it'll be interesting to see if the new info can outrun the "wolves did it" meme, or if the conspirators are going to get a species-war when they really just wanted to make everyone doubt Jacob's philosophy. I suspect the latter.

If they did underestimate Doc, then the intent is likely to further implicate the wolves, in which case they're either not worried about a species-war, or think it'll aid their cause. This would gel better with the dog lady tut-tutting over the naughty naughty wolves, unless she's just on the wrong level to know the full plan.

And is this the first time we've seen Doc's eyes?
>>
>>11553901
Wolf, fox and dog are the only ones I can think would make those tooth marks. I wonder what the other 2 species are?

Also are we jumping back in the time line here?

>Putting aside that it's downright bizarre that Doc would have the training to spot that, it could point to some of the conspirators having gotten peckish against their own plans and then hurriedly dumped the evidence of the crime they were originally only pretending to have committed.
Bones and bodies go through a lot of changes in after death due to decay and environment. It could have to do with how water logged the bones are giving them a rough time line.

>It could instead point again to the leg bones at least being refuse from pre-war preserved meat
There would be a huge difference in 5-6 hour and 5-6 year old bones. Also the bone structure would be different.

Maybe he got basic forensic training at medschool. We should ask Aaron if that was a thing in Neitherland.
>>
>>11554946
I'm going have to break this one up.

>Also are we jumping back in the time line here?
I think we're just jumping in general. That last sequence may be some kind of record for brevity for this arc.

>Bones and bodies go through a lot of changes in after death due to decay and environment. It could have to do with how water logged the bones are giving them a rough time line.
I'd like to point out that bones are water-logged by default, being porous, made of cells, and coming as they do from the extremely wet environment of vertebrate bodies. As for decay, that's less of a problem for bones than it is for flesh, and even less of a problem for something stored by pickling, sterilised by being cooked, or kept in a largely sterile environment like Endtown seems to be.

But I was talking more about the fact that he can somehow identify not only the difference between tool marks and tooth marks (which requires specialist knowledge, especially when it appears to be scrape marks rather than distinct bites, as here), but the difference between at least five different animal-esque dentitions, right down to identifying that one of them was canine. That's not something you'd expect a doctor to be able to do, at all.
>>
>>11554946
>>11555216
>There would be a huge difference in 5-6 hour and 5-6 year old bones. Also the bone structure would be different.
For your first point, he said the remains were in the canal for no more than five or six hours, not that they were five or six hours old. It's very odd again that he could know that, seeing as up until now he's been a doctor and only a doctor. That's extremely specialised knowledge, like the tooth thing.

For your second point, you're referring to a potential difference between animal bones and human bones? I'll note that on the pigs, the bone structure seems to be most similar to their animal counterparts below the hip - they are unguligrade, and the feet look identical to feral pig feet. It seems possible to me that if you were going to mistake animal bones for animal-person bones, those would be the ones. And don't forget that pigs are famously similar to humans in many ways, biologically, enough to be used as test animals.

All moot if Doc's in on it and bullshitting, of course.

>>11555009
Nice to see more of this little bat.

>>11555179
That would be weird, and this also seems rather more than "basic". I also feel like that's something that would be unusual enough that it should be mentioned in the comic, but if you want to ask him, go ahead.
>>
>>11554946
>Wolf, fox and dog are the only ones I can think would make those tooth marks. I wonder what the other 2 species are?
And right after posting, I realise I never said anything about this: I think what he's saying is that it's not five species of canine, but that only one of the five species is canine.

So not Wolf, Fox, Dog, Dhole, Jackal, but Canine, Feline, and maybe even something like Bovine, Caprine and Avian, since everyone's still technically an omnivore.
>>
Cap this:

It turns out Velda is secretly working behind Jackrabbit's back to undermine his authority by sowing dissient, she is using wolves as perfect scapegoats to make sure more racial tensions arise and to push on Jackrabbit more. If anything she is seen more and more in places where there is geniune concern about food shortages and wolves. And we have seen that all and all see seems to fit into "Quiet evil bitch" stereotype... just like Sarah.

Velda wants power to herself and Jackrabbit is a great pawn.
>>
>>11555288
That's one of the leading theories. She's also a weaselly weasel, and real world weasels eat rabbits. I'm pretty sure people have been saying she's going to stab Jackrabbit in the back for as long as we've been discussing Jacob on 4chan, actually. It seems almost a given, doesn't it?

Perhaps she's taking advantage of the people who want Jackrabbit out for arguably noble reasons, using them to do it. The dog lady could be one of these, and her dismissal of Cooper as a "Salesman" in Velda's presence might have been because she herself doesn't entirely trust Velda despite perhaps taking delivery of government stationary from her.
>>
Here's a thought: If this is all part of the same thing and totally faked (Doc in on it, bones from animals plus one skull from the morgue, etc), and they don't intend to actually kill anyone (bulletins, not bullets) how are they going to deal with the eventual need to release the pigs?

Option 1: Keep them sedated, or in a place/situation where they never see their captors (bags over heads), then transfer them when the time is right to a government facility (with Velda or the rats' help?) and use them to frame Jacob and co (with Velda held up as the heroic whistle-blower who enabled them to be rescued in the nick of time).

Option 2: Have them kept prisoner by a willing fall guy or guys who will be "discovered", "captured", "treated", cleared as sane and pardoned by the new government after the soft revolution. Or just someone who is using a costume and an assumed identity whenever the pigs see them, and who is "killed" or "disappears" in the struggle and can then fade into the background of Endtown society afterwards.

Option 3: Simply tell the pigs why you're doing this, beg their forgiveness, tell them that their families are safe, and that what you're doing is all to ensure that they always will be, along with all the other prey species, and that after this is over, wolves will never be a problem again (this is why they've selected for phone harassment pigs that have been targeted for bullying by wolves...). Request that they play along when the time comes, maybe even help you out right now. Some may still resist, or freak out and try to escape, in which case they may become complications and regretfully need to be liquidated if the people running the show are that zealous. But hey, free prop skull...

Another thought: The dog lady seems eerily familiar. Was she perhaps one of Allgood's associates?

I don't think Aaron is gonna go into detail on how they fuck. But hey. it's cool... People have asked him way worse stuff before. I don't think there could have been a bad answer to that one. It's like asking if most Endtowners sleep nude due to the lack of clothes: he either says yes or he specifies which don't, either way we get a nice mental picture.

Which reminds me that we should ask if Heather was the only seamstress and if she had the only laundry place. Also, why they don't have better equipment for the firefighters. And how do porcupines and hedgehogs manage to use anything.

There are so many questions when you think about it...
>>
>>11563025
>I don't think there could have been a bad answer to that one.

I do agree with you, but "Allie goes commando" was maybe the most improbable answer, yet Aaron rolled with it. Either way, she looks fantastic with and without.
>>
>>11563126
>"Allie goes commando" was maybe the most improbable answer
It was the most probable answer because you could actually see it in the comic, it just didn't get any focus.
>>
>>11563176

You would get a couple of nice shots of her tail, but that's about it, Aaron also mentioned she would tie a piece of cloth on each leg that would look like a hammock when going topside, we didn't get a peek at that.
>>
>>11563230
Well, consider that he can't actually show things like that unless he hosts the comic in his own site or his publishers are okay with it.

At one point when Aaron got sick, KC immediately put a "secret stash" of pics only he and Aaron had seen up for auction on FA.

Must have been some kind of rebuke or second thoughts, because he took it down super quick by deleting the entire post.

My guess is that either it would have exposed both of their feelings on certain characters, or it contained fetish stuff that Aaron didn't want public.

>>
>>11564535
What makes you think that was KC? Are you talking about another post?
>>
>>11564587
People around here realized a while back that KC was using a very uncommon and small-name java-based image downloader on one of his devices that left all the images it downloaded tagged with the order in which they occurred in the thread. If you go back through the old /co/ threads you occasionally see posts with images tagged [three digit number]_[usual 4chan image code], indicating that it's KC posting from that particular device, reposting an image he saved, usually as a reaction image.

This isn't a guess, sometimes he was openly posting as himself while using these tagged images, and he actually gushed about said image downloader in one of his posts.

The only particular things I noticed about his posts were his scanner(?) filenames and his unusual line breaks. Never knew about the dowloader.

Turns out he was guilty of some seriously fucked up behavior if you go back and look through the old threads - dropping spoilers as theories and samefagging support for them, for instance, and that's not the worst of it. There's an entire post on it in the archives. I'd find it but Desuarchive's search is down right now.

To be honest, I don't care much. There would've been less drama more of us ignored people like him.
>>
>>11565283
That's reasonable. And maybe you're right, though it did look like he was samefagging at least some of the drama all on his lonesome, too.

I e-mailed Aaron (not to steal any thunder from the anon that asked him earlier) and here's what I got back.

I'm glad the curfew has been lifted. I hope life is getting somewhere near normal where you are.
>We don't know what's going to happen just yet. The mayor is talking about a tax hike to cope with what FEMA isn't going to handle. The narrative is clearly "evolving".

What color is Grout, and are the Endtown police uniforms blue (and roughly what shade) or are they the drab green as the Endtown security?
>Endtown police uniforms are a dark blue.

and for my final color question I drew the wolf girl wearing the coat in recent strips for giggles. Is the color scheme the same or or does she have a similar one.

I've got a couple questions:
The dog in Wednesdays comic seems like she's going to be important. Does she have a name? She looks like a yellow lab; is she, and what color is her hair?
>Audrey Austin. She's some kind of dog and her hair color is auburn.

>>11585274
I always figured it was a light to medium gray with a white nose but I figured I could ask.
With no definitive color scheme in mind that gives me a lot of free reign.

I forgot to ask him if the wolf girl was important enough to have a name and if Walt was loosely inspired by the Hamm's bear, but I forgot to ask. There's always next time.

Thanks! Will be painting it today.
There are the Lambent (pic related, although it's several years old) which I should update. They were meant to be subterranean, with bio-luminescent eyes and leathery skin.
>>
>>11589001
Are the Lambent less "known" to the Rodani (or even other Netrans) than the other subspecies, living underground?

Do these adaptations all come from some inherent biological flexibility, or were they engineered? If the former, are Netrans prone to odd mutations?
>>
>>11589243
Yeah, the lambent are the least known, in fact they live in a continent separate from the current theater of conflict. A few get picked up by the Union during expeditions, but it is difficult to get them to talk about their culture to outsiders.

A bit of both; their species was engineered to be adaptive from the outset for all of Netra's biomes. So yeah, unusual mutations do occur. Not to draw too much comparison to Out of Placers, but some Netrans do end up with erratic mutations like I recall yinglets having in a reference Val drew up. But not with quite the same sort of catastrophic results.
>>
>>11589401

Here we go. Get ready for "Twelve Angry Furries", and let's hope it doesn't go on for too long.

Potential manipulation to pull Walt even further into this whole thing?
>>
>>11602705
Update is unusually early today.
>>
>>11603132
It's generally earlier on Mondays and gets later as the week goes on, and it's been much earlier ever since his last illness hiatus, but you're right, this is super early. Guess he must have had more time to work on it now that the flood stuff is calming down.
>>
>>11603255
It's also kind of filler. Simply having him show up would've had the same effect unless we're gonna spend the rest of the week with Walt and Portia discussing this.

I've said it before and I have to say it again... Aaron doesn't know what he's doing with this chapter and is buying time using strips like these until he can think of a good way to move the story forward. I'm prepared to be disappointed by the end because this aimlessness is never a good sign, we got that feeling at some point during the ship arc and we all know how that went.
>>
>>11603660
I remember having a distinct feeling of "This arc isn't sure what it wants to be about" several times.
>>
>>
>>11603660
>unless we're gonna spend the rest of the week with Walt and Portia discussing this.
Thinking about it, this could be the case since he's trailing off at the end there.

This week might be a discussion of whether or not and how much Walt should "pad" his testimony to help Heather. If so, be prepared for Portia to be the one pushing for it due to her own anti-wolf biases and hysteria (bias and hysteria being the other themes of the arc alongside the ever-rehashed tribalism theme, I suspect).

I wonder if Portia knows anything about Heather, or at least Jolene or Terry?
>>
>>11606847
Well, Portia was explicitly avoiding entering a state where she'd have to have her waistline taken out, but she might have known Joelene or Terry.

Is that speciesist, to wonder if pigs knew each other just because they were pigs? Then again, there might have been some kind of porker support group they all went to, considering the body image issues it seems that some of them had/have... maybe that was even how they were originally targeted for harassment, if one of the conspirators got a hold of the membership list, or even set the group up to begin with...
